      • Insights into the Early Growth of Homogeneous Single-Layer Graphene over Ni–Mo Binary Substrates

        Rü,mmeli, Mark H.,Zeng, Mengqi,Melkhanova, Svetlana,Gorantla, Sandeep,Bachmatiuk, Alicja,Fu, Lei,Yan, Chenglin,Oswald, Steffen,Mendes, Rafael G.,Makarov, Denys,Schmidt, Oliver,Eckert, Jü,r American Chemical Society 2013 Chemistry of materials Vol.25 No.19

<P>The employment of Ni–Mo films has recently been shown to yield strictly homogeneous single-layer graphene. In this study, we systematically investigate the different stages of nucleation and growth of graphene over Ni–Mo layers. The studies reveal that the Ni film breaks up and diffuses into the underlying Mo foil, forming a Ni–Mo intermetallic. Nucleation only occurs from Ni sites, and thus, the nucleation density can be controlled by the Ni film thickness. Both nucleation and growth of the graphene are shown to be susceptible to very efficient self-termination processes to the formation of molybdenum carbide, and this guarantees the formation of large area graphene that consists <I>entirely</I> of monolayer graphene.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/cmatex/2013/cmatex.2013.25.issue-19/cm4020783/production/images/medium/cm-2013-020783_0009.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/cm4020783'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

      • The Study of Influencing Factors of Mobile E-commerce Software Use Intention-based on TAM and TRA

        Yan Zhao,Ya-Ru Xue,Yan-Fei Jin,Jun-Wei Li,Yi He 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Grid and Distributed Comp Vol.9 No.8

With the wide popularity of mobile devices, e-commerce software in the mobile client forms a larger consumer market, which makes the volume of e-commerce transactions having a wide range of growth. As the consumers have a frequent contact with mobile devices, which makes consumers pay more attention to security and entertainment of the e-commerce software. Past mobile e-business research typically focus on the related factors about transaction process, like interface design, services and user experience, but seldom study the factors about consumers. On the basis of the TAM, this paper not only added perceived security and perceived entertainment, but also the consumers’ personality factors like subjective norm in TRA, into the model. The study shows that PU, PEU, PS and PE all will have direct or indirect effects on use attitude and use intention, and subjective norms and use attitude will directly affect the consumers' use intention. Through the empirical analysis we found that e-commerce operators not only make the consumers experience more of usefulness and ease of use, security, and entertainment in the technology and services, but also improve the popularity with the aid of the mainstream media propaganda and star power to enhance the public's normative beliefs, which will ultimately affect the user behavior of the consumers.

      • Dynamics and Liver Disease Specific Aspects of Quality of Life Among Patients with Chronic Liver Disease in Yunnan, China

        Che, Yan-Hua,You, Jing,Chongsuvivatwong, Virasakdi,Li, Li,Sriplung, Hucha,Yan, Yuan-Zhi,Ma, Si-Jia,Zhang, Xiaoli,Shen, Ting,Chen, He-Min,Rao, Shao-Feng,Zhang, Ru-Yi Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.12

Background: Patients with chronic liver diseases (CLD) may have compromised health related quality of life (HRQoL). Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection has long been the leading cause of CLD including liver cancer and cirrhosis. Knowledge on different symptom profiles of CLD should help in development of comprehensive treatment and patient care plans. Objective: To access the facets of HRQoL in chronic liver diseases throughout their spectrum of severity. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University in Yunnan Province of China. Both out- and inpatients undergoing treatment protocols for different HBV related liver disease states were consecutively collected from December 2012 to June 2013. ANOVA was used to compare the mean scores of EQ-5D and chronic liver disease questionnaire (CLDQ) among 5 disease groups. The relationship between demographic variables predicting global CLDQ scores and the domains of CLDQ was analysed. Results: A total of 1040 patients including 520 without complications, 91 with compensated cirrhosis, 198 with decompensated cirrhosis, 131 with HCC and 100 with liver failure were recruited. All domains of CLDQ, the means of EQ-5D value and EQ VAS exhibited significant decline with worsening of disease severity from uncomplicated HBV to liver failure. The multivariate regression demonstrated the reduction of mean scores of CLDQ domain at advanced stage. Patients with liver failure and HCC had more HRQoL impairment than other disease states. No effect of patient gender was found. Patient age was associated with 'fatigue' and 'worry' domains (p=0.006; p=0.004) but not with other domains and global scores of CLDQ and ED-5D. Conclusions: The HRQoL in chronic hepatitis B patients is greatly affected by disease states. Care for HBV-related diseases should consider not only the outcomes of treatment strategies but also improvement in patient wellbeing.

      • In vitro study on anti-inflammatory effects of epigallocatechin-3-gallate-loaded nano- and microscale particles

Wu, Yan Ru,Choi, Hong Jin,Kang, Yun Gyeong,Kim, Jeong Koo,Shin, Jung-Woog Dove Medical Press 2017 International journal of nanomedicine Vol.12 No.-

<P><B>Purpose</B></P><P>This study aimed to develop an anti-inflammation system consisting of epigallo-catechin-3-gallate (EGCG) encapsulated in poly(lactide-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) particles to promote wound healing.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>Nano- and microscale PLGA particles were fabricated using a water/oil/water emulsion solvent evaporation method. The optimal particle size was determined based on drug delivery efficiency and biocompatibility. The particles were loaded with EGCG. The anti-inflammatory effects of the particles were evaluated in an in vitro cell-based inflammation model.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Nano- and microscale PLGA particles were produced. The microscale particles showed better biocompatibility than the nanoscale particles. In addition, the microscale particles released ~60% of the loaded drug, while the nanoscale particles released ~50%, within 48 hours. Thus, microscale particles were selected as the carriers. The optimal EGCG working concentration was determined based on the effects on cell viability and inflammation. A high EGCG dose (100 μM) resulted in poor cell viability; therefore, a lower dose (≤50 μM) was used. Moreover, 50 μM EGCG had a greater anti-inflammatory effect than 10 μM concentration on lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation. Therefore, 50 μM EGCG was selected as the working dose. EGCG-loaded microparticles inhibited inflammation in human dermal fibroblasts. Interestingly, the inhibitory effects persisted after replacement of the drug-loaded particle suspension solution with fresh medium.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>The EGCG-loaded microscale particles are biocompatible and exert a sustained anti-inflammatory effect.</P>

Isolation and enzymatic characterization of the first reported hyaluronidase from Yak (Bos grunniens) testis

        Ru-ren Li,Qun-li Yu,Ling Han,Liang-yan Rong,Meng-meng Yang,Mai-rui An 한국화학공학회 2014 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.31 No.11

A novel hyaluronidase (BgHya1) from Yak testis was isolated and shown to have compara-tively high activity on sodium hyaluronate. However, surveys on BgHya1 are still limited. The enzyme was purifiedthrough gel filtration on Sephacryl S-100 and cation-exchange on SP Sepharose fast flow; the purity was confirmedby a reverse phase FPLC Shodex C4 column. The specific activity of the purified BgHya1 was 20.4 U/mg assayed bythe colorimetric method against 0.85 U/mg for the crude enzyme, representing a 24-fold purification. It was a monomericprotein of 55 kDa estimated by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and SephacrylS-200. It exhibited maximum activity in the presence of 0.15 M NaCl at 37 oC, pH 3.8, and a specificity to sodiumhyaluronate higher than that of chondroitin-4-sulfate, chondroitin-6-sulfate, and dermatan. The Km value for BgHya1,using sodium hyaluronate as substrate, was 0.106 mg/mL. Activity of BgHya1 was inhibited mildly by Ca2+and Fe2+,and significantly by Fe3+, Mg2+, EDTA, urea, heparin, and 0.5 M NaCl. It was not affected by Cu2+,Zn2+,Co2+, ascorbicacid, PMSF, DTT, glutathione (reduced), or L-cysteine. BgHya1 was shown to be heat unstable in the range of 4-45 oC. In terms of storage stability, 92% of the activity was retained after four weeks at 4 oC, and 58% at room temperature. In addition, adding BSA (1.0 mg/mL) to the enzyme sample prior to freezing resulted in complete retention of enzymeactivity. This work yielded a high purity hyaluronidase, the first one isolated from by-product.

Highly Selective Production of Compound K from Ginsenoside Rd by Hydrolyzing Glucose at C-3 Glycoside Using β-Glucosidase of Bifidobacterium breve ATCC 15700

        ( Ru Zhang ),( Xue-mei Huang ),( Hui-juan Yan ),( Xin-yi Liu ),( Qi Zhou ),( Zhi-yong Luo ),( Xiao-ning Tan ),( Bian-ling Zhang ) 한국미생물생명공학회(구 한국산업미생물학회) 2019 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.29 No.3

To investigate a novel β-glucosidase from Bifidobacterium breve ATCC 15700 (BbBgl) to produce compound K (CK) via ginsenoside F2 by highly selective and efficient hydrolysis of the C-3 glycoside from ginsenoside Rd, the BbBgl gene was cloned and expressed in E. coli BL21. The recombinant BbBgl was purified by Ni-NTA magnetic beads to obtain an enzyme with specific activity of 37 U/mg protein using pNP-Glc as substrate. The enzyme activity was optimized at pH 5.0, 35°C, 2 or 6 U/ml, and its activity was enhanced by Mn2+ significantly. Under the optimal conditions, the half-life of the BbBgl is 180 h, much longer than the characterized β-glycosidases, and the Km and Vmax values are 2.7 mM and 39.8 μmol/mg/min for ginsenoside Rd. Moreover, the enzyme exhibits strong tolerance against high substrate concentration (up to 40 g/l ginsenoside Rd) with a molar biotransformation rate of 96% within 12 h. The good enzymatic properties and gram-scale conversion capacity of BbBgl provide an attractive method for large-scale production of rare ginsenoside CK using a single enzyme or a combination of enzymes.

Hydration characteristics of cementitious composites containing calcium silicate slag powder

        Ru Bai,Ju Zhang,Changwang Yan,Shuguang Liu,Xiaoxiao Wang 대한토목학회 2023 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.27 No.7

A significant portion of calcium silicate slag (CSS) waste is deposited in open landfills, leadingto various environmental concerns. CSS powder with high content of active β-C2S is apotential supplementary cementitious material. This study determined the isothermal hydrationheat flows of cementitious composites containing 0 − 40% CSS powder using an isothermalcalorimeter. The hydration kinetics and parameters were simulated and analyzed usingKrstulovic-Dabic model. Results indicated that the first exothermic peak of the cementitiouscomposite containing CSS powder shifted to the left and was significantly higher compared toPortland cement. The second exothermic peak also shifted to the left, but its value decreasedsignificantly. The cumulative hydration heat of the cementitious composite graduallydecreased with increasing of CSS powder content. The simulations from the kinetic modelshowed that the hydration rate of the entire process decreased with the increase of CSSpowder incorporation. These findings are expected to provide guidance for the use of CSSpowder in low-heat mortars or concrete.
