Hyun Soo Kim, Jong Woon Cheon, Min Su Kim, Chang Kil Jung, Kyung Rok Kim, Jae Won Choi, Dong Woo Kang and Sun Young Kim1 Departments of Internal Medicine and Pathology1, DongKang Medical Center, Ulsan, Korea Actinomycosis is a chronic suppurative disease and caused by Actinomycosis species, principally Actinomyces israelii, which are part of the normal inhabitant on the mucous membrane of the oropharynx, gastrointestinal tract, and urogenital tract. It usually affects cervicofacial, thoracic and abdominal tissue. Cervicofacial type has the highest percentage of occurrence with 50%. Actinomycosis frequently occurs following dental extraction, jaw surgery, chronic infection or poor oral hygiene. It may also be considered as an opportunistic infection in immunocompromised patients such as malignancy, human immunodeficiency virus infection, diabetes mellitus, steroid usage or alcoholism. But, actinomycosis rarely occurs in adults with normal immunity and rare in the esophagus. We report an unusual case of esophageal actinomycosis which was developed in a patient with normal immunity and improved by therapy with intravenous penicillin G followed oral amoxicillin, and we also reviewed the associated literature.
Collagenase와 esterase가 상아질 접착강도와 nanoleakage에 미치는 영향

본 연구는 상아질 접착계면에서 collagenase와 esterase가 접착강도와 극미세누출에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위해 시행하였다. 발치된 치아의 교합면 상아질에 Single Bond 2(SB)와 Clearfil SE bond(SE)를 사용하여 상아질-레진 접착시편을 제작하고,시편을 인산완충용액(PBS)에 24시간(I),또는 PBS(II),collagenase 용액(III),esterase 용액(IV)에 4주간 보관 한 후 질산은 용액으로 염색하였다. 시편의 미세인장접착강도(μTBS)와 질산은 침투 면적을 측정하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. SB군의 접착강도가 II∼IV군에서 SE군에 비해 낮은 값을 나타내었다(p<O.05). SB군은 II∼IV군의 접착강도가 I군에 비해 낮은 값을 보였으나(p<O.05),SE군의 접착강도는 I∼IV군간에 차이를 보이지 않았다(p>O.05). 2. SB군의 질산은 침투 면적이 SE군에 비해 높았으며(p<O.05),SB군과 SE군에서 질산은 침투 면적은 I ∼ IV군간에 차이를 보이지 않았다(p>O.05). 3. 접착강도와 질산은 침투 면적은 SE군의 I, II,III군에서 음의 상관관계를 보였다(p<O.05). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of collagenase and esterase on dentin bond strength and nanoleakage. Resin composites were bonded to occlusal dentin of premolars with Single Bond 2(SB) and Clearfil SE Bond(SE). After the microtensile specimens were prepared and stored in PBS for 24 hours(I) or, PBS(II), collagenase(III), esterase(IV) solution for 4 weeks, the specimens were stained with silver nitrate solution. Microtensile bond strength(μTBS) and silver penetration area were measured and, the results were as follows: 1. For group II, III, and IV, the bond strengths of SB were lower than those of SB(p<0.05). The bond strengths of SB II, III, and IV were lower than that of SB I(p<0.05). There was no difference among the bond strengths of SE I ∼ IV groups(p>0.05). 2. Silver penetration areas of SB were higher than those of SE for all storage groups(p<0.05). In SB and SE groups, there was no significant difference of silver penetration area among I ∼ IV groups(p>0.05). 3. SE I, II, and III showed inverse relationship between the bond strengths and the silver penetration areas(p<0.05).

The purpose of this study was to investigate the postnatal development of pulpal innervation with the tooth development and eruption process in developing rat mandibular molars (postnatal 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 35day-old and adult rats). Immunohistochemical method was carried out for the detection of nerve fibers, using the antibody against calcitonin gene-related peptide(CGRP). The results were as follows: The feature of CGRP-IR nerve fibers were shown in a bead-like appearance. The time of nerve entering into the dental papilla of tooth follicle began at the occured advanced dentinogenesis. The development of Raschkow plexus began at the formative stage of the roots and was accelerated at the stage of the crown emerged into the oral cavity. The number of nerve fibers entering the odontoblastic layer increased with the tooth eruption and mastication. The development of innervation was shown to be related with the stage of the development of individual teeth rather than the chronological age of the rat.

The objective of this study is to predict the high risk group of coronary artery disease from body mass index, blood pressure, fasting blood sugar and serum lipids level using the method of discriminant analysis. Variables with significant difference between coronary artery disease group and normal group were HDS-C, LDL-C/HDL-C, LDL-C, and TG. But the acuity did not exceed 70% in any single variable. As the results of discriminant analysis, statistically significant discriminant variables were HDL-C, T-chol, FBS and TG. The discriminant equation was(Y) = -0.06759(HDL-C) + 0.01498(T-chol),+0.01923(FBS) - 0.01421(TG) + 0.5187, and the overall discriminant power using the above 4 variables was 79.3%

In the present study, low carbon ferritic and bainitic steels with different contents of Mo, Ti, and Nb were designed for bothseismic and fire-resistant applications. The microstructure of steels containing 0.3 wt% Mo–0.02 wt% Nb (‘A’ hereinafter)was mainly composed of bainite. By contrast, the microstructure of steels with 0.2 wt% Mo–0.13 wt% Ti (‘B’ hereinafter)consisted of ferrite with a high density of nano-sized (Ti,Mo)-rich MX precipitates. The results showed that the bainiticmicrostructure (‘A’ steel) was quite favorable to high-temperature strength and thermal stability. The yield strength of ‘A’ steelat both room and 600 °C temperatures increased consistently with increasing thermal exposure time (600 °C/200–1000 h),since the precipitation of NbC particles occurred while maintaining bainitic ferrite platelets with a high density of dislocationsduring exposure. In the ‘B’ steel, the formation of nano-sized (Ti,Mo)-rich MX particles was effective to impededislocation movement, leading to excellent plasticity (lower yield ratio) at room temperature. However, their contributionto precipitation hardening was not so much at 600 °C, as compared to the bainitic strengthening. During low cycle fatiguetests at room temperature, the main different feature between the two steels is that the ‘A’ steel showed cyclic softeningwhile cyclic hardening was evident in the ‘B’ steel. The bainitic microstructure showed a better fatigue life due to increasedductility manifested by cyclic softening, by which dislocation cell was developed.
Characteristics and Breeding of a New Thornless Castor aralia Cultivar, Cheongsong II

New thornless cultivar of castor aralia(Kalopanax septemlobus Koidz.) was developed and selected in Cheongsong, Prov. of GyeongSangbuk-do during the period from 1994 to 1999 by Korea Forest Research Institute(KFRI). The new thornless cultivar, Cheongsong II is characterized by a thinner outer-bark and soft, wider leaves, and is particularly characterized by thornless stems. This cultivar has a thinner outer-bark(8.82mm) when compared with thorned type trees(13.95mm). It also has a larger leaves than does thorned type trees. Consequently, the new thornless cultivar, Cheongsong II is defined to have thinner bark and longer and wider leaves than do other thorned type trees. thorned type trees.

The purpose of this study is the development of a lathe which can cut any pistons of oval shape with high speed, accuracy and precision by CNC (computer Numerical Control) method. Y axis which is the mechanism of position determination with high speed response has been aded to the CNC lathe and ovality and profile has been cut under the synchronous control of C-Y-Z axes. In the case of ovality of Φ0.5mm, the productivity can be improved up to 1500rpm by high speed cutting than modeling method.

Photocatalyzed degradation of propylene gas was carried out over precoated titanium dioxide(anatase) illuminated W light in a flow reactor. photocatalytic oxidation of propylene gas indicated high conversion rates (78.0%) to CO₂ gas. And photocatalytic oxidation of gas according to a fold, twofold, and threefold of titanium dioxide(anatase) respectively gave high conversion rate. The longer reaction time was, the higher conversion rate to CO₂ gas showed.
