In plants, eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1B (eEF1B) is composed of three subunits, eEF1Bα, eEF1Bβ and eEF1B γ. Two subunits are nucleotide exchange subunits (eEF1Bα and eEF1Bβ) and one is a structural protein (eEF1Bγ). In the previous study, eEF1B was identified as a common host factor for several RNA viruses. To test which subunit of eEF1B is essential for Potato virus X (PVX) replication, the virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) for eEF1Bα, β or γ was performed in Nicotiana benthamiana and green fluorescent protein (GFP)-tagged PVX was inoculated. PVX-GFP accumulation was decreased when eEF1Bβ or γ subunit was silenced, whereas eEF1Bα had no effect on PVX-GFP accumulation in inoculated leaves. Targeting induced local lesions in genome (TILLING) was performed using a Capsicum annuum EMS population to test whether mutations in eEF1Bβ subunit affect virus infection in pepper. We obtained 81 eEF1Bβ mutant lines consisted of 16,759 individuals. These mutant lines are being tested to validate the function of eEF1B β in PVX replication.
The Change of Ultrasonic Transmission Velocity by Wood Decay

The deterioration in wood by the brown-rot fungus (Fomitopsispalustris) and the white-rot fungus (Trametesversicolor) were measured using ultrasonic velocity. Those were used for the decay exposure and 4 wood species of wood as the test specimens, Pinusdensiflora, Larixkaempferi, Pinuskoraiensis and Pinusrigida, were chosen with both the brown- and white-rot culture petridish during 12 weeks. After 12 weeks, the decrease rate of ultrasonic velocity was measured at 10∼15%. In both brown-and white-rot exposure experiments, P. rigida showed significant decrease in ultrasonic velocity (20%), L. kaempferi on the other hand did not show decrease in ultrasonic velocity. After the fungal exposure experi-ment, the inside of specimens was investigated by computer tomography (C/T). After C/T investigation, bending tests were performed.

A resorbable barrier membrane is commonly used for the repair of perforated sinus membranes during sinus lifting surgeries. However, repairing largescale perforations poses challenges for clinicians as the protection and isolation of graft material remain uncertain. With this technique, we aimed to prevent graft material loss and subsequent sinus-related complications using intra-sinus rigid fixation of the resorbable barrier membrane in cases with a large perforation of the sinus membrane.

We cloned and expressed human pyridoxal-5'-phosphate (PLP) phosphatase, the coenzymatically active form of vitamin $B_6$, in Escherichia coli using pET15b vector. Monoclonal antibodies (mAb) were generated against purified human brain PLP phosphatase in mice, and four antibodies recognizing different epitopes were obtained, one of which inhibited PLP phosphatase. The binding affinities of these four mAbs to PLP phosphatase, as determined using biosensor technology, showed that they had similar binding affinities. Using the anti-PLP phosphatase antibodies as probes, we investigated their cross-reactivities in various mammalian and human tissues and cell lines. The immunoreactive bands obtained on Western blots had molecular masses of ca. 33 kDa. Similarly fractionated extracts of several mammalian cell lines all produced a single band of molecular mass 33 kDa. We believe that these PLP phosphatase mAbs could be used as valuable immunodiagnostic reagents for the detection, identification, and characterization of various neurological diseases related to vitamin $B_6$ abnormalities.

Hot carrier degradation and roll off characteristics of threshold voltage ($V_{t1}$) on NMOSFETs as I/O transistor are studied as a function of Lightly Doped Drain (LDD) structures. Pocket dose and the combination of Phosphorus (P) and Arsenic (As) dose are applied to control $V_{t1}$ roll off down to the $10\%$ gate length margin. It was seen that the relationship between $V_{t1}$ roll off characteristic and substrate current depends on P dopant dose. For the first time, we found that the n-p-n transistor triggering voltage ($V_{t1}$) depends on drain current, and both $I_{t2}$ and snapback holding voltage ($V_{sp}$) depend on the substrate current by characterization with a transmission line pulse generator. Also it was found that the improved lifetime for hot carrier stress could be obtained by controlling the P dose as loosing the $V_{t1}$ roll off margin. This study suggests that the trade-off characteristic between gate length margin and channel hot carrier (CHC) lifetime in NMOSFETs should be determined by considering Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) characteristic.

<P>This study was performed to investigate the significance of gastric juice analysis (GJA) as a diagnostic criterion of a positive challenge in a standard oral cow's milk challenge (OCC) to confirm typical cow's milk protein-induced enterocolitis (CMPIE). Data from 16 CMPIE patients (aged 14 to 44 days) were analyzed. A standard OCC was openly executed using 0.15 g/kg of protein. Three symptoms (vomiting, lethargy, and bloody or pus-like stool), and four laboratory findings (GJA [3 hr], changes in peripheral blood absolute neutrophil count [ANC] [6 hr], C-reactive protein [6 hr], and stool smear test for occult blood or leukocytes) were observed after OCC. Before OCC, baseline studies were conducted; a stool smear test, blood sampling, and GJA. Positive OCC results were; vomiting (87.5%) (observed 1-3 hr after OCC), lethargy (62.5%) (1-3 hr), bloody or pus-like stool (43.8%) (6-10 hr), abnormal GJA (93.8%), an ANC rise >3,500 cells/µL (93.8%), and an abnormal stool smear test (75.0%). A single GJA test after a standard OCC is a sensitive diagnostic criterion of a positive challenge, and may provide an early confirmatory diagnosis of CMPIE. An investigation of positive OCC outcomes helps to find out a diagnostic algorithm of criteria of a positive challenge in CMPIE.</P>
