<P>This paper proposes a class-E power amplifier (PA) with double-resonance circuit to reduce voltage stress on CMOS transistors. The voltage waveform applied to the CMOS transistor is shaped by harmonic control and the transistors are relieved from breakdowns. A negative capacitance is also implemented for efficiency enhancement, compensating for surplus capacitance from parasitic components on the drain node. Thus, nominal class-E operation is restored and high efficiency is achieved. We present a cascode differential class-E RF PA that is fabricated using a 0.13-¿ m CMOS technology that delivers 31.5-dBm output power with 54% drain efficiency and 51% power-added efficiency at 1.8 GHz.</P>

To engineer tissue-like structures, cells are required to organize themselves into three-dimensional networks that mimic the native tissue micro-architecture. Here, we present agarose-based multi-well platform incorporated with electrical stimulation to build skeletal muscle-like tissues in a facile and highly reproducible fashion. Electrical stimulation of C2C12 cells encapsulated in collagen/matrigel hydrogels facilitated the formation 3D muscle tissues. Consequently, we confirmed the transcriptional upregulations of myogenic related genes in the electrical stimulation group compared to non-stimulated control group in our multi-well 3D culture platform. Given the robust fabrication, engineered muscle tissues in multi-well platform may find their use in high-throughput biological studies drug screenings.

<P>Secretory proteins play important roles in the cross-talk of individual functional units, including cells. Since secretory proteins are essential for signal transduction, they are closely related with disease development, including metabolic and neural diseases. In metabolic diseases, adipokines, myokines, and hepatokines are secreted from respective organs under specific environmental conditions, and play roles in glucose homeostasis, angiogenesis, and inflammation. In neural diseases, astrocytes and microglia cells secrete cytokines and chemokines that play roles in neurotoxic and neuroprotective responses. Mass spectrometry-based secretome profiling is a powerful strategy to identify and characterize secretory proteins. This strategy involves stepwise processes such as the collection of conditioned medium (CM) containing secretome proteins and concentration of the CM, peptide preparation, mass analysis, database search, and filtering of secretory proteins; each step requires certain conditions to obtain reliable results. Proteomic analysis of extracellular vesicles has become a new research focus for understanding the additional extracellular functions of intracellular proteins. Here, we provide a review of the insights obtained from secretome analyses with regard to disease mechanisms, and highlight the future prospects of this technology. Continued research in this field is expected to provide valuable information on cell-to-cell communication and uncover new pathological mechanisms.</P>
Joint Optimization of Radio Resources for Uplink Multihoming Networks

<P>Multihoming networks in which users with multiple air interfaces can simultaneously transmit data traffic over multiple radio access technologies have greatly garnered attention as a promising solution to address the explosive growth in mobile data traffic. In this paper, we propose joint resource allocation algorithms for uplink multihoming networks. Unlike existing solutions in the literature, the proposed algorithms reflect two conflicting factors (i.e., throughput and monetary cost) affecting user’s satisfaction level with respect to allocated radio resources in the process of resource allocation. Depending on the different assumptions of subchannel allocation, different joint resource allocation algorithms are developed where the main difference between the algorithms is whether they can be implemented in a distributed manner or not. Also, a diverse set of user’s service types is taken into consideration, which makes the proposed algorithms suitable for an integrated service network. Numerical results demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithms.</P>

This paper describes a large capacity wavelength-division output buffer for photonic ATM switch. Generally, wavelength-division photonic ATM switches require a WDM output buffer, Several kinds of buffer structure have been proposed. But all of the output buffers so far are limited in terms of control, feasaibility, scalability. The is why we proposed a new structure buffer which can resolve these problems. In this paper, we propose an efficient WDM output buffer based on current technology. The superiority of proposed WDM output buffer over conventional buffers is its simple and optimized structure for large capacity WDM photonic switching system.

β-Casein, a major protein in cow’s milk, is divided into the A1 and A2 type variants. Digestion of A1 β-casein yields the peptide β-casomorphin-7 which could cause gastrointestinal (GI) discomfort but A2 milk containing only A2 β-casein might be more beneficial than A1/A2 (regular) milk. The aim of this study was to evaluate the differences in GI discomfort after ingestion of A2 milk and A1/A2 milk. A randomized, double-blind, cross-over human trial was performed with 40 subjects who experienced GI discomfort following milk consumption. For each intervention period, either A2 milk first (A2→A1/A2) or A1/A2 milk was first consumed for 2 weeks (A1/A2→A2) following a 2-week washout period. GI symptom rating scale (GSRS) scores, questionnaire for digestive symptoms, and laboratory tests including fecal calprotectin were evaluated. For symptom analysis, generalized estimating equations gamma model was used. A2 milk increased bloating (P = 0.041) and loose stools (P = 0.026) compared to A1/A2 milk in GSRS. However, A2 milk caused less abdominal pain (P = 0.050), fecal urgency (P < 0.001) and borborygmus (P = 0.007) compared to A1/A2 milk in questionnaire for digestive symptoms. In addition, fecal calprotectin also decreased or less increased after consumption of A2 milk compared to A1/A2 milk (P = 0.030), and this change was more pronounced in males (P = 0.005) than in females. There were no significant adverse reactions during the trial. A2 milk alleviated digestive discomfort in Koreans following A2 milk consumption (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT06252636 and CRIS KCT0009301).

Background/Aims: Synchronous multiple gastric cancer (SMGC) accounts for approximately 6% to 14% of gastric cancer (GC) cases. This study aimed to identify risk factors for SMGC. Methods: A total of 14,603 patients diagnosed with GC were prospectively enrolled. Data including age, sex, body mass index, smoking, alcohol consumption, family history, p53 expression, microsatellite instability, cancer classification, lymph node metastasis, and treatment were collected. Risk factors were analyzed using logistic regression analysis between a single GC and SMGC. Results: The incidence of SMGC was 4.04%, and that of early GC (EGC) and advanced GC (AGC) was 5.43% and 3.11%, respectively. Patients with SMGC were older (65.33 years vs 61.75 years, p<0.001) and more likely to be male. Lymph node metastasis was found in 27% of patients with SMGC and 32% of patients with single GC. Multivariate analysis showed that SMGC was associated with sex (male odds ratio [OR], 1.669; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.223 to 2.278; p=0.001), age (≥65 years OR, 1.532; 95% CI, 1.169 to 2.008; p=0.002), and EGC (OR, 1.929; 95% CI, 1.432 to 2.600; p<0.001). Survival rates were affected by Lauren classification, sex, tumor size, cancer type, distant metastasis, and venous invasion but were not related to the number of GCs. However, the survival rate of AGC with SMGC was very high. Conclusions: SMGC had unique characteristics such as male sex, older age, and EGC, and the survival rate of AGC, in which the intestinal type was much more frequent, was very good (Trial registration number: NCT04973631).

A Fast RSSI using Novel Logarithmic Gain Amplifiers for Wireless Communication

This paper presents a fast received signal strength indicator (RSSI) circuit for wireless communication application. The proposed circuit is developed using power detectors and an analog-to-digital converter to achieve a fast settling time. The power detector is consisted of a novel logarithmic variable gain amplifier (VGA), a peak detector, and a comparator in a closed loop. The VGA achieved a wide logarithmic gain range in a closed loop form for stable operation. For the peak detector, a fast settling time and small ripple are obtained using the orthogonal characteristics of quadrature signals. In 0.18-μm CMOS process, the RSSI value settles down in 20 μs with power consumption of 20 mW, and the maximum ripple of the RSSI is 30 mV. The proposed RSSI circuit is fabricated with a personal handy-phone system transceiver. The active area is 0.8 × 0.2 mm2.
