Purification of Chinese herbal extract with chitosan hydrochloride: Flocculation of single impurity and flocculation mechanism

        Xiaojiao An,Yong Kang,Li Qin,Yajing Tian,Guishui Li 한국화학공학회 2017 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.34 No.6

Chitosan hydrochloride (CHC) was used for flocculation of impurities (tannin and protein) in Ma-xinggan- shi solution (MSS), which is a Chinese herbal medicine solution (CHMS). To study the flocculation mechanism, simulated solutions of pure tannin and pure protein in water flocculated by CHC were investigated. For MSS flocculation by CHC, flocculation performance was assessed in terms of suspended turbidity, impurities removal rate as well as active components retention rate. CHC showed high capability of maintaining a low turbidity over a wide range of the polymer dosage. The optimum dosage of CHC was 0.6 g/L in base of different solution turbidity, and it also demonstrated the retention rate of total soluble polysaccharide (TSP) and ephedrine reached 78.4% and 92%, respectively.

Adaptive parameter-matching method of SR algorithm for fault diagnosis of wind turbine bearing

Xiaojiao Gu,Changzheng Chen 대한기계학회 2019 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.33 No.3

The fault diagnosis of wind turbine bearings is challenging because of the heavy background noise and changes in wind speed. Stochastic resonance (SR) is an effective method of detecting fault signal from noise. However, the benefit of SR is seriously limited by the system parameters and the frequency of the input signal. A novel fault diagnosis method for wind turbine bearings, combining an adaptive SR algorithm that is based on quantum particle swarm optimization (QPSO) and frequency conversion based on frequency information exchange (FIE), is proposed. First, the frequency information of the fault characteristic signal is exchanged with the reference frequency by FIE, which can eliminate the limitation of the frequency band. Then, the SR system parameters are optimized by QPSO to avoid blind parameter selection. The signal after FIE is processed by the optimized SR system. The results of case study show that under the same input signal, the proposed method can achieve better signal-to-noise ratio and response amplitude than can the traditional double-side band modulation method and an SR method that is combined only with an optimization algorithm.

Identification by deep sequencing and profiling of conserved and novel hickory microRNAs involved in the graft process

        Xiaojiao Sima,Bo Jiang,Jia Fang,Yongqin He,Zhongxiang Fang,Saravana Kumar KM,Wei Ren,Lingling Qiu,Xiaomin Chen,Bingsong Zheng 한국식물생명공학회 2015 Plant biotechnology reports Vol.9 No.3

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a vital role in plant development and growth through negative regulation of post-transcriptional gene expression. Carya cathayensis (hickory) is an important species for dried nuts and oil in China, with high nutritional and economic value. The graft technique is an important strategy for hickory cultivation. To understand the role of miRNAs involved in the hickory graft process, we constructed three small ribonucleic acid (RNA) libraries from hickory rootstock (2 years old) and scion (1 year old) at 0, 7, and 14 days post-graft. Sequence analysis of the three libraries identified 21 conserved miRNAs belonging to 13 families, and 10 novel and 8 potentially novel miRNAs belonging to 15 families. Among these miRNAs, 12 miRNAs were differentially expressed during the graft process in hickory and twothirds were downregulated. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction validated that 14 miRNAs and their expression trends were similar to the results obtained by Solexa sequencing. Further, a total of 89 target genes for conserved and 26 target genes for novel miRNAs were predicted. This study will help in understanding the roles and regulatory modes of miRNAs involvement in the hickory graft process.

      • The Impact of Consumer Characteristics and Brand Attributes on Global Brands: A Focus on the MZ Generation in Emerging Markets

Xiaojiao Zhu,한방울,김민호 한국무역학회 2024 Journal of Korea trade Vol.28 No.1

Purpose - As emerging markets continue to expand and exert more inf luence on the global economy, it has become increasingly important to understand the attitude of consumers in these market towards global brands. In particular, Chinese consumers’ interest in foreign brands has been steadily growing, creating significant market potential for products and services perceived as global brands. Based on the theory of planned behavior, this study aims to investigate how consumer characteristics and brand attributes influence the attitudes and purchase intentions of Millennials and Gen Z consumers towards global brands. Design/Methodology - The researchers used an online questionnaire to collect data from a total of 293 Chinese MZ generation participants. To analyze the data, structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed using SPSS. Findings - The findings of this study indicate that brand attributes such as perceived brand quality and price have a greater inf luence on the attitudes and purchase intentions of MZ consumers towards global brands than individual characteristics like consumers’ cosmopolitanism, ethnocentrism, and materialism. Moreover, consumer ethnocentrism has negative impact on attitudes, while consumers’ cosmopolitanism and materialism do not show any significant effects on attitudes and purchase intentions towards global brands. Originality/value - By gaining insights into how Generation MZ consumers in emerging markets evaluate global brands, this study explores the determinant factors inf luencing consumers’ attitudes and intentions towards global brands. The findings not only enrich the international business literature but also provide practical insights for global brand managers to effectively customize their marketing strategies and enhance their brand positioning for successful entry into emerging markets.

      • Adaptive Quasi-PRD Control Method of Grid - Connected PV Inverter Under Weak Grid

        Xiaojiao Cao,Guihua Liu,Weinan Xu,Wei Wang 전력전자학회 2015 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.2015 No.6

The high grid impedance in weak grid will lead to small bandwidth of control system and poor control performance of PV inverter. To solve this problem, this paper presents a quasi-PRD control method which can increase the bandwidth and dynamic response speed of control system. At first, the quasi-PRD controller was applied to replace the traditional PI controller. Then, the two harmonic injection method was used to detect grid impedance online which would be used to adjust the controller parameters adaptively. At last, some simulation and experiments were done to verify the validity of the novel control method.

Flocculation of gelatinized starch: Flocculation performance and floc characterization

Xiaojiao An,Yong Kang,Guishui Li 한국화학공학회 2018 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.35 No.7

The removal of single macromolecules impurity is the basis study for the promotion of flocculation technology application in the Chinese herbal medicine solution purification. We applied the flocculation process to remove gelatinized starch in solution. Three types of cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM) with different charge density were used for flocculation of gelatinized starch solution. The flocculation performance was evaluated in terms of the amylose removal ratio (AMRR), the amylopectin removal ratio (APRR), total starch removal ratio (TSRR) and supernatant turbidity (ST). The flocs were characterized by sedimentation performance, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray photoelectric spectroscopy (XPS) method. The experimental results show that the flocculant CN15 has the best performance for gelatinized starch flocculation among three flocculants. According to the characterization analysis, the flocs exhibited an obvious network structure, and it is concluded that hydrogen bonding between N-H in CPAM and C-O in the starch and bridging flocculation played the essential roles in flocculation of the gelatinized starch.

Effects of dietary supplementation of glucose oxidase, catalase, or both on reproductive performance, oxidative stress, fecal microflora and apoptosis in multiparous sows

2022 Animal Bioscience Vol.35 No.1

Objective: The objective of this experiment was to investigate the effect of dietary glucose oxidase (GOD), catalase (CAT), or both supplementation on reproductive performance, oxidative stress, and apoptosis in sows. Methods: A total of 104 multiparous sows were randomly assigned to four groups (n = 26) with each group given a basal diet, basal diet plus GOD at 60 U/kg, basal diet plus CAT at 75 U/kg, and basal diet plus GOD at 60 U/kg and CAT at 75 U/kg. Sows were fed the experimental diets throughout gestation and lactation. Results: Dietary GOD supplementation increased average daily feed intake of sows and litter weight at weaning (p<0.05). Dietary CAT supplementation reduced the duration of parturition, stillbirth, and piglet mortality and increased growth performance of weaned piglets (p<0.05). Dietary GOD and CAT supplementation enhanced antioxidant enzyme activities and lessened oxidative stress product levels in plasma of sows and elevated antioxidant capacity of 14-day milk and plasma in weaned piglets (p<0.05). Dietary GOD supplementation increased fecal Lactobacillus counts and reduced Escherichia coli counts of sows (p<0.05). Compared with the basal diet, the GOD diet reduced fecal Escherichia coli counts of sows, but the addition of CAT did not reduce Escherichia coli counts in the GOD diet. Dietary GOD and CAT supplementation reduced the apoptosis rate of the liver, endometrium, and ovarian granulosa cells in sows (p<0.05). In the liver, uterus, and ovary of sows, the mRNA expression of caspase-3 and caspase-9 was downregulated by dietary GOD and CAT supplementation (p<0.05). Conclusion: Dietary GOD and CAT supplementation could improve the antioxidant capacity of sows and weaned piglets, and alleviate hepatic, ovarian and uterine apoptosis by weakening apoptosis-related gene expression. Glucose oxidase regulated fecal microflora of sows, but supplementation of CAT to GOD could weaken the inhibitory effect of GOD on fecal Escherichia coli. Acoustic signal analysis for gear fault diagnosis using a uniform circular microphone array

Chi Li,Changzheng Chen,Xiaojiao Gu 대한기계학회 2023 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.37 No.11

In this paper, a far-field acoustic signal processing method based on a uniform circular microphone array is proposed for the gear fault detection. The method takes ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) as a preprocessing approach, and the estimation of signal parameters via rotational invariance techniques (ESPRIT) is applied as the beamformer, which offers an adaptive and convenient approach to solve the serious aliasing and distortion in acoustic signals. The method greatly reduces the inherent demands for the microphone numbers and the computational load while holding a satisfying accuracy, making it more promising in practical engineering applications. Besides, aiming at the situation that gear failures cannot be judged solely by gear meshing frequencies (GMF) and sound source locations, seventeen statistical feature parameters are applied to the processed signals for the fault severity recognition, and six of them are found efficient, which provides a further reference for acoustic gear diagnosis.
