<P><B>Introduction</B></P><P>Estrogen receptor (ER) β is predicted to play an important role in prevention of breast cancer development and metastasis. We have shown previously that ERβ inhibits hypoxia inducible factor (HIF)-1α mediated transcription, but the mechanism by which ERβ works to exert this effect is not understood.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) was measured in conditioned medium by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, luciferase assays and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assays were used to ascertain the implication of ERβ on HIF-1 function.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>In this study, we found that the inhibition of HIF-1 activity by ERβ expression was correlated with ERβ's ability to degrade aryl hydrocarbon receptor nuclear translocator (ARNT) via ubiquitination processes leading to the reduction of active HIF-1α/ARNT complexes. HIF-1 repression by ERβ was rescued by overexpression of ARNT as examined by hypoxia-responsive element (HRE)-driven luciferase assays. We show further that ERβ attenuated the hypoxic induction of VEGF mRNA by directly decreasing HIF-1α binding to the VEGF gene promoter.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>These results show that ERβ suppresses HIF-1α-mediated transcription via ARNT down-regulation, which may account for the tumour suppressive function of ERβ.</P>

<P>Mammalian MST2 kinase plays an important role in cell proliferation, survival, and apoptosis. In search of interacting proteins of MST2, we found that estrogen receptor alpha (ER alpha) co-immunoprecipitates with MST2 and its adaptor protein human Salvador (hSAV). Using reporter assays, we observed that overexpression of MST2 and hSAV leads to ligand-independent activation of ER alpha in human breast cancer MCF-7 cells, which was attenuated by the knockdown of hSAV. Furthermore, using truncated mutants of hSAV, we observed that the C terminus of hSAV is necessary and sufficient for the induction of ER alpha transactivation. The expression of hSAV and MST2 results in the phosphorylation of ER alpha at serine residues 118 and 167 and represses ER alpha expression. We then investigated the incidence of MST2 and ER alpha expression with other tumor biomarkers using commercially available tissue microarrays. Among 40 breast cancer samples analyzed, 60% (24 out of 40) expressed MST2. Nineteen among the 40 cases were MST2-positive and ER alpha-negative, implying a correlation between expressions of MST2 with loss of ER alpha in breast tumor samples. This study suggests that MST and hSAV act as novel co-regulators of ER alpha and may play an important role in breast cancer pathogenesis.</P>
Diagonally-reinforced Lane Detection Scheme for High-performance Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

In this paper, several optimizations are proposed to enhance the quality of lane detection algorithms in automotive applications. Considering the diagonal directions of lanes, the proposed limited Hough transform newly introduces image-splitting and angle-limiting schemes that relax the number of possible angles at the line voting process. In addition, unnecessary edges along the horizontal and vertical directions are pre-defined and removed during the edge detection procedures, increasing the detecting accuracy remarkably. Simulation results shows that the proposed lane recognition algorithm achieves an accuracy of more than 90% and a computing speed of 92 frame/sec, which are superior to the results from the previous algorithms.

문화예술교육사 양성과정에 대한 음악대학 학생들의 인식연구

본 연구는 음악대학 재학생들을 대상으로 문화예술교육사 양성과정에 대한 학생들의 인식을 조사하였다. 이를 위해 서울과 경기도에 위치한 음악대학 중 문화예술교육사 양성과정 프로그램을 운영하고 있는 10곳의 음악대학 재학생들에게 설문이 링크된 모바일 문자와 SNS를 이용하여 실시하였다. 총 611명이 연구에 참여하였으며, 불성실한 36명의 응답을 제외한 575명의 응답을 분석하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 음악대학 내에 문화예술교육사 양성과정이 설치되어 있음에도 불구하고 많은 수의 학생들이(N=209, 36.35%) 문화예술교육사에 대해 인식하지 못하고 있었다. 둘째, 학생들은 문화예술교육사 자격증 취득을 위한 직무역량 다섯 과목 수가 적당하다고 인식하고 있었다. 셋째, 학생들은 문화예술교육사 양성과정 프로그램에 대해 긍정적으로 인식하고 있었다. 특히 문화예술교육사 자격증의 필요성에 대해 매우 긍정적으로 인식하고 있었으며(M=3.888, SD=0.837), 자격증 이수 의지에 대해서는 다소 낮은 긍정적 인식을 나타내었다(M=3.137, SD=1.019). 또한 성별, 전공, 학년, 이수 과목 수에 따라 전공실기 발달에 도움, 자격증의 필요성, 자격증 이수 의지, 졸업 후 취직 연관성, 문화예술교육사 교과목 추천에 대하여 유의미한 인식의 차이를 나타내었다. 본 연구는 음악대학 내 문화예술교육사 양성과정에 대한 학생들의 인식을 연구한 기초 자료로서 그 의의를 둔다. This study investigated the perceptions of university music majors about the Korean government’s Arts & Culture Education Instructor (ACEI) certification program designed to expand opportunities for future professional musicians as well as arts and culture education instructors. A link to access the study’s survey online through Google Form was distributed to music majors through music departments at universities in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do that had been approved to provide the courses for ACEI certification. Surveys were completed from June through August 2017. There were 611 participants in this study; 36 were eliminated due to incomplete responses, so that the responses of 575 participants were analyzed.

Purpose: The biggest concern related to ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is local recurrence and recurrence patterns. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between clinicopathological factors and relapse in patients treated with DCIS. Methods: We reviewed medical records of 104 patients who were diagnosed as DCIS between January 1999 and December 2015 at a single institute. We compared and analyzed clinicopathological factors such as age at diagnosis, preoperative lesions on ultrasonography, preoperative tumor markers, operation methods in the breast, histological grade, nuclear grade, resection margin, comedonecrosis, estrogen receptor/progesterone receptor expression, human epidermal factor receptor 2/neu expression, Ki-67, postoperative implementation of adjuvant hormonal therapy, and radiotherapy by dividing them into recurrent and non-recurrent groups. Results: Seventeen patients (16.3%) of 104 patients relapsed in the ipsilateral or contralateral breast. The median follow-up period of non-relapsed group was 4.9 years (range, 0.5–19.15) and the median follow-up period of relapsed group was 3.5 years (range, 1.4–14.13). Clinicopathological factors that were significantly related to relapse were nuclear grade (p=0.022) and Ki-67 (p=0.025) based on the results of chi-square or Fisher’s exact analysis. In multivariate analysis using logistic regression, Ki-67 (p=0.021) was significantly associated with DCIS relapse. Conclusion: This study suggested that the higher Ki-67 over 14% was strongly associated with DCIS relapse.

최근, 교육적 측면에서 자율적 사고를 가능하게 해주는 STEAM 교육이 각광받고 있다. STEAM은 융합형 인재를 양성하는 것을 목표로 한다. 하지만 STEAM 교육에 맞는 장비를 갖추는데 있어서 많은 비용을 투자해야 한다. 이러한 이유로 교육 현장에 적용이 어려운 실태이다. 이를 해결하는 방법 중 하나로 적은 비용으로 같은 교육 목적을 달성할 수 있는 피지컬 컴퓨팅을 생각할 수 있다. 요즈음 들어 많이 사용되고 있는 아두이노는 대표적인 피지컬 컴퓨팅 중 하나이다. 아두이노를 이용한 실험에서는 교육 목적을 달성할 정도의 정밀한 데이터를 측정할 수 있으며, 실험을 위한 구성도 간편하다. 실험 주제와 상황에 맞게 센서와 다양한 기기를 직접 연결하여 다양한 실험을 진행할 수 있는 장점도 있다. 본 연구에서는 고등학교 학생들의 자율적인 사고를 확장시킬 수 있는 STEAM 교육의 효과를 확인하기 위하여 경사면에서 물체의 마찰력에 따른 온도변화와 이동거리 및 시간을 측정하는 실험을 구성하였다. 경사면의 각도와 물체의 무게를 달리하여 센서 데이터를 측정하는 실험이다. 측정된 센서 데이터의 시각화를 지원하기 위하여 데이터 로깅 환경에서 어플리케이션에 전송이 될 수 있도록 구성하였다. 우리는 피지컬 컴퓨팅을 이용하여 과학 실험을 진행할 수 있음을 확인하였으며, 공학적 전문지식에 대해서도 학습할 수 있었다.
