Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of liver transplantation (LT) and liver resection (LR) for hepatocellularcarcinoma (HCC) patients with portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) and to investigate risk factors affecting prognosis. Materials and Methods: A total of 94 HCC patients with PVTT type I (segmental PVTT) and PVTT type II (lobar PVTT) were involvedand divided into LR (n=47) and LT groups (n=47). Recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were comparedbefore and after inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW). Prognostic factors for RFS and OS were explored. Results: Two treatment groups were well-balanced using IPTW. In the entire cohort, LT provided a better prognosis than LR. Among patients with PVTT type I, RFS was better with LT (p=0.039); OS was not different significantly between LT and LR(p=0.093). In subgroup analysis of PVTT type I patients with α-fetoprotein (AFP) levels >200 ng/mL, LT elicited significantly longermedian RFS (18.0 months vs. 2.1 months, p=0.022) and relatively longer median OS time (23.6 months vs. 9.8 months, p=0.065). Among patients with PVTT type II, no significant differences in RFS and OS were found between LT and LR (p=0.115 and 0.335,respectively). Multivariate analyses showed treatment allocation (LR), tumor size (>5 cm), AFP and aspartate aminotransferase(AST) levels to be risk factors of RFS and treatment allocation (LR), AFP and AST as risk factors for OS. Conclusion: LT appeared to afford a better prognosis for HCC with PVTT type I than LR, especially in patients with AFP levels>200 ng/mL.
Heat transfer scaling analysis of the single-phase natural circulation flow system
Yu, Xin-Guo,Choi, Ki-Yong Elsevier 2017 Applied thermal engineering Vol.126 No.-

Abstract

In this study, the heating power in the heat source or the core decay power is proposed as the reference parameter for the scaling analyses. From the scaling analyses assuming quasi-steady state flow, three system-level dimensionless numbers for the thermal heat transfer were obtained: the dimensionless power rate number, the dimensionless HX heat transfer number, and the dimensionless heat loss number. Based on the three local heat transfer processes, the dimensionless HX heat transfer number is further broken down into three dimensionless local heat transfer numbers: the dimensionless HX tube internal convective heat transfer number, the dimensionless HX tube conductive heat transfer number, and the dimensionless HX tube external convective heat transfer number, with each representing local heat transfer similarity. Analogically, three dimensionless local heat loss numbers were also derived. With the obtained dimensionless numbers, the scaling criteria for exact HX heat transfer similarity were derived. It was found the tube inner diameter should be scaled down in terms of the tube length scaling ratio for exact heat transfer similarity. In addition, three sets of scaling criteria for a full-pressure model, the new scaling criteria (general), the new scaling criteria (ideal), and the new scaling criteria (practical), were proposed.

Highlights

A set of system-level and local heat transfer similarity numbers were proposed.

The proposed dimensionless numbers can be applied to analyze the heat transfer similarity.

Three set of scaling criteria for the design of reduced-size thermal systems were proposed.

The tube inner diameter was found to be related to the length scaling ratio by d iR = l ¯ R 0.75 .

Stereo Matching Based on Least Square
Yu Haihao,Fang Yurun,Kong Leilei,Wang Xin 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Multimedia and Ubiquitous Vol.10 No.2
Least Square method is widely adopted in stereo matching owing to it high precision, but the fact that transformation parameters is obtained by solving linear equations leads to the instability of its solutions and the process of matching oscillates and decreases convergence speed. To overcome this disadvantage, improve convergence speed and keep high precision, this paper provides gradient method to resolve stereo matching. The experiments show that the algorithm is valid and practical.

Heterodermia squamulosa (Degel.) W.L. Culb. was found in the mountain of Gariwang, Gangwon province, in 2008. It is characterized by numerous squamules along the margin, decorticate and white lower surface, rhizines along the margin, black and densely squarrosely branched, usually forming a dense mat under the thallus. Apothecia margins densely squamulose, ascospores 12~15 × 25~30 ㎛. Atranorin and zeorin contained in thallus. This is the first record of this species in South Korea.
Notes : Cladonia peziziformis (Lichenized Ascomycota, Cladoniaceae) New to Korea
Xin Yu Wang,Hyun Hur,You Mi Lee,Funny Bae,Young Jin Koh,Jae Seoun Hur The Korean Society of Mycology 2008 Mycobiology Vol.36 No.3
Cladonia peziziformis (With.) J.R. Laundon was collected from Baega mountain, Jeonnam Province, Korea in 2008. It is characterized by short and slender podetia with verruculose surface, split along the sides. Apothecia large, pale brown, always growing on the top of the podetia. Primary squamules shell-like, thick, and convex. Fumarprotocetraric acid contained in thallus. This is the first record of this species in Korea.

Background: This study was performed to analyze the prognostic implications of pretreatment or preoperative thrombocytosis in women with gynecologic malignancies. Material and Methods: We surveyed 2 medical databases, PubMed and EMBASE, to identified all relevant studies. A total of 14 (n=3,490) that evaluated the link between thrombocytosis and 5-year survival were included. REVMAN version 5.1 was used for our analysis and publication bias was evaluated using the Begg's funnel plot and tested by STATA 11.0. Risk ratios (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) generated by the random effect model were used to assess the strength of any association. Results: 709(20.3%) of the 3,490 patients exhibited thrombocytosis (platelet counts > $400{\times}10^9/L$) at primary diagnosis, and their mortality was 1.62-fold higher compared with the others (RR=1.62, 95%CI=[1.28-2.05], p<0.0001). Thrombocytosis failed to have a stronger effect on the survival of advanced patients of stages III to IV in our study (n=478, RR=1.29, 95% CI=[1.13-1.48], p=0.0003), nor in women with cervical cancer in stage IB (n=1371, RR=1.73, 95% CI=[1.71-2.58], p=0.007). In addition, when adjusted for different carcinoma, it was associated with worse prognosis for all except the ones with vulvar cancer (n=201, RR=0.43, 95% CI=[0.14-1.29], p=0.13). Conclusions: This meta-analysis indicated that thrombocytosis might be associated with a worse prognosis for patients with gynecologic malignancies but without specificity or sensitivity for the ones in advanced stage. When adjusted for different gynecologic malignancies, it showed a significant effect on survival of all except vulvar cancers.
