        RNA-seq for comparative transcript profiling in leaves of strawberry seedlings under salinity stress

        As a major economic crop, strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) has been widely planted in the world because of their adaptability and high economic efficiency. In the process of strawberry production, the traditional techniques of furrow irrigation, irrigating irrigation and water and fertilizer management are still relatively common, resulting in secondary salinization of the soil and an imbalance of nutrient ratio, resulting in a decrease in strawberry yield and quality. A total of 2334, 2718 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in the 3-day, 6-day salt-treated leaf tissues compared with the controls, respectively. Based on the analysis of DEG function annotation and enrichment, a pattern of strawberry leaves response to NaCl stress was proposed. The processes related to plant hormone signal and lipid metabolism pathway were noted in the response of strawberry leaves to NaCl. Our transcriptome data provides valuable insights into genes involved in the growing process of strawberry seedlings under salt stress, and may help in developing seedlings with enhanced responses to salt stress in the years to come.

        Coupling conversion of methanol and 1-butylene to propylene on HZSM-5 molecular sieve catalysts prepared by different methods

        A series of HZSM-5 catalysts were synthesized by different methods. The physicochemical properties of the HZSM-5 catalysts were characterized by XRD, SEM, N2 isothermal adsorption-desorption, NH3-TPD, Py-IR and TGA, respectively. The results indicated that different preparation conditions lead to different morphologies, textures and the distribution of acid sites. The nanosized HZSM-5 catalysts exhibited better catalytic reactivity and coke capacity than the micro-sized HZSM-5 because nanosized HZSM-5 had larger specific surface area, higher pore volume, more exposed channels and more accessible acid sites. The large particles of NZ-3 in a reasonable range and the smooth surface were conducive to product diffusion; therefore, NZ-3 exhibited higher specific propylene yield and stability than the other nanosized catalysts. The moderate density and distribution of acid sites on NZ-3 also favored the formation of propylene.

        Sintering densification and properties of Al2O3/Al cermet materials via powder metallurgy method

        Cermet materials are important new engineering materials with combined advantages of ceramics and metals. In this study,Al2O3/Al cermet materials were prepared through powder metallurgy. The effect of sintering technology on the properties ofAl2O3/Al cermet materials was analyzed as basis for preparing high-performance cermet materials. Results showed that whenthe sintering temperature was increased from 700 oC to 1000 oC under holding time for 1 h, the densification degree and hardnessof Al2O3/Al cermet materials decreased and the electric resistivity increased. In the microstructure of Al2O3/Al cermet materials,Al particles were larger and continuously distributed, whereas the Al2O3 particles were smaller and discontinuously distributed. When the holding time was increased under sintering temperature of 700 oC, the densification degree and hardness of Al2O3/Alcermet materials also increased, and the electric resistivity decreased. When 25 wt% Al2O3/Al cermet materials were sintered at700 oC for 3 h, the densification degree was higher, with hardness of 2203 HV and electric resistivity of 0.0159 Ω • m.

        Oncogenic E3 ubiquitin ligase NEDD4 binds to KLF8 and regulates the microRNA-132/NRF2 axis in bladder cancer

        The neuronally expressed developmentally downregulated 4 (NEDD4) gene encodes a ubiquitin ligase that targets the epithelial sodium channel for degradation and has been implicated in tumor growth in various cancers. Hence, in this study, we intended to characterize the functional relevance of the NEDD4-mediated Kruppel-like factor 8/microRNA-132/nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (KLF8/miR-132/NRF2) axis in the development of bladder cancer. NEDD4 and KLF8 were overexpressed in bladder cancer tissues and were associated with poorer patient survival rates. In bladder cancer cells, NEDD4 intensified the stability and transcriptional activity of KLF8 through ubiquitination to augment cell viability and migratory ability. Our investigations revealed that NEDD4 promotes the binding of KLF8 to the miR-132 promoter region and inhibits the expression of miR-132. KLF8 inhibited the expression of miR-132 to augment the viability and migratory ability of bladder cancer cells. Furthermore, miR-132 downregulated the expression of NRF2 to restrict the viability and migratory ability of bladder cancer cells. In addition, in vivo findings verified that NEDD4 regulates the KLF8/miR-132/NRF2 axis by accelerating tumor growth and lung metastasis. In conclusion, this study highlights NEDD4 as a potential therapeutic target against tumor recurrence and metastasis in bladder cancer.

        Endothelial Progenitor Cells Correlated with Oxidative Stress after Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

        Purpose: Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) play a key role in tissue repair and regeneration. Previous studies have shown that infusion of human umbilical cord blood-derived endothelial colony-forming cells improves outcomes in mice subjected to experimentaltraumatic brain injury (TBI). However, the efficiency of cell transplantation is not satisfactory. Oxidative stress plays a significant role in the survival of transplanted cells following ischemic reperfusion injury. This observational clinical study investigatedthe correlation between the number of circulating EPCs and plasma levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malonyldialdehyde(MDA). Materials and Methods: Peripheral blood samples were collected from 20 patients with mild TBI at day-1, day-2, day-3, day-4, and day-7 post TBI. The number of circulating EPCs and the plasma levels of SOD and MDA were measured. Results: The average of circulating EPCs in TBI patients decreased initially, but increased thereafter, compared with healthy controls. Plasma levels of SOD in TBI patients were significantly lower than those in healthy controls at day-4 post-TBI. MDA levels showed no difference between the two groups. Furthermore, when assessed on day-7 post-TBI, the circulating EPC number were correlated with the plasma levels of SOD and MDA. Conclusion: These results suggest that the number of circulating EPCs is weakly to moderately correlated with plasma levels of SOD and MDA at day-7 post-TBI, which may offer a novel antioxidant strategy for EPCs transplantation after TBI.
