Background: Anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) agents, infliximab and adalimumab, are widely used in several diseases including psoriasis. The broader and prolonged use of these immunosuppressive therapies could expose patients to an increased risk of adverse reactions. Among them, dermatological complications include so called “paradoxical psoriasis” have been reported. Objectives: To identify, classify and to analyze the different cutaneous complications observed duringanti-TNF treatments in IBD patients. Methods: We assessed the cumulative incidence of anti-TNF-induced cutaneous adverse reactions in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and their riskfactors in a well defined cohort of IBD patients in Asan medical center. A total of 500 patients were identifiedand retrospectively investigated. Results: Eczematiform eruptions (n = 18, 38%) were the most common skin lesion type, followed by psoriasiform lesions (n = 13, 28%). A response to topical steroids was seen in 70% (33/47) of patients with skin lesions, and anti-TNF agents had to be discontinued in 9% (4/47). Conclusion: Diverse cutaneous adverse reactions can be observed during anti-TNF treatments. Acknowledging the possible cutaneous lesions commonly seen during anti-TNF treatments may help the dermatologist as well as the internist to deal with the cutaneous conditions with more ease. Finally, concomitant use of thiopurines may decrease the occurrence of adverse skin lesions in patients receiving anti-TNF therapy.

To investigate distribution characteristics of heavy metals in soils in the vicinity of King Sejong Station of King George Island, Antarctica, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Pb, Co, Cd, Cr, Ni and Mo contents were investigated under different distances and directions from King Sejong Station. 13 sample sites were distributed from King Sejong Station. In site 4, the Cd content was higher than that in other sites. The Cr content was the highest in site 9, and the Ni and Mn contents were high in site 12. Cu, Co and Zn were highly contained in distance 1~2 km from King Sejong Station. Cd, Cr, Ni and Mo contents were lower, whereas Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Pb and Co contents were higher than other heavy metal contents at all sites.

Background: Asymmetric small interfering RNA (asiRNA) can inhibit expression of a target gene efficiently, and can be a therapeutic option for various diseases. Androgenic alopecia (AGA) is caused by genetics and sensitivity to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which binds to androgen receptor (AR) and leads to hair loss. Objectives: To evaluate the therapeutic potential of asiRNA(AR), an asiRNA developed to silence AR gene, for the treatment of AGA. Methods: Human dermal papilla (DP) cells, C57BL/6 mice, and ex vivo human scalp tissues were stimulated with DHT with or without treatment with asiRNA(AR), and the change in expression of AR as well as other molecules implicated in hair growth were evaluated. Also, the mean diameter of hair bulb and the proportions of telogen hair in ex vivo scalp tissues were determined after exposure to DHT with or without asiRNA(AR). Results: After treatment with asiRNA(AR) in DP cells, no significant toxicity was observed, and the expression of AR was downregulated. Also, treatment with asiRNA(AR) attenuated DHT-induced increase in IL-6, TGFβ1, and DKK1. In the asiRNA(AR)-treated group, the proportion of telogen hair was lower, and the mean hair bulb diameter was thicker than the control stimulated with DHT only. Local injection of asiRNA(AR) in DHT-induced mice resulted in hair growth promotion. Conclusion: Downregulation of AR expression and prevention of DHT-induced changes could be achieved with asiRNA(AR). Thus, it could be a therapeutic option for AGA.

In this paper, we report the implementation of alternating-direction-implicit (ADI) nite-dierence time-domain (FDTD)method for modeling and simulation of VLSI interconnects in order to resolve the limitation of CourantFriedrichLevy (CFL)stability condition. It is revealed that the ADI-FDTD simulation approach is promising for understanding the electromagneticphenomena of the VLSI interconnects. The amount of signal distortion as well as cross-talks between the parallel and cross-overinterconnects has been calculated. For instance, signal distortion of 0.30.6 V with clock distortion of 0.20.4 V are measured fortwo parallel lines with 1l m spacing..

In this work, we explore the feasibility of roll-pitch-yaw integrated autopilots for high angle-of-attack missiles. An investigation of the aerodynamic characteristics of a surface-to-air missile is presented, which reveals the strong effects of cross coupling between the longitudinal and lateral dynamics. Robust control techniques based on $H_{\infty}$ synthesis are employed to design roll-pitch-yaw integrated autopilots. The performance of the proposed roll-pitch-yaw integrated controller is tested in high-fidelity nonlinear five-degree-of-freedom simulations accounting for kinematic cross-coupling effects between the lateral and longitudinal channels. Against nonlinearity and cross-coupling effects of the missile dynamics, the integrated controller demonstrates superior performance when compared with the controller designed in a decoupled manner.
MCP-1/CCR2 effect on melanocyte proliferation and senescence of keratinocytes in solar lentigo

Background: The effects of the monocyte chemoattractant-1 (MCP-1) on keratinocytes and melanocytes, which are the key cells in the development of seline lentigo, and on their senescence are not yet understood. Objectives: To investigate the effect of MCP-1, the most well-known chemokine associated with senescence associated secretory phenotype (SASP) on melanin production and cellular senescence of both melanocytes and keratinocytes, on the pathogenesis of senile lentigo. Methods: We investigated whether MCP-1 affects melanin production and cellular senescence of melanocytes andkeratinocytes in vitro as well as in senile lentigo on human skin. Cell viability assay and melanin content assay were carried out; additional immunohistochemistry, senescence-associated beta-galactosidase (SA-モ-Gal) staining and Western blotting were performed to quantify the effects of MCP-1.Results: In melanocytes, when MCP-1/CCR2 were activated, they showed proliferation with modest increase of melanogenesis. SA-モ-gal activity was increased in keratinocytes by MCP-1 treatment in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, the changes in the expression of senescence markers when treated with MCP-1 suggested that MCP-1 induce the senescence of melanocytes and keratinocytes. Conclusion: This study suggests that MCP-1 could have a role as an inflammation-associated paracrine chemokine inducing senescence of melanocytes and keratinocytes in the development of senile lentigo.

<P>CYP2C19 loss-of-function (LOF) alleles adversely affect clinical outcome of clopidogrel therapy. Recent introduction of a newer-generation drug-eluting stent (DES) has significantly reduced the occurrence of stent thrombosis.The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of CYP2C19 LOF alleles on clinical outcome in patients treated with the newer-generation DES.The effects of CYP2C19 genotypes were evaluated on clinical outcome of clopidogrel therapy in 2062 patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention using either first-generation DES (sirolimus- and paclitaxel-eluting stent, n = 1349) or newer-generation DES (everolimus- and zotarolimus-eluting stent, n = 713). The primary clinical outcome was major cardiac and cerebrovascular event (MACCE) including cardiac death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, stroke, and stent thrombosis during 1 year of follow-up.CYP2C19 LOF alleles were significantly associated with a higher risk of MACCE in patients treated with first-generation DES (hazard ratio [HR] 2.599, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.047-6.453; P = 0.034). In contrast, CYP2C19 LOF alleles were not associated with primary outcome in newer-generation DES (HR 0.716, 95% CI 0.316-1.622; P = 0.522). In the further multivariate analysis, CYP2C19 LOF alleles were not associated with MACCE in patients receiving newer-generation DES (adjusted HR 0.540, 95% CI 0.226-1.291; P = 0.166), whereas they were demonstrated to be an independent risk factor for MACCE in those implanted with first-generation DES (adjusted HR 3.501, 95% CI 1.194-10.262; P = 0.022).In contradiction to their clinical impact in first-generation DES era, CYP2C19 LOF alleles may not affect clinical outcome of clopidogrel therapy in patients treated with newer-generation DES.</P>
