        The effects of Internet addiction on the lifestyle and dietary behavior of Korean adolescents

        We performed this study to examine lifestyle patterns and dietary behavior based on the level of Internet addiction of Korean adolescents. Data were collected from 853 Korean junior high school students. The level of Internet addiction was determined based on the Korean Internet addiction self-scale short form for youth, and students were classified as high-risk Internet users, potential-risk Internet users, and no risk Internet users. The associations between the students’ levels of Internet addiction and lifestyle patterns and dietary behavior were analyzed using a chi-square test. Irregular bedtimes and the use of alcohol and tobacco were higher in high-risk Internet users than no risk Internet users. Moreover, in high-risk Internet users, irregular dietary behavior due to the loss of appetite, a high frequency of skipping meals, and snacking might cause imbalances in nutritional intake. Diet quality in high-risk Internet users was also worse than in potential-risk Internet users and no risk Internet users. We demonstrated in this study that high-risk Internet users have inappropriate dietary behavior and poor diet quality, which could result in stunted growth and development. Therefore, nutrition education targeting high-risk Internet users should be conducted to ensure proper growth and development.

      • 고체연료 램젯용 HTPB 연료그레인에 첨가제와 점화보조제가 미치는 영향

        첨가제와 점화 보조제가 적용된 고체연료 램젯 용 연료 그레인의 연소시험을 수행하여 점화 지연과 연소 효율을 확인하였다. 연료 그레인은 HTPB에 AP 파우더 15 wt.% 보론 입자 5 wt.%가 혼합된 형태로 구성되어 있다. 연료 그레인에 NC/BKNO3와 Composite 추진제로 이루어진 점화보조제를 도포하여 우수한 점화성능을 확보하였다. 에탄올 블렌딩 과산화수소 가스발생기를 통해 램젯 연소실의 공기와 가깝도록 온도, 압력, 산소 조성을 조절한 산화제 가스를 유속 200 kg/m<SUP>2</SUP>s 으로 흐르도록 설정하였다. 실험 결과, 점화보조제의 작동을 통해 연료그레인에서 0.5초의 점화 지연시간을 파악하였다. 또한 보론의 연소를 통해 8 bar의 일정한 연소실 압력과 0.86의 높은 연소 효율을 확인하였다. Firing test of the fuel grain for solid fuel ramjet with additives and ignition support material was conducted. Fuel grain consist of HTPB mixed with AP particle 15 wt.%, Boron particle 5 wt.%. To cause the short ignition delay, ignition support consist of NC/BKNO3 and composite propellant was coated to the fuel grain. An oxidant gas having a controlled temperature, pressure and oxygen composition close to the air condition in the ramjet combustor was supplied using the Ethanol blended H2O2 gas generator. Gas was set to flow at a mass flow rate of 150 g/s and mass flux of 200 kg/m<SUP>2</SUP> in the grain port. Through the test, ignition support operated well and ignition delay of 0.5. During the test, stable chamber pressure with 8 bar and high combustion efficiency of 0.86 was confirmed.

      • Backstepping control integrated with model predictive control for selective catalytic reduction system of diesel vehicle

        NOx emission from diesel vehicles has become an environmental problem, and regulatory standards have been strengthened with the real driving test. Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) with an active urea dosing system is one of the promising aftertreatment systems for both heavy- and light-duty vehicles. This study proposes backstepping control integrated with model predictive control to determine the amount of urea dosing. First, we prove that the subsystem of SCR is input-to-state stable with respect to the disturbances regardless of the value of the coverage fraction. Second, the desired coverage fraction of the catalyst is determined by solving the finite-horizon optimal control problem with the information of measurable disturbances. The backstepping control approach is then applied to determine the value of the manipulated input to achieve the desired coverage fraction. Compared to the results of the backstepping controller with a fixed coverage fraction setpoint, the proposed controller can reduce SCR-out NOx by 1.91 % using 0.24 % less amount of SCR-in NH₃. In addition, the total efficiency of NH₃ usage by the proposed controller is always higher than that of the backstepping controller with a coverage setpoint of 0.1.

        Frontal Alpha Asymmetry Correlates with Suicidal Behavior in Major Depressive Disorder

        Objective: Based on the constant associations made between major depressive disorder (MDD) and alpha asymmetry, and MDD and suicide, this study aimed to examine the relationship between frontal alpha asymmetry and suicide in MDD patients. Methods: Sixty-six MDD patients, of whom fifteen were male and fifty-one were female, were recruited. Independent groups were created based on the median score of frontal alpha asymmetry: the left dominant (LD) group and the right dominant (RD) group. The alpha band (8‒12 Hz) and its sub-bands (i.e., low alpha band: 8‒10 Hz; high alpha band: 10‒12 Hz) were of interest. Source level alpha asymmetry was calculated as well. Results: Suicidal behavior was positively correlated with the asymmetry indices of the low alpha band and the alpha band in the LD group and that of the high alpha band in the RD group. Source level analysis revealed positive correlations between suicidal behavior and the asymmetry index of the low alpha band in the LD group. Conclusion: Frontal alpha asymmetry, especially that of the low alpha band, might reflect the cognitive deficits associated with suicidal behaviors in MDD patients.

        Dietary intake based on physical activity level in Korean elementary school students

        Prevalence of childhood obesity is increasing significantly worldwide due to energy imbalance perhaps stemming from undesirable dietary behavior and physical activity level. The objective of the study was to examine the effects of physical activity level on nutritional status in elementary school students. The subjects were comprised of 287 elementary school students between 4th and 6th grades in Seoul, Korea. The level of physical activity was scored with a modified Godin leisure-time exercise questionnaire and was categorized as active, moderately active, and sedentary. Dietary intakes were obtained using a 24-hour food recall method. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted to test for global significant differences of nutrient intakes by physical activity level. Boys were more active than girls. Daily intakes of energy in moderately active boys were significantly higher than in the sedentary group, but intakes of calcium and iron in moderately active boys were lower than active boys. For girls, physical activity level did not affect nutrient density at all. Intakes of calcium, vitamin C, and folate for both boys and girls were below 50% of recommended intake. Physical activity did not affect nutrient density and our participants were exposed to nutritional imbalance. Therefore, the results suggest that nutrition education regarding balanced diet and optimum physical activity is required for children's health and growth.

        경찰공무원 채용 신체검사 기준 현실화를 위한 비교연구

        이 연구의 목적은 경찰공무원 채용 신체검사 기준 중 사회적으로 지속하여 문제 제기가 되는 사지의 완전성, 색신(色神), 사시, 문신 기준을 국내 유사기관 및국외 경찰과 비교하여 개선 방안을 제시하는 것이다. 국내 유사기관 조사결과 사지의 완전성은 소방공무원의 경우 완화된 표현을 사용하며 신체의 구조보다 ‘기능’에 중점을 두고 있었다. 색신은 기관마다 상이한 기준을 적용하고 있었으며, 특히 소방공무원은 색각이라는 용어를 사용하고있었다. 사시에 대해서는 두 기관 모두 별도 제한 조건을 두고 있지 않았으며, 문신은 소방공무원의 경우 별도의 제한 조건이 없었다. 국외의 경우 미국, 영국, 독일, 캐나다, 호주, 뉴질랜드를 중심으로 조사하였다. 사지의 완전성은 대체로 제한 규정이 없었으며, 색신은 우리나라와 동일하거나더욱 엄격한 기준을 적용하고 있었다. 사시는 별도의 제한 규정이 없었지만 뉴질랜드의 경우 복시(diplopia)를 제한 규정으로 두고 있었으며, 문신은 노출되는 경우를 엄격히 제한하고 있었다. 비교연구 결과 현행 경찰공무원 채용 신체검사 기준은 경찰 업무에 지장을 주지 않으면서도 응시기회를 과도하게 제한하지 않는 합리적인 기준을 마련해야 하며, 일부 용어(사지의 완전성, 색신)의 수정이 요구된다. The purpose of this study is to compare the standards of limbs physical completeness, color blindness, strabismus, and tattoos, which have been continuously controversial about their appropriateness and discrimination among the physical examination standards for police officers, compared with similar domestic institutions and major advanced countries to improve measures. As a result of a survey by similar domestic organizations, the integrity of limbs physical completeness was used in a mitigated expression in the case of fire officials and focused on function rather than the structure of the body. Different standards were applied to each institution, and fire officials in particular were using the term color vision. There were no restrictions on strabismus in both institutions, and there were no restrictions on tattoos for fire officials. In the case of foreign countries, the survey was focused on the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. There were generally no restrictions on limbs physical completeness, and the same or more stringent standard as in Korea was applied. There was no specific restriction on strabismus, but in New Zealand, diplopia was set as a restriction, and tattoos were strictly limited in exposure. As a result of the comparative study, the current standards for physical examination for hiring police officers should establish reasonable standards that do not interfere with police work and do not excessively limit application sessions. In addition, it seems that some terms(limbs physical completeness, color blindness) should also be corrected.

        Global analysis of protein homomerization in <i>Saccharomyces cerevisiae</i>

        <P>In vivo analyses of the occurrence, subcellular localization, and dynamics of protein–protein interactions (PPIs) are important issues in functional proteomic studies. The bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC) assay has many advantages in that it provides a reliable way to detect PPIs in living cells with minimal perturbation of the structure and function of the target proteins. Previously, to facilitate the application of the BiFC assay to genome-wide analysis of PPIs, we generated a collection of yeast strains expressing full-length proteins tagged with the N-terminal fragment of Venus (VN), a yellow fluorescent protein variant, from their own native promoters. In the present study, we constructed a VC (the C-terminal fragment of Venus) fusion library consisting of 5671 <I>MAT</I>α strains expressing C-terminally VC-tagged proteins (representing ∼91% of the yeast proteome). For genome-wide analysis of protein homomer formation, we mated each strain in the VC fusion library with its cognate strain in the VN fusion library and performed the BiFC assay. From this analysis, we identified 186 homomer candidates. We further investigated the functional relevance of the homomerization of Pln1, a yeast perilipin. Our data set provides a useful resource for understanding the physiological roles of protein homomerization. Furthermore, the VC fusion library together with the VN fusion library will provide a valuable platform to systematically analyze PPIs in the natural cellular context.</P>
