Crystallization and Luminescence Properties of Polypropylene Fiber Containing Rare Earth Aluminates and a Sorbital Derivative Nucleating Agent

        Wei-Jen Lai,Kuo-Chung Cheng 한국섬유공학회 2018 Fibers and polymers Vol.19 No.1

Polypropylene (PP) fibers with a sorbital derivative nucleating agent (SDN) and rare earth aluminates (SrAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+) were prepared via melt compounding and melt-spinning. Non-isothermal crystallization kinetics and luminescence properties of PP and luminous PP fibers were studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized optical microscopy (POM), and decay of the afterglow test. The crystallization temperature determined by DSC increasedwith the addition of the nucleating agent during the cooling process from 200 oC. The Jeziorny model successfully described the non-isothermal crystallization behavior of the luminous PP with various SDN contents. The crystal grain size and morphology of the sample with the SDN was different from that without nucleating agent. The luminous PP fabric having high initial brightness intensity, approximately 461 mcd g-1m-2, can be prepared with addition of 10 wt% of rare earthaluminates and 0.5 % of SDN.

      • Efficacy and Safety of Ombitasvir/Paritaprevir/Ritonavir and Dasabuvir in Non-Cirrhotic Asian Patients with Genotype 1b HCV Infection: ONYX-I SVR24 Results

        ( Lai Wei ),( Jinlin Hou ),( Yan Luo ),( Jeong Heo ),( Chi-jen Chu ),( Zhongping Duan ),( Mong Cho ),( Jun Cheng ),( Jun Li ),( Jidong Jia ),( Wenjing Lu ),( Linda M Fredrick ),( Tami Pilot-matias ),( 대한간학회 2017 춘·추계 학술대회 (KASL) Vol.2017 No.1

Aims: HCV genotype 1b is the most common genotype in Asian patients. ONYX-I is a phase 3, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of the 3-DAA regimen of OBV/PTV/r and DSV in treatment- naive and treatment-experienced non-cirrhotic patients with HCV GT1b infection in China, South Korea and Taiwan. Methods: In this study, the safety/efficacy of OBV/PTV/r + DSV administered for 12 weeks were evaluated in non-cirrhotic Asian patients. Patients in Arm A received active study drug during a 12-week double-blind (DB) period, while patients in Arm B received placebo during the same period followed by an open-label (OL) period in which they received 12 weeks of active study drug. Efficacy was assessed by SVR12 and SVR24. Efficacy and safety were assessed in all patients who received at least one dose of active study drugs. Results: 650 HCV GT1b patients (54% female, 100% Asian, 44% treatment-experienced) were enrolled from China (n=410) South Korea (n=120) and Taiwan (n=120), and randomised 1:1 to Arms A and B. In Arm A, SVR12 and SVR24 rates were 99.5% (183/184) in treatment-naive patients and 100% (141/141) in treatment- experienced patients. Most treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) in patients receiving the active drug were mild in severity. The most common (≥5%) TEAEs in Arm A were upper respiratory tract infection (10.5%), headache (6.2%) and dizziness (5.2%). Seven patients had serious AEs during active treatment (Arm A) and one patient in Arm A discontinued treatment. Conclusions: In non-cirrhotic Asian adults with HCV GT1b-infection, treated with OBV/PTV/r + DSV for 12 weeks, SVR24 rates equalled previously reported SVR12 rates from this study (99.5% of treatment- naive and 100% of treatment-experienced patients), and are consistent with other clinical trials with this drug combination. The treatment was generally well tolerated with mostly mild TEAEs reported.

      • Efficacy/Safety of Ombitasvir/Paritaprevir/Ritonavir and Dasabuvir with Ribavirin in Asian Patients with Genotype 1b HCV-Infected, Compensated Cirrhosis: ONYX-II SVR 24 Results

        ( Lai Wei ),( Gui-qiang Wang ),( Yan Luo ),( Chi-jen Chu ),( Seung Woon Paik ),( Jinlin Hou ),( Jun Cheng ),( Qing Xie ),( Zhongping Duan ),( Jia-horng Kao ),( Linda Fredrick ),( Bo Fu ),( Niloufar Mo 대한간학회 2017 춘·추계 학술대회 (KASL) Vol.2017 No.1

Aims: ONYX-II is a phase 3, open-label study of 3-DAA regimen of OBV/PTV/r and DSV with RBV in treatment-naive and experienced patients with genotype 1b HCV infection and compensated cirrhosis in China, South Korea and Taiwan. SVR12 rate was 100% and the favourable safety profile was shown. The present analysis reports efficacy( SVR24) and safety results. Methods: Patients with chronic GT1b HCV infection and compensated cirrhosis received OBV/PTV/r + DSV + RBV for 12 weeks and will be followed for 48 weeks post-treatment. Efficacy was assessed by SVR12 and SVR24. Safety was assessed as the percentage of patients wi th treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) and laboratory evaluation. Results: Total of 104 patients with chronic GT1b HCV infection (62% female, 100% Asian, 58% treatment-experienced) were enrolled from China (n=63), South Korea (n=21) and Taiwan (n=20). All patients received at least one dose of study drugs. The SVR24 rate was 100% (concordant with SVR12), with no patient relapsing between post-treatment week 12 and 24. Most TEAEs were mild in severity. The most common TEAEs (≥10%) were increased blood bilirubin levels (25%), pruritus (15%), anaemia (14%), asthenia (12%), bilirubin conjugated increased (12%), blood bilirubin unconjugated increased (12%), dizziness (11%) and fatigue (11%). Four patients had serious AEs and all were assessed as not being related to the 3-DAA regimen (one was assessed as being possibly related to RBV). One patient discontinued treatment due to TEAEs (elevations in alanine aminotransferase [ALT], aspartate aminotransferase [AST] and blood bilirubin) after 3 weeks of dosing but achieved SVR12 and SVR24. Laboratory abnormalities ≥ grade 3 were infrequent (ALT: 3%; AST 2%; total bilirubin: 7%). No grade 3 haemoglobin decrease was reported. Conclusions: SVR24 and SVR12 rates were concordant (100%) in HCV GT1b-infected Asian patients with compensated cirrhosis. The regimen was generally well tolerated with mostly mild TEAEs reported.

      • The long-term anatomical and visual effect of intravitreal triamcinolone injection during vitrectomy for the treatment of idiopathic macular epiretinal membrane

        Lai, Chi-Chun,Wang, Nan-Kai,Wu, Wei-Chi,Yeung, Ling,Hwang, Yih-Shiou,Chen, Kuan-Jen,Chen, Tun-Lu,Chuang, Lan-Hsin Informa Healthcare 2011 Cutaneous and ocular toxicology Vol.30 No.4

<P><I>Purpose</I>: To compare the long-term anatomical and visual outcomes of patients with idiopathic epiretinal membrane (ERM) removed by vitrectomy and membrane peeling with or without the use of intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide (IVTA).</P><P><I>Methods</I>: A retrospective chart review was performed. Subjects who underwent vitrectomy and who were followed over 12 months were included. The study included two groups of patients. In group 1 (71 eyes), the patients underwent vitrectomy and membrane peeling without the use of IVTA. In group 2 (27 eyes), 2 mg of IVTA was given at the end of the surgery. The main outcome measures were best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central foveal thickness (CFT) determined by optical coherence tomography (OCT), the number of cataract surgeries, and the use of anti-glaucomatous drugs during the follow-up period.</P><P><I>Results</I>: This study included 98 eyes with ERM from 98 patients. There was no significant difference between the two groups with respect to age, gender, pre- and postoperative lens status, BCVA, CFT, or length of the follow-up period. The mean age for all of the patients was 62.45 ± 10.01 (mean ± SD) years, and the mean follow-up length was 20.58 ± 9.64 (mean ± SD) months. In all cases, the mean best-corrected logarithm of minimum angle of resolution (logMAR) acuity improved from a preoperative value of 0.91 ± 0.32 [Snellen equivalent (SE), 0.16 ± 0.14] to a postoperative value of 0.46 ± 0.36 (SE, 0.46 ± 0.29) (<I>P</I> < 0.0001). The CFT was reduced from a preoperative value of 473.46 ± 96.91 μm to a postoperative value of 302.44 ± 69.80 μm (<I>P</I> < 0.0001). Six patients (22.2%) in group 2 required anti-glaucomatous drugs to control intraocular pressure (IOP) during the follow-up period, and three patients (4.2%) in group 1 required drugs to control IOP (<I>P</I> == 0.012).</P><P><I>Conclusions</I>: The postoperative visual outcomes for patients with idiopathic ERM were favorable, but CFT did not return to a normal level, even in eyes in which 2 mg IVTA was used. The IVTA use after ERM removal produced no significant benefits during long-term follow-up, but IVTA did increase the risk of increased IOP.</P>

      • Poster Session : PS 0088 ; Cardiology : Paradoxical Stroke after Complex Coronary Intervention in a Patient with End-Stage Renal Disease

( Cheng Wei Liu ),( Jen Kuang Lee ),( Yen Jun Lai ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

The 75-year-old man underwent percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI) for atherosclerosis coronary artery disease. He had end-staged renal disease with maintenance hemodialysis. Right hemiparesis developed ten hours after the procedure. A computed tomography (CT) of brain demonstrated a hyperdense sucal or cortial lesion in the left frontal lobe (Figure 1). This image fi nding suggested subarachnoid hemorrhage. Dual antiplatelet agents (DAPT) were disrupted transiently. A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of brain showed high signal in the left precentral gyrus in diffusion weighted imaging (Figure 2) with corresponding hypointensity in apparent diffusion coeffi ciency imaging (Figure 3), suggestive of an acute infarct. After appropriate treatment for acute ischemic stroke and resuming DAPT immediately, he was discharged uneventfully a week later. Disruption of DAPT signifi cantly increased major cardiovascular events after PCI, especially within 7 days (1). In patients with neurological defi cits after coronary intervention is performed, urgent MRI is necessary to differentiate hemorrhagic strokes from ischemic insults with contrast extravasations from the damaged brainblood barrier. Minimizing window period of DAPT is emphasized in patients with suspicious paradoxical stroke. Reference 1. Mehran R, Baber U, Steg PG, et al. Predatory efficacy of Orius strigicollis (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) against Tetranychus urticae (Acarina: Tetranychidae) on strawberry

        Shu-Jen Tuan,Yung-Hsiang Lin,Shu-Chen Peng,Wei-Han Lai 한국응용곤충학회 2016 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.19 No.1

In this study, the predatory efficacy of Orius strigicollis (Poppius), a predacious flower bug, against the twospotted spider mite (TSSM), Tetranychus urticae Koch, on strawberry (Fragaria ananassa) was investigated. Our results showed that release of 2, 4, 6, and 12 neonates of O. strigicollis per strawberry plant could suppress 58.9, 72.6, 88.6, and 92.8% of T. urticae, respectively, at 14 days after treatment. A single release of 12 neonate bugs per plant achieved and maintained, over a period of 3 months, 82% to 98% control of T. urticae population. A biweekly release of 6 neonate bugs per plant; likewise, suppressed ca. 90% of T. urticae population throughout the same period. However, predatory efficacy was reduced by an over-release of predators which may cause cannibalism as well as lower possibility of finding prey. Since the released neonates survived well to adults with offspring that retained their predatory ability, this study has demonstrated that O. strigicollis is a predatorwith good potential for sustainable suppression of T. urticae on strawberry, and one application of O. strigicollis neonates at a predator:prey ratio of 1:200 egg plus motile TSSM or 1:60 motiles per strawberry plant promises a season-long control and substantial management of spider mite infestation.

      • Shear Mode Piezoelectric Ceramic Printhead Array Design

( Shih Wun Huang ),( Yeoung Jen Wu ),( Wei Hsiang Lai ) 한국액체미립화학회 2005 한국액체미립화학회 학술강연회 논문집 Vol.2005 No.-

This paper starts with an overview of different kind of piezoelectric drop-on-demand inkjet printhead, then focus on particular Xaar-type piezoelectric shear mode inkjet printhead which have higher density of print channel than other piezoelectric printhead types. Detail fabrication processes are described and the simulation of the operation condition is also carried out. The ink channels formed by MEMS wafer-cutting technology and the electrodes are coated on both upper half side of the actuator walls. Finite element analysis software ANSYS is used to simulate the strain, stress dispersion under different boundary condition when the external voltage is applied. The results show that there is a linear relationship between the applied voltage and the wall cross section area changes. In the simulation of the relationship between electrodes cover length and the cross section area change of ink channel, it is found that the quantity of ink channel cross section area change increases significantly as the electrode cover length is over 55%-60% height of actuator wall.

Thermal effect of high-velocity particle impingements on coating quality in cold gas dynamic spray operations

        Si-Jia Dong,Jian Ye,Lin Zhu,Li Guo,Peter Jusu Moray,Wei-Lai Liu,Jun Sun,Tien-Chien Jen 대한기계학회 2022 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.36 No.7

This investigation is aimed to evaluate thermal effects of the high-velocity particle impingement on the coating quality in CGDS (cold gas dynamic spray). To achieve this, the authors used an explicit time integration approach to predict interface temperatures and deformation profiles of the substrate, as well as, their relationship in commercial solver ABAQUS 6.13. Copper (Cu) and aluminum (Al) materials were specified to particle and substrate, respectively. Two essential process parameters, including six different impact velocities (300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800 m/s) and three different particle sizes (1, 5, 15 μm), were involved in all simulations. There are very good agreements between the simulated and the published that the non-uniform interface temperature and the poor/failure particle deposition have the direct relationship with either impact velocity or particle size. Once again this study strongly demonstrates the thermal effect of the high-velocity particle impingement on coating quality in CGDS, in turn providing insights into process parameter selection.

Risk of Diabetic Retinopathy between Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter-2 Inhibitors and Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists

        Tzu-Yi Lin,Eugene Yu-Chuan Kang,Shih-Chieh Shao,Edward Chia-Cheng Lai,Sunir J. Garg,Kuan-Jen Chen,Je-Ho Kang,Wei-Chi Wu,Chi-Chun Lai,Yih-Shiou Hwang 대한당뇨병학회 2023 Diabetes and Metabolism Journal Vol.47 No.3

Background: To compare risk of diabetic retinopathy (DR) between patients taking sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) and those taking glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP1-RAs) in routine care. Methods: This retrospective cohort study emulating a target trial included patient data from the multi-institutional Chang Gung Research Database in Taiwan. Totally, 33,021 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus using SGLT2is and GLP1-RAs between 2016 and 2019 were identified. 3,249 patients were excluded due to missing demographics, age <40 years, prior use of any study drug, a diagnosis of retinal disorders, a history of receiving vitreoretinal procedure, no baseline glycosylated hemoglobin, or no follow-up data. Baseline characteristics were balanced using inverse probability of treatment weighting with propensity scores. DR diagnoses and vitreoretinal interventions served as the primary outcomes. Occurrence of proliferative DR and DR receiving vitreoretinal interventions were regarded as vision-threatening DR.Results: There were 21,491 SGLT2i and 1,887 GLP1-RA users included for the analysis. Patients receiving SGLT2is and GLP-1 RAs exhibited comparable rate of any DR (subdistribution hazard ratio [SHR], 0.90; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.79 to 1.03), whereas the rate of proliferative DR (SHR, 0.53; 95% CI, 0.42 to 0.68) was significantly lower in the SGLT2i group. Also, SGLT2i users showed significantly reduced risk of composite surgical outcome (SHR, 0.58; 95% CI, 0.48 to 0.70).Conclusion: Compared to those taking GLP1-RAs, patients receiving SGLT2is had a lower risk of proliferative DR and vitreoretinal interventions, although the rate of any DR was comparable between the SGLT2i and GLP1-RA groups. Thus, SGLT2is may be associated with a lower risk of vision-threatening DR but not DR development.
