      • Facial Skin Temperature Change associated with Emotional Dimension

        Yeongji Eum,Jin-Sup Eom,Hyeong-Seock Oh,Mi-Sook Park,Hyo-Eun Kim,Jin-Hun Sohn 대한인간공학회 2011 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2011 No.5

Objective: The purpose of present study was to investigate facial skin temperature change associated with dimension of arousal and valence. Background: Arousal is associated with attention resource allocation. When operator made an error of judgment in industrial setting, it can lead to terrible accident. Because of this, technology might be needed to monitor the operator's level of arousal and valence in real time. Method: Eighty-seven healthy college students participated in the study. They were exposed to a variety of emotional stimuli, and divided 4 groups according to self-reported arousal-valence level: arousal-positive, arousal-negative, relaxpositive, and relax-negative. Facial skin temperature was measured in seven areas: the forehead, the right & left eye, the right & left cheek, the bridge of the nose, and the end of the nose. Result: The findings showed that 4 groups had significant difference in facial skin temperature at the right eye, the bridge of the nose, and the end of the nose. Arousal resulted in increased facial skin temperature at the three facial areas. Valence did not result in constant outcome among facial area. Facial thermal imaging might be suitable for the non-invasive and quick monitoring of emotional state. This facial thermal imaging is expected to monitor the operator's state that operates artifact.

광주전단대 : 영남육괴와 옥천변성대의 지구조적 경계?

        하영지(Yeongji Ha),송용선(Yong-Sun Song),김정민(Jeon-Min Kim) 한국암석학회 2014 암석학회지 Vol.23 No.1

In this study we carried out SHRIMP U-Pb age dating of detrital zircons from age-unknown meta-sedimentary formations distributed around the NNE-SSW trending Gwangju Shear Zone, a branch of Honam Shear Zone, in the southwestern region of the Korean Peninsula. The meta-sedimentary formations from the west (Yeonggwang) and east (Jangseong) areas of the Gwangju Shear Zone have different patterns of zircon age distributions. Zircons of quartzites from the Yeonggwang area yield clusters at Neoarchean (ca. 2,500 Ma), Paleoproterozoic (ca. 1,860 Ma), Neoproterozoic (Ca 960 Ma) and Paleozoic (ca. 380 Ma) ages, but those of the Jangseong area yield clusters at only Neoarchean (ca. 2,500 Ma) and Paleoproterozoic (ca. 1,880 Ma) ages. The contrastive patterns on age indicate that the meta-sedimentary formations from the west and east areas correspond to the meta-sedimentary formations of the Okcheon Metamorphic Belt and the sedimentary formations overlying on the Yeongnam Massif, respectively. The results imply that the Gwangju Shear Zone is the tectonic boundary between the Okcheon Metamorphic Belt and the Yeongnam Massif.

      • In Vitro Culture of Rat Primary Hepatocytes Employing Monolayer and Spheroid Culture Environments

        Imran Ullah,Yeongji Kim,Malgum Lim,Keon Bong Oh,Seongsoo Hwang,Yurianna Shin,Youngim Kim,Gi-Sun Im,Tai-Young Hur,Sun A Ock 한국동물생명공학회(구 한국동물번식학회) 2017 Reproductive & Developmental Biology(Supplement) Vol.41 No.2

Primary hepatocytes (PH) are considered as “gold standard” for drug screening because of its ability to express the entire set of drug metabolizing enzymes and transporters. Hepatocytes culturing and maintaining their hepatocyte fate in vitro is one of the major issue from last decade. The main problem in hepatocytes in vitro culturing is that, these cells rapidly loss their hepatic morphology and liver specific function in culture condition. In the present study, we isolated rat PH and cultured in monolayer (2D) as well as spheroid (3D) culture system. The 2D cultured PH hepatocyte showed an elongated hepatocyte morphology while, 3D cultured PH showed spheroid morphology with gradual decrease in diameter up to 7 days. After 7 days of in vitro culture, these cells were analyzed for the expression of hepatic markers (Alb, Tf, Afp) and apoptotic markers (Bax, Bcl2). Furthermore, PH in both culture systems was induced with two inducers i.e. 3-methylcholanthrene (3-MC, Cyp1a specific inducer) and dexamethasone (Cyp3a specific inducer) for 48 and 72 hours, respectively. The mRNA level of Cyp1a and Cyp3a were analyzed in induced (3-MC, dexamethasone) and non-induced PH, respectively. After 7 days in vitro culture, PH showed dramatic down regulation of hepatic markers in both culture systems. Furthermore, expression of apoptotic markers was higher in 2D cultured PH as compared to 3D. Cyp1a and Cyp3a mRNA level showed higher RNA content in 2D culture PH after 48 of induction. Therefore, we concluded that there was no significant difference found in two culture system and further studies are needed to find out the essential components for PH in vitro culture rather than culture system.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to identify optimal algorithm for emotion recognition which classify three different emotional states (happiness, neutral, and surprise) using physiological features. Background: Recent emotion recognition studies have tried to detect human emotion by using physiological signals. It is important for emotion reconition to apply on human-computer interaction system for emotion detection. Method: 217 students participated in this experiment. During three different emotional stimuli are presented to participants, ANS responses(EDA, SKT, ECG, Respiration, and PPG) as physiological signals were measured for 1 minute as baseline and for 1-1.5 minutes during emotional state. The obtained signals were analyzed for 30 seconds from the baseline and the emotional state. Participants assessed the induced emotion on emotional assessment scale after emotional stimuli presentation. Analysis for emotion classification were done by linear discriminant analysis (SPSS 15.0), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Multilayer perceptron (MLP) using substracting baseline values from the emotional state. Results: The emotional stimuli had 96% validity and 5.8 effectiveness on average. The result of linear discriminant analysis using physiological signals showed that an accuracy of three different emotions classification was 83.4%. And an accuracy of three emotions classification by SVM was 75.5% and 55.6% by MLP. Conclusion: This study identified that three emotions were classified by linear discriminant analysis using various physiological features. Future study is needed to obtain stability and reliablity of this result compare with accuracy of emotion classification using other algorithms. Application: This could help emotion recognition studies lead to better chance to recognize various human emotions by using physiological signals as well as is able to be applied on human-computer interaction system for emotion reecognition.

      • Relationship between personality and emotional responses for children

        Eun-Hye Jang,Yeongji Eum,Byoung-Jun Park,Sang-Hyeob Kim,Jin-Hun Sohn 대한인간공학회 2013 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2013 No.10

Objective: The aim of this study is to identify between personality and psychological responses induced by emotional stimuli (happiness, sadness, anger, boredom and stress) for children. Background: Many researches have interested in that there is close correlation between personality and emotion. The relationship between them has to study in the view of the integrations, not respective property, because personality is deeply ingrained and relatively enduring patterns of thought, feeling and behavior and emotion can take advantage of individual differences in sensitivities to situational cues and predispositions to emotional states. In particular, in that childhood is an important period for formation of their personality and emotion expression and regulation, studies on the personality and emotion for children is necessary. Method: Prior to the experiment, we made parents of 94 children rate personalities of children on Korean Personality Inventory for Children (K-PIC). Results of 64 children without missing answers to all questions were analyzed. 64 children were exposeed to five emotional stimuli and were asked to report the classification and intensity of their experienced emotion. Results: Children were classified into two groups of the lower 25% and higher 25% scores in twenty sub-scales of K-PIC and psychological responses to five emotional stimuli between two groups were compared. Accuracy of emotion experienced by emotional stimuli showed a significant difference between two groups, the lower and higher scores in Delinquency. Also, there was a significant difference in the intensity of experienced emotions between two groups in Intellectual Screening and Psychosis. Conclusion: Our result has showed that Delinquency, Intellectual Screening and Psychosis influence the accuracy and intensity of emotional responses. Application: This study can offer a guideline to overcome methodological limitation of emotion studies for children and help researcher basically understand and recognize human emotion in HCI.

Exact solutions to Ernst-like equation in (2+2) Hamiltonian reduction

Yoon Jong Hyuk,Kim Yeongji,Oh Seung Hun 한국물리학회 2024 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.84 No.12

We apply the method of Hamiltonian reduction without isometry as a way to fnd exact solutions to Einstein’s equations. To fnd exact solutions, we introduce two spatial Killing vector felds to the Einstein’s equations obtained through the Hamiltonian reduction, and derive the Ernst-like equation in the privileged coordinates. By solving the Ernst-like equation, we found a four-parameter family of exact solutions, one of which is interpreted as a deformation of the general Kasner spacetime. We extend our method to spacetimes where two independent gravitational degrees of freedom co-exist and interact with each other, and obtain a set of two partial diferential equations satisfed by them. If we substitute a pre-fxed diagonal mode into these equations, and then the equations reduce to a single non-linear partial diferential equation, which is interpreted as the equation of non-diagonal mode of gravitational waves propagating on the “background” spacetime determined by the diagonal mode. We choose three simplest “background” spacetimes, and discuss the corresponding non-diagonal modes in each case.
