In this communication, we present a significant method to fabricate a robust icephobic surface on a flexible polymer substrate. The flexible functional surface is obtained by integrating both soft-lithography and crystal growth methods. Modified by the materials with low surface free energy, the composite surface exhibits a robust superhydrophobicity at not only room temperature but also low temperature. After freezing test, the surface can recover to its original function quickly, which has achieved the level for industrial application, and also performed significant role for enhancing the icephobic theories.
Group-Sparse Channel Estimation using Bayesian Matching Pursuit for OFDM Systems

We apply the Bayesian matching pursuit (BMP) algorithm to the estimation of time-frequency selective channels in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. By exploiting prior statistics and sparse characteristics of propagation channels, the Bayesian method provides a more accurate and efficient detection of the channel status information (CSI) than do conventional sparse channel estimation methods that are based on compressive sensing (CS) technologies. Using a reasonable approximation of the system model and a skillfully designed pilot arrangement, the proposed estimation scheme is able to address the Doppler-induced inter-carrier interference (ICI) with a relatively low complexity. Moreover, to further reduce the computational cost of the channel estimation, we make some modifications to the BMP algorithm. The modified algorithm can make good use of the group-sparse structure of doubly selective channels and thus reconstruct the CSI more efficiently than does the original BMP algorithm, which treats the sparse signals in the conventional manner and ignores the specific structure of their sparsity patterns. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed Bayesian estimation has a good performance over rapidly time-varying channels.

Background/Aims: Total proctocolectomy with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA) is widely accepted as a radical surgery for refractory ulcerative colitis (UC). Definite results on the appropriate pouch length for an evaluation of the risk-to-benefit ratio regarding technical complications and long-term quality of life (QOL) are still scarce. Methods: Data on UC patients who underwent IPAA from 2008 to 2022 in four well-established pouch centers affiliated to China UC Pouch Center Union were collected. Results: A total of 208 patients with a median follow-up time of 6.0 years (interquartile range, 2.3 to 9.0 years) were enrolled. The median lengths of the patients’ short and long pouches were 14.0 cm (interquartile range, 14.0 to 15.0 cm) and 22.0 cm (interquartile range, 20.0 to 24.0 cm), respectively. Patients with a short J pouch configuration were less likely to achieve significantly improved long-term QOL (p=0.015) and were prone to develop late postoperative complications (p=0.042), such as increased defecation frequency (p=0.003) and pouchitis (p=0.035). A short ileal pouch was an independent risk factor for the development of late postoperative complications (odds ratio, 3.100; 95% confidence interval, 1.519 to 6.329; p=0.002) and impaired long-term QOL improvement (odds ratio, 2.221; 95% confidence interval, 1.218 to 4.050, p=0.009). Conclusions: The length of the J pouch was associated with the improvement in long-term QOL and the development of late post-IPAA complications. A long J pouch configuration could be a considerable surgical option for pouch construction.

The Ti/TiBCN composite coatings were fabricated on the substrate of Ti6Al4V alloy by laser cladding. The effects of TiBCNcontent on the microstructre, microhardness, corrosion resistance and tribological properties of the composite coatings werestudied. The results showed that, when the TiBCN content was 60 wt%, the composite coatings were mainly composed ofthe dendritic and rod-shaped TiBCN phases, small white lump TiC phases, fine lamellar TiN phases, small and scatteredwhite block TiB2phases, In addition, there was a small quantity of short whisker Al3Tiphases and uniform layer blockTiAl phases. Furhtermore, the maximum microhardness was 1596 HV, which was about 4.6 folds greater than that of thesubstrate; the corrosion potential (Ecorr) reached − 1.258 V and the corrosion current density (Icorr) was 4.035 × 10−5 A/cm2,which was one order lower than that of the substrate (1.172 × 10−4 A/cm2); the worn surface was relatively smooth and themass loss (1.22 g) was only 9/50 of that of the substrate (6.71 g).
