Maximally repeated sub-patterns of a point set
Vol.32 No.2
We answer a question raised by P. Brass on the number of maximally repeated sub-patterns in a set of n points in Rd. We show that this number, which was conjectured to be polynomial, is in fact Θ (2n/2) in the worst case, regardless of the dimension d.
Automated Guided Vehicle Controlled by Li-Fi: A Study Case

Some Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) currently use bidirectional infrared (IR) laser communication to control their tasks in industrial facilities. Laser technology’s disadvantage is the need for tight alignment between the transmitter’s narrow beam and the receiver’s small surface, imposing mobility constraints. The present work tackles this challenge by proposing a replacement for laser communication, using Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and Light Fidelity (Li-Fi). It uses the visible and near-infrared spectral bands of the electromagnetic spectrum to send data. A small-scale solution to an existing industrial scenario where laser communication is used to send data to moving AGVs is presented. A white LED is used as an emitter to simultaneously enlighten and send data to the AGV, while a photodiode is used as a receiver to decode the variations of light into electric control signals. So that the vehicle can send information back, infrared LED communication is used. Since the beam of an LED is wider than a laser beam, the AGV under this beam has more freedom of movement. This gives more flexibility and robustness to the industrial facility. The small-scale prototype presented in this work reports freedom of movement gain factor of 157 compared to the previous solution.
A Combination of Traditional Control and Hybrid Modeling Methods for Intelligent Fluid Power Systems
Veronique Bader,V. Remillard,D. Vol.2015 No.10
The necessity for greener and more efficient equipment has led OEMs and manufacturers to bring intelligence into fluid power systems. The integration of electronic controls in key components allow for better power management and safer work environment, which are two major concerns in the fluid power industry. One of the challenges of these new integrated solutions resides in the complexity of the design which involves many different expertise. Fluid Power, Electrical and Control Specialists need a communication platform to develop more efficient systems combining all technologies. Traditional control modeling methods are used to develop performant controllers with the help of equation-based or model-based software. However, more hybrid modeling methods – such as Machine Knowledge Management – are favored to design fluid power systems using integrated mechatronics software. By combining both methods to allow integration or co-simulation, control specialists will be properly integrated in the design and analysis process to build more intelligent machines.

This study focused on the development of a metaverse-based rainforest ecosystem for highschool students and tested its effectiveness in terms of students’ academic achievementand learning satisfaction. In this study, the metaverse platform ZEP is used to simulate arainforest ecosystem. ZEP jointly developed by Supercat and Naver Z was formally launchedin Korea on March 16, 2022. ZEP is a platform where users can integrate through avatarsand integrates the metaverse’s virtual space map, video conferences, materials, moviesand presentations displayed in object form. Ease of access, cost-effectiveness, interactivity, and user-friendliness are some of the strengths of the ZEP metaverse platform. The ZEPmetaverse materials for high school biology were developed to serve as a hybrid worldbetween the real and the virtual world. Data collection for the metaverse group was carriedout using the pretest-posttest method, comparing it with two control groups—one usingtextbooks and the other using videos. The results indicate that the experimental groupwith metaverse technology is effective in improving students’ learning achievement andsatisfaction. Therefore, it is proposed that the metaverse in education is valuable for teachersand learners because it could lead to student engagement and motivation in the classroom.

A mental space plays a part upstream from the process which converts thought into language, or conceptual principles into rules and practical methods. Inside occurs the transformation of “pre-conceptions” (ennoiai), derived from sensitive perception, into “conceptions” (prolepseis), resulting from their discernment by intellect. Such a course from sensitive images to “comprehensive representation” (kataleptike phantasia), contrary to the more frequent course which goes from the theoretical intellect to the practical one, has its source in Nature, at least for Stoic philosophers in Greece and Daoist philosophers in China, in the observation of natural phenomena and “animated things in themselves”. The mental appropriation (oikeiosis), ability to memorize an inner representation of the thing, generates a durable track like the impression (tuposis) made on the soul in the way of marks left by a seal in wax, as said by Zenon to exemplify phantasia, or like the non-verbalised pedagogy, except through metaphorical appreciation, which is the secret in China to guide the “right” gesture and to appreciate its intentionnality and effects. Our presentation focuses on moments and tracks of the back and forth movement (“va-et-vient”) between musical gesture and thought, and shows that the mastery of sensation, third component, is the key-factor of a continuity without break off between instinct and wisdom.
