New Record of The Leek Moth, Acrolepiopsis nagaimo (Lepidoptera:Acrolepiidae) in Korea

Acrolepiopsis nagaimo (Yasuda, 2000) belonging to the family Acrolepiidae (Lepidoptera) is newly discovered in Korea. The species was first collected wild at Wol-ak-san [Mt.] a few years ago and they were recently found to infest Chinese yam, Dioscoreabatatas at a Chinese yam experimental field of the Institute for Bioresources Research located at Andong. Diagnostic characteristics of the adult are described and photographs of adult and male and female genitalia are provided.

<P>The adsorption mechanism of thiourea (TU) and its effect on Cu electrodeposition were verified using TU derivatization. Contrary to the previously reported behavior of TU as an inhibitor, TU either promoted or inhibited Cu reduction according to the derivatization time. During the short derivatization time, the adsorbed TU with low surface coverage was oxidized to spontaneously reduce Cu<SUP>2+</SUP> to Cu<SUP>+</SUP>, thereby, accelerating the Cu deposition. However, TU inhibited the Cu deposition as the coverage of TU-Cu<SUP>+</SUP> increased with the derivatization time. Furthermore, a deterioration in the resistivity of the Cu film, which occurred when TU was added, was largely improved by the derivatization method while maintaining an enhancement in the film hardness. TU derivatization resulted in a 9.2% enhancement in the film hardness and only a 26.0% deterioration in the film resistivity compared to those of Cu films deposited in the absence of TU, which were not simultaneously obtainable upon the direct addition of TU to the deposition bath.</P>

Purpose The aim of this work was to evaluate a new polylactic acid microsphere depot formulation (Leuprolide Depot 3 M) prepared by a water-in-oil-in-water emulsion/solvent evaporation method. Methods The physical properties of the microspheres, including particle size and drug encapsulation efficiency, were characterized. The accelerated and long-term in vitro release profiles were examined. Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies were conducted in male beagle dogs after a single subcutaneous injection of the microspheres at 11.25 mg/animal leuprolide acetate by measuring the plasma leuprolide and testosterone levels, respectively. Results Leuprolide Depot 3 M was spherical in shape with a smooth surface and showed an average diameter of 17.83 μm and a drug loading content of 7.58% (w/w). These properties were comparable to those of Lupron Depot 30 mg, a commercial product. In vitro release of leuprolide at 37 °C from both formulations was sustained for up to 126 days and showed a similarity factor (f2) of 51.0. In the pharmacokinetic study, the plasma leuprolide concentration after subcutaneous injection of Leuprolide Depot 3 M or Lupron Depot 30 mg remained at approximately 0.1 ng/mL for up to 98 days. There were no significant differences in the pharmacokinetic parameters between the two formulations. Moreover, the plasma testosterone level was effectively suppressed to less than 0.5 ng/mL until the end of the evaluation. Conclusion These results suggest that Leuprolide Depot 3 M and Lupron Depot 30 mg are expected to have comparable efficacy profiles in clinical settings, which should be confirmed in further clinical studies.
In situ investigation of the oxidation of Zr–Nb–Cu alloy in high-temperature hydrogenated water

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The oxidation behavior of a Zr–Nb–Cu alloy under high-temperature water conditions, with different dissolved hydrogen concentrations, was investigated using in situ Raman spectroscopy. The results were subsequently compared to those of ex situ TEM analyses. Upon decreasing the dissolved hydrogen concentration from 4.15 to 2.49mg/kg at STP, the peak intensity of tetragonal phase oxide weakened, while that of monoclinic oxide strengthened due to the phase transformation. Ex situ analyses revealed that the Zr–Nb–Cu alloy was oxidized slowly as compared to the Zr–Nb–Sn alloy due to the number of β-Nb precipitates in the oxide.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The oxide characteristics of Zr–Nb–Cu and Zr–Nb–Sn alloys were compared. </LI> <LI> The Nb precipitates were positioned at the oxide/metal interface of Zr–Nb–Cu alloy. </LI> <LI> The corrosion resistance of Zr–Nb–Cu alloy was higher than that of Zr–Nb–Sn alloy. </LI> <LI> Dissolved hydrogen concentration was varied to see the effect on the phase formation. </LI> <LI> Dissolved hydrogen concentration influenced the early-stage oxide phase formation. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

<P>To synthesize a thermally robust Ni1-xPtxSi film suitable for ultrashallow junctions in advanced metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors, we used a continuous laser beam to carry out millisecond annealing (MSA) on a preformed Ni-rich silicide film at a-local surface temperature above 1000 degrees C while heating the substrate to initiate a phase transition. The melting and quenching process by this unique high-temperature MSA process formed a Ni1-xPtxSi film with homogeneous Pt distribution across the entire film thickness. After additional substantial thermal treatment up to 800 degrees C, the noble Ni1-xPtxSi film maintained a low-resistive phase without agglomeration and even exhibited interface flattening with the underlying Si substrate.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Plectida is an important nematode order with species that occupy many different biological niches. The order includes free-living aquatic and soil-dwelling species, but its phylogenetic position has remained uncertain. We sequenced the complete mitochondrial genomes of two members of this order, <I>Plectus acuminatus</I> and <I>Plectus aquatilis</I> and compared them with those of other major nematode clades. The genome size and base composition of these species are similar to other nematodes; 14,831 and 14,372bp, respectively, with AT contents of 71.0% and 70.1%. Gene content was also similar to other nematodes, but gene order and coding direction of <I>Plectus</I> mtDNAs were dissimilar from other chromadorean species. <I>P. acuminatus</I> and <I>P. aquatilis</I> are the first chromadorean species found to contain a gene inversion. We reconstructed mitochondrial genome phylogenetic trees using nucleotide and amino acid datasets from 87 nematodes that represent major nematode clades, including the <I>Plectus</I> sequences. Trees from phylogenetic analyses using maximum likelihood and Bayesian methods depicted Plectida as the sister group to other sequenced chromadorean nematodes. This finding is consistent with several phylogenetic results based on SSU rDNA, but disagrees with a classification based on morphology. Mitogenomes representing other basal chromadorean groups (Araeolaimida, Monhysterida, Desmodorida, Chromadorida) are needed to confirm their phylogenetic relationships.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The phylogenetic position of Plectida within Chromadorea (Nematoda) remains uncertain. </LI> <LI> We determined two new mitochondrial genome sequences of <I>Plectus</I>, the first representatives of the order Plectida. </LI> <LI> Mitochondrial genome trees depicted Plectida as the sister group to all other chromadorean nematodes (Rhabditida). </LI> <LI> The mitochondrial gene arrangement of <I>Plectus</I> is unique, and has no shared gene clusters with other chromadorean members. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
