<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Strontium titanate (SrTiO<SUB>3</SUB>) powder has been prepared through a liquid-phase precursor (LPP) method involving strontium (Sr) acetate and different types of titanium (Ti) raw materials; the powders were synthesized using two kinds of lactate complex and TiCl<SUB>3</SUB>. The effects from the addition of the Ti raw materials to the nanostructure and the resultant synthetic efficiency were investigated in this work for the development of nano-sized particles and a low firing temperature. The morphology and size of the SrTiO<SUB>3</SUB> nanopowders were controlled by adjusting the Sr- and Ti-precursor concentrations and the selection of the type of Ti raw material. The most-effective raw material was selected and then used as the basis for the attainment of the results in accordance with the ratio. Using X-ray diffraction (XRD), phase analyses of the samples calcined at different temperatures and compositions were performed. SEM was used for the characterization of the morphologies of the raw materials and reaction products, and they varied from ~25nm to ~50nm.</P>
Effect of Bi(Mg1/2Ti1/2)O3 Addition on the Electrical Properties of Si-Mn Modified on SrTiO3

Single-Crystalline Strontium titanate (SrTiO3) has been widely used in many fields such as catalyst, semiconductors and dielectrics. SrTiO3 is a typical perovskite-type oxide, the physical properties of which strongly depend on its chemical composition, structure, shape, size, and crystallinity. In this work, the effects of Bi(Mg1/2Ti1/2)O3 addition on the nanostructure and the dielectric properties of Si-Mn modified SrTiO3 were investigated to develop nano-sized particles and lowtemperature- fired SrTiO3-based ceramics with stable temperature characteristics. The dielectric constant of SrTiO3-Bi(Mg1/2Ti1/2)O3 was found to range from 900 to 1200 at 1 kHz for samples sintered at 1200 ◦ C. This new composition, SrTiO3-Bi(Mg1/2Ti1/2)O3, can be applied as a nano-sized dielectric materials in various fields.

The present study purposed to examine the effects of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, self-stretching and functional massage on the recovery of muscle contraction force for muscle fatigue caused by sustained isotonic contraction. The subjects of this study were 45 healthy students. They were divided into transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation group(n=15), self-stretching group(n=15) and functional massage group(n=15), and using Primus RS. We observed the pattern of changes in maximal voluntary isometric contraction force(MVIC) after causing muscle fatigue in quadriceps femoris muscle through sustained isotonic contraction. Maximal voluntary isometric contraction force(MVIC) were greatly increased after transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, self-stretching and functional massage. In the comparison of recovery rate of muscle contraction force for muscle fatigue caused by sustained isotonic contraction among the treatment groups, it did not show any significant differences. However, it showed that each treatment may be effective in recovery of muscle fatigue caused by sustained isotonic contraction.
MD-2 as the Target of Nonlipid Chalcone in the Inhibition of Endotoxin LPS-Induced TLR4 Activity.

<P>Myeloid differentiation 2 (MD-2) recognizes endotoxin lipopolysaccharide (LPS), which is required for Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) activity. MD-2 represents a more attractive therapeutic target than TLR4 for intervention in severe inflammatory disorders due to microbial infection. Here, we suggest MD-2 as a molecular target of nonlipid chalcone in the inhibition of LPS-induced cellular inflammation. A chalcone derivative, 2',4-dihydroxy-6'-isopentyloxychalcone (JSH) competitively displaced LPS from MD-2, and was fitted into the ligand-binding site on the crystal structure of MD-2 under the most energetically favorable simulation. JSH nullified TLR4 activation mechanism and sequentially inhibited nuclear factor-관B (NF-관B) activation that involves the phosphorylation and degradation of inhibitory 관Bs and the nuclear import and transcriptional activity of NF-관B in LPS-activated macrophages. Moreover, JSH suppressed NF-관B-target inflammatory genes such as inducible nitric oxide synthase, cyclooxygenase-2, interleukin-1관 (IL-1관) and IL-6. Taken together, this study assigns the chalcone structure as an LPS antagonist binding to MD-2 with therapeutic potential against inflammatory conditions.</P>

Ubiquitous technologies have become indispensable in our everyday life as IT devices transform into ever smaller and seamlessly networked organisms. The main characteristics of this evolution in Korea is its government initiative in a series of U-ECO city projects. This paper introduces a urban monitoring data collection system in this context. This kind of system should be able to reflect various stakeholders' viewpoints while it collects and visualize monitoring data from ubiquitous sensor networks. Therefore it requires extensive studies in current research trends of HCI and u-City research works as well. The research is on the stage of designing system architecture and proposing a prototype system. It will incorporate the current research framework of U-ECO city R&D project, and provide an important platform in the U-ECO city development.
Clinical Characteristics of Primary Peritoneal Carcinoma

Purpose: The goal of this study was to determine the clinical and therapeutic characteristics of women with a primary peritoneal carcinoma (PPC).Materials and Methods: A retrospective clinical study was conducted to evaluate 22 women diagnosed with a PPC from 1993 to 2007 at the Hospitals of The Catholic University of Korea. Diagnoses were based on the Gynecologic Oncology Group criteria and clinical data. We collected patient clinicopathological data including age, presenting symptoms, pretreatment CA-125 values (U/ml), clinical stage (based on the FIGO stage), performance status (using the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group scale), whether cytoreductive surgery was optimal or not, types of chemotherapy and response to treatment. We evaluated the clinical characteristics and response to treatment, time to treatment failure and overall survival.Results: The median overall survival of all patients was 23.1 months. The estimated 3-year survival rate was 29% (SE, 13%). The response rate to first-line platinum-based chemotherapy was 79% and the median time to treatment failure was 9.9 months (95% confidence interval, 1.38~18.4 months). By univariate and multivariate analysis, performance status was the only significant factor associated with overall survival (p〈0.05).Conclusion: We evaluated the clinical characteristics and treatment response of patients with a primary peritoneal carcinoma. Our results showed that it is possible to achieve long-term survival in patients with PPC. A further clinical study is to need to establish clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes.
