        Fermentation Characteristics and Lactic Acid Bacteria Succession of Total Mixed Ration Silages Formulated with Peach Pomace

        The objective of this study was to assess the use of peach pomace in total mixed ration (TMR) silages and clarify the differences in aerobic stability between TMR and TMR silages caused by lactic acid bacteria (LAB). The TMR were prepared using peach pomace, alfalfa hay or Leymus chinensis hay, maize meal, soybean meal, cotton meal, limestone, a vitamin-mineral supplement, and salt in a ratio of 6.0:34.0:44.4:7.0:5.0:2.5:1.0:0.1 on a dry matter (DM) basis. Fermentation quality, microbial composition, and the predominant LAB were examined during ensiling and aerobic deterioration. The results indicated that the TMR silages with peach pomace were well fermented, with low pH and high lactic acid concentrations. The aerobic stability of TMR silages were significantly higher than that of TMR. Compared with TMR silages with alfalfa hay, TMR silage with Leymus chinensis hay was much more prone to deterioration. Although the dominant LAB were not identical in TMR, the same dominant species, Lactobacillus buchneri and Pediococcus acidilactici, were found in both types of TMR silages after 56 d of ensiling, and they may play an important role in the aerobic stability of TMR silages.

        A Genetic Approach for Joint Link Scheduling and Power Control in SIC-enable Wireless Networks

        Successive interference cancellation (SIC) is an effective means of multi-packet reception to combat interference at the physical layer. We investigate the joint optimization issue of channel access and power control for capacity maximization in SIC-enabled wireless networks. We propose a new interference model to characterize the sequential detection nature of SIC. Afterward, we formulize the joint optimization problem, prove it to be a nondeterministic polynomial-time-hard problem, and propose a novel approximation approach based on the genetic algorithm (GA). Finally, we discuss the design and parameter setting of the GA approach and validate its performance through extensive simulations.

        Distributed Collision-Resolvable Medium Access Control for Wireless LANs with Interference Cancellation Support

        Medium access control is critical in wireless networks for efficient spectrum utilization. In this paper, we introduce a novel collision resolution method based on the technique of known interference cancellation, and propose a new MAC protocol named as CR-MAC, in which AP tries to decode all the collided data packets by combining partial retransmissions and known interference cancellation. As the collided transmissions are fully utilized, less retransmission is required, especially in a crowded network. The NS-2simulation and MATLAB numerical results show that, under various network settings, CR-MAC performs much better than the IEEE 802.11 DCF in terms of the aggregation throughput and the expected packet delay.

        Energy-efficient Routing in MIMO-based Mobile Ad hoc Networks with Multiplexing and Diversity Gains

        It is critical to design energy-efficient routing protocols for battery-limited mobile ad hoc networks, especially in which the energy-consuming MIMO techniques are employed. However, there are several challenges in such a design: first, it is difficult to characterize the energy consumption of a MIMO-based link; second, without a careful design, the broadcasted RREP packets, which are used in most energy-efficient routing protocols, could flood over the networks, and the destination node cannot decide when to reply the communication request; third, due to node mobility and persistent channel degradation, the selected route paths would break down frequently and hence the protocol overhead is increased further. To address these issues, in this paper, a novel Greedy Energy-Efficient Routing (GEER) protocol is proposed: (a) a generalized energy consumption model for the MIMO-based link, considering the trade-off between multiplexing and diversity gains, is derived to minimize link energy consumption and obtain the optimal transmit model; (b) a simple greedy route discovery algorithm and a novel adaptive reply strategy are adopted to speed up path setup with a reduced establishment overhead; (c) a lightweight route maintenance mechanism is introduced to adaptively rebuild the broken links. Extensive simulation results show that, in comparison with the conventional solutions, the proposed GEER protocol can significantly reduce the energy consumption by up to 68.74%.

        The compressive behavior of CFRP laminates with delamination of different shapes using numerical and experimental approaches

        Composite laminates often produce delamination due to a series of factors during the manufacture and service process. In order to research the effect of containing oblique elliptical and circular initial delamination damage on the compressive strength of composite laminates, numerical and experimental methods are used in this paper. Finite element models (FEMs) and the progressive damage subroutine USDFLD are developed to predict the damage initiation and extension behavior of the intralaminar of the laminate. Interlaminar damage is predicted based on cohesive zone models (CZM). At the same time, four compression tests containing different initial delamination damage are performed. The results show that experimental measurements of compression tests concur with the numerical predictions and validate the FEMs. The strength and stiffness of the specimens gradually decrease with the increase of the initial delamination area. It reveals that, for the compression process, the delamination damage extends from the edge of the initial damage to the surroundings. The bearing capacity of the composite laminates is mainly determined by the material properties of the fibers and matrix, rather than the initial delamination.

        Cytotoxic triterpene glycosides from the roots of Sanguisorba officinalis

        Phytochemical investigation of the ethanolextract of the roots of Sanguisorba officinalis resulted inthe isolation of three new triterpene glycosides, 3b-[(a-Larabinopyranosyl)oxy]-19a,23-dihydroxyolean-12-en-28-oicacid 28-[6-O-acetyl-b-D-glucopyranosyl] ester (1),2a,3b,19a,23-tetrahydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid 28-[6-Oacetyl-b-D-glucopyranosyl] ester (2), and 3b-[(a-L-arabinopyranosyl)oxy]-19a-hydroxyurs-12,20(30)-dien-28-oicacid 28-[6-O-acetyl-b-D-glucopyranosyl] ester (3). All thetriterpene glycosides exhibited the significant cytotoxicpotential with low IC50 values (IC50\5.0 lM) against sixtumor cell lines (MCF-7, HeLa, HepG2, SGC-7901, NCIH460,and BGC-823).

      • Continuous-Current Mode Operation of a Semi-Dual-Bridge Resonant Converter

        Originated from the dual-bridge resonant converter, a semi-dual-bridge resonant converter is proposed for unidirectional applications in this paper. The single phase-shift modulation is adopted for power regulation. It is proved that the proposed converter is capable to work in either continuous-current mode or discontinuous-current mode. Compared with the dual-bridge resonant converter with single phase-shift modulation, the high circulation energy in output bridge is eliminated and the zero-voltage switching range of all switches is extended in the proposed converter. Steady-state analysis of the converter in continuous-current mode is performed using fundamental harmonics approximation. A design example based on the analysis results is presented and then verified through both simulation and experimental test on a lab prototype converter.

        Four New Antioxidant Phenylpropanoid Glycosides from Microlepia pilosissima

        Four new phenylpropanoid glycosides, 9-O-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl]-3,4-dimethoxy-cinnamic acid (1), 9-O-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl]-4-methoxycinnamic acid (2), 9-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-3,4-dimethoxy-cinnamic acid (3), and 9-O-[6-Oacetyl-β-D-glucopyranosyl]-4-methoxy-cinnamic acid (4), together with three known compounds 9-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-4-hydroxy-cinnamic acid (5), 9-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-4-methoxycinnamic acid (6), and 9-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-3,4-dimethoxy-cinnamic acid (7) were isolated from the 70% EtOH extract of the dry fronds of Microlepia pilosissima. Their chemical structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis. Moreover, 1 and 2 exhibited comparable scavenging activities with (±)-α-tocopherol against DPPH radicals, while compounds 3-7 displayed moderate antioxidant activities.

        Cytotoxic triterpenoids from Saussurea phyllocephala

        Three new triterpenoids, 11a-hydroxy-lup-20(29)-ene-3b-palmitate (1), 28-hydroxy-20-oxo-30-norlupane-3b-palmitate (2), and 1b,11a,28-tyrihydroxy oleana-9(11),12-dien-3b-palmitate (3), together with threeknown compounds were isolated from the 95 % EtOHextract of Saussurea phyllocephala. The structures of thenew compounds were elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2DNMR (COSY, HMQC, HMBC and NOESY) analyses. Allthe triterpenoids were in vitro evaluated for their cytotoxicactivities. Compound 1–3 exhibited the significant cytotoxicactivities with low IC50 values (IC50\4.0 lM)against six tumor cell lines (MCF-7, HeLa, HepG2, SGC-7901, NCI-H460 and BGC-823).
