Many different approaches have been developed to improve the efficiency of animal cloning by somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT), one of which is to modify histone acetylation levels using histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi) such as trichostatin A (TSA). In the present study, we examined the effect of TSA on in vitro development of porcine embryos derived from SCNT. We found that TSA treatment (50 nM) for 24 h following oocyte activation improved blastocyst formation rates (to 22.0%) compared with 8.9% in the non-treatment group and total cell number of the blastocysts for determining embryo quality also increased significantly ($88.9{\rightarrow}114.4$). Changes in histone acetylation levels as a result of TSA treatment were examined using indirect immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy scanning. Results showed that the histone acetylation level in TSA-treated embryos was higher than that in controls at both acetylated histone H3 lysine 9 (AcH3K9) and acetylated histone H4 lysine 12 (AcH4K12). Next, we compared the expression patterns of seven genes (OCT4, ID1; the pluripotent genes, H19, NNAT, PEG1; the imprinting genes, cytokeratin 8 and 18; the trophoblast marker genes). The SCNT blastocysts both with and without TSA treatment showed lower levels of OCT4, ID1, cytokeratin 8 and 18 than those of the in vivo blastocysts. In the case of the imprinting genes H19 and NNAT, except PEG1, the SCNT blastocysts both with and without TSA treatment showed higher levels than those of the in vivo blastocysts. Although the gene expression patterns between cloned blastocysts and their in vivo counterparts were different regardless of TSA treatment, it appears that several genes in NT blastocysts after TSA treatment showed a slight tendency toward expression patterns of in vivo blastocysts. Our results suggest that TSA treatment may improve preimplantation porcine embryo development following SCNT.

This research examines the cultural representations of race, gender and social status in pictures/illustrations found in Korean Middle School English textbooks. It is commonly believed that the textbook in the language classroom plays an important role as an ambassador to introduce the target culture to EFL students. However, many secondary English teachers and students in Korea complain that the cultural content of Korean Middle School textbooks is severely biased not reflecting the diverse nature of speakers of English today. To investigate the cultural aspects on the characteristics of the people in the textbooks, the researcher conducted an exploratory study on the pictures/illustrations from 13 Middle School English textbooks: eight from the 7th National Curriculum and five from the 2009 Reformed Curriculum, focusing on to what extent they represent the population of the target culture. While English textbooks today tend to have better statistics than those from the past, this research finds that Korean Middle School English textbooks in general have several issues regarding cultural bias; for instance, the majority of the people from the pictures/illustrations are either Korean or White American leaving extremely few places for other races, and more male characters are presented than female ones. In addition, Black people tend to be stereotyped as either athletic or low level workers while Korean and White American male characters possess the majority of the decent white-collar jobs (228 words).

Nitrogen (N) is an essential macronutrient required for plantgrowth and crop production. However, N in soil is usuallyinsufficient for plant growth. Thus, chemical N fertilizer hasbeen extensively used to increase crop production. Due tonegative effects of N rich fertilizer on the environment, improvingN usage has been a major issue in the field of plantscience to achieve sustainable production of crops. For thatreason, many efforts have been made to elucidate how plantsregulate N uptake and utilization according to their surroundinghabitat over the last 30 years. Here, we provide recent advancesfocusing on regulation of N uptake, allocation of N byN transporting system, and signaling pathway controlling Nresponses in plants.

접미사 배열은 주어진 문자열 내의 모든 접미사를 사전식 순서로 저장하는 자료 구조로, 많은 저장 공간을 사용하는 접미사 트리를 대체하면서 여러 가지 문자열 관련 문제에 사용되고 있다. 이를 O(n) 시간 내에 생성하는 것과 더불어, 실세계 입력에 대하여 작은 시간과 공간을 사용하여 구성하는 알고리즘들 역시 제안되어 왔다. 본 논문은 Maniscalco와 Puglisi[1]가 제안한 접미사 정렬 알고리즘을 분석하고, 프로그램의 수행 시간을 개선한 새로운 알고리즘을 제안한다. The suffix array is a data structure storing all suffixes of a string in lexicographical order. It is widely used in string problems instead of the suffix tree, which uses a large amount of memory space. Many researches have shown that not only the suffix array can be built in O(n), but also it can be constructed with a small time and space usage for real-world inputs. In this paper, we analyze a practical suffix sorting algorithm due to Maniscalco and Puglisi [1], and we propose an efficient algorithm which improves Maniscalco-Puglisi's running time.

This study investigated the incorporation of nanoscale titanium dioxide (TiO₂) particles, a well-known photocatalyst, into poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) nanofibers via electrospinning for the development of self-cleaning textile materials that can decompose organic contaminants and stains on the textile surface by light irradiation. TiO₂/PVA nanocomposite fiber webs were fabricated from a PVA solution containing 5wt% TiO₂ nanoparticles at a web area density of 3.0g/㎡. The morphology of electrospun nanocomposite fibers was examined using a field-emission scanning electron microscope and a transmission electron microscope. The photocatalytic decomposition efficiency of the nanocomposite fibers was examined by decomposition rates of methylene blue in aqueous solution under UV light irradiation. Also, the nanocomposite fibers were contaminated by methylene blue, and the color change of methylene blue on the fibers was assessed with time of light exposure. Methylene blue solution that contained TiO₂/PVA nanocomposite fibers exhibited much lower absorbance and thus gave a higher decomposition rate compared to that with pure PVA nanofiber webs after 12 hours of irradiation. TiO₂/PVA nanocomposite fibers contaminated by methylene blue also showed a photocatalytic property for the colorant after 24 hours of irradiation. The results indicate that TiO₂/PVA nanocomposite fiber webs have potential in medical textiles and automotive textiles that require self-cleaning properties.

This paper presents a stability margin and a specifications of vehicle stability controller by means of dynamic<br/> simulation model which validates dynamic behavior of vehicle. The model is consisted of 6-DOF sprung mass and<br/> 4-quarter car model for vehicle body dynamics. Powertrain model including differential gear and Pacejka tire model<br/> is applied. We validate a vehicle behavior under nominal cornering situations and critical driving conditions with<br/> general steering controller.
