<P>Many natural products have been shown to have an inhibitory effect on nitric oxide (NO), and are used as chemotherapy agents for inflammation disease. The current study was designed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of chemical components from the leaves of Ampelopsis cantoniensis. Sixteen compounds (1-16) were isolated and identified. Phloretin (5) and 5,7,3',5'-tetrahydroxyflavanone (16) inhibited nitric oxide (NO) production with IC50 values of 5.2, and 18.5 μM, respectively. The inhibitory effect of compounds 5 and 16 were accompanied by dose-dependent decreases in LPS-induced nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in RAW 264.7 cells, respectively. This study investigated the significant anti-inflammatory properties of isolated compounds from the leaves of A. cantoniensis for the first time. The findings demonstrate that A. cantoniensis could be used beneficially in the treatment of inflammation disease.</P>

With a view to improving the mechanical properties of coatings applied in the field of cutting tools and machine parts, the TiAlBN coatings were deposited by using direction-current (dc) magnetron sputtering with the various contents of nitrogen gas in an argon-nitrogen gas mixture. The structural characteristics of the coatings were determined by using X-ray diffraction, the friction coefficient, and the hardness and elastic modulus of the coatings were investigated by using a tribometer and nano-indentation. The surface morphologies and the roughnesses of the coatings were analyzed by using field emission scaning electron microscopy (FESEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Additionally, the effects of nitrogen gas flow on the properties of the TiAlBN coatings were investigated. The structural characterization results revealed a typical face-centered cubic TiN structure with (111), (220), and (222) diffraction peaks. The strongest intensity in the (111) orientation was obtained for the coating prepared at a nitrogen gas flow of 4 sccm. For this kind of samples were obtained the highest values of the hardness and the stability, a low friction coefficient, and a smooth surface.
Flicker Suppression Scheme for Variable-Speed Wind Turbine Systems
Van, Tan Luong,Nguyen, Thanh Hai,Lee, Dong-Choon The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2012 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.12 No.2
This paper proposes a strategy of flicker mitigation for doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) wind turbine systems. In the weak grid system where the grid impedance ratio is low, the reactive power compensation only cannot suppress the flicker sufficiently due to the limited power capacity of the converters or the DFIG. For the full suppression of flickers, the active power smoothening using the energy storage system (ESS) needs to be utilized together with the reactive power compensation. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by PSCAD/EMTDC simulation results for a 2[MW] DFIG wind turbine system and by experimental results for a 3[kW] wind turbine simulator.

Ternary Bi-31.5Sn-25.0In solder has been proposed and studied forapplication in temperature-sensitive electronic components. In a Bi-31.5Sn-25.0In solder joint, In was detected in an intermetallic compound (IMC)layer formed at the solder/Cu substrate interface with a thickness of 4.8 μm. The microstructure of the bulk solder consisted of Sn-rich phases distributedin Bi-rich phases with dispersion of In in both phases. Meanwhile, thenanomechanical properties of the Bi-31.5Sn-25.0In solder showed greatstrain rate sensitivity. To be specific, hardness increased from 9.91 MPa to56.84 MPa as the strain rate increased in the range of (0.0005-0.125) s−1. Thestrain-rate sensitivity exponent (m) was found to be 0.28, indicating that theexcellent ductility was shown for the solder tested under the presentconditions.

Red-emitting nitride phosphors recently attracted considerable attention because of their high thermal stability and high color rendering index properties. For excellent phosphor of white light-emitting-diode, ternary nitride phosphor of Sr/SmSi5N8:Eu2+ with different Eu2+ ion concentration were synthesized by solid state reaction method. In this work, red-emitting nitride Sr/SmSi5N8:Eu2+ phosphor was successfully synthesized by using multi-step high frequency induction heat treatment. The effects of molar ratio of component and experimental conditions on luminescence property of prepared phosphors have been investigated. The structure and luminescence properties of prepared Sr/SmSi5N8:Eu2+ phosphors were investigated by XRD and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The excitation spectra of Sr/SmSi5N8:Eu2+ phosphors indicated broad excitation wavelength range of 300 - 550 nm, namely from UV to visible area with distinct enhanced emission peaks. With an increase of Eu2+ ion concentration, the peak position of emission in spectra was red-shifted from 613 to 671 nm. After via multi-step heat treatment, prepared phosphor showed excellent luminescence properties, such as high emission intensity and low thermal quenching, better than commercial phosphor of Y3Al5O12:Ce3+. Using Eu₂O₃ as a raw material for Eu2+dopant with nitrogen gas flowing instead of using commercial EuN chemical for Sr/SmSi5N8:Eu2+ synthesis is one of characteristic of this work.
A Low Complexity H.264/AVC Deblocking Filter with Simplified Filtering Boundary Strength Decision
VAN, Luong Pham,LEE, Hoyoung,KIM, Jaehwan,JEON, Byeungwoo 'Institute of Electronics, Information and Communi 2013 IEICE transactions on fundamentals of electronics, Vol.ea96 No.2
<P>Blocking artifacts are introduced in many block-based coding systems, and its reduction can significantly improve the subjective quality of compressed video. The H.264/AVC uses an in-loop deblocking filter to remove the blocking artifacts. The filter considers some coding conditions in its adaptive deblocking filtering such as coded block pattern (CBP), motion vector, macroblock type, etc. for inter-predicted blocks, however, it does not consider much for intra-coded blocks. In this paper, we utilize the human visual system (HVS) characteristic and the local characteristic of image blocks to modify the boundary strength (BS) of the intra-deblocking filter in order to gain improvement in the subjective quality and also to reduce the complexity in filtering Ultra coded slices. In addition, we propose a low-complexity deblocking method which utilizes the correlation between vertical and horizontal boundaries of a block in inter coded slices. Experimental results show that our proposed method achieves not only significant gain in the subjective quality but also some PSNR gain, and reduces the computational complexity of the deblocking filter by 36.23% on average.</P>

To fabricate white LED having a high color rendering index value, red color phosphor mixed with the green color phosphor together in the blue chip, namely the blue chips with RG phosphors packaging is most favorable for high power white LEDs. In our previous papers, we reported on successful syntheses of Sr₂-Si5N8:Eu2+ and CaAlSiN₃ phosphors for red phosphor. In this work, for high power green phosphor, greenemitting ternary nitride Ba₃Si6O12N₂:Eu2+ phosphor was synthesized in a high frequency induction furnace under N₂ gas atmosphere at temperatures up to 1400℃ using EuF₃ as a raw material for Eu2+dopant. The effects of molar ratio of component and experimental conditions on luminescence property of prepared phosphors have been investigated. The structure and luminescence properties of prepared Ba₃Si6O12N₂:Eu2+ phosphors were investigated by XRD and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The excitation spectra of Ba₃Si6O12N₂:Eu2+ phosphors indicated broad excitation wavelength range of 250 - 500 nm, namely from UV to blue region with distinct enhanced emission spectrum peaking at ≈ 530 nm.
