Wireless safety monitoring of a water pipeline construction site using LoRa communication
Sung-Han Sim,Sang-Kyun Gil,Soojin Cho,Sung Woo Shin,Sung-Han Sim 국제구조공학회 2022 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.30 No.5
Despite efforts to reduce unexpected accidents at confined construction sites, choking accidents continue to occur. Because of the poorly ventilated atmosphere, particularly in long, confined underground spaces, workers are subject to dangerous working conditions despite the use of artificial ventilation. Moreover, the traditional monitoring methods of using portable gas detectors place safety inspectors in direct contact with hazardous conditions. In this study, a long-range (LoRa)-based wireless safety monitoring system that features the network organization, fault-tolerant, power management, and a graphical user interface (GUI) was developed for underground construction sites. The LoRa wireless data communication system was adopted to detect hazardous gases and oxygen deficiency within a confined underground space with adjustable communication range and low power consumption. Fault tolerance based on the mapping information of the entire wireless sensor network was particularly implemented to ensure the reliable operation of the monitoring system. Moreover, a sleep mode was implemented for the efficient power management. The GUI was also developed to control the entire safety-monitoring system and to manage the measured data. The developed safety-monitoring system was validated in an indoor testing and at two full-scale water pipeline construction sites.

Watermelon production is often limited by powdery mildew in areas with a large daily temperature range. Development of resistant watermelon cultivars can protect against powdery mildew; however, little is known about the characteristics of its causal agents. Here, we identified the genus and race of a causal pathogen of powdery mildew in Ansung province of South Korea, and developed molecular markers for the generation of resistant watermelon cultivars. The causal pathogen was determined to be Podosphaera xanthii based on multiple sequence alignments of internal transcribed spacers (ITS) of rDNA. The physiological race was identified as 1W, and the Ansung isolate was named P. xanthii 1W-AN. Following inoculation with the identified P. xanthii 1W-AN, we found inheritance of the resistant gene fitting a single dominant Mendelian model in a segregated population ('SBA' ${\times}$ PI 254744). To develop molecular markers linked to fungus-resistant loci, random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) was accomplished between DNA pooled from eight near-isogenic lines (NILs; $BC_4F_6$), originated from PI 254744 and susceptible 'SBB' watermelon. After sequencing bands from RAPD were identified in all eight NILs and PI254744, 42 sequence-characterized amplifiedregion (SCAR) markers were developed. Overall, 107 $F_2$ plants derived from $BC_4F_6$ NIL-1 ${\times}$ 'SBB' were tested, and one SCAR marker was selected. Sequence comparison between the SCAR marker and the reference watermelon genome identified three Nco I restriction enzyme sites harboring a single nucleotide polymorphism, and codominant cleavage-amplified polymorphic site markers were subsequently developed. A CAPS marker was converted to a high-resolution melt (HRM) marker, which can discriminate C/T SNP (254PMR-HRM3). The 254PMR-HRM3 marker was evaluated in 138 $F_{2:3}$ plants of a segregating population ('SBA' ${\times}$ PI254744) and was presumed to be 4.3 cM from the resistance locus. These results could ensure P. xanthii 1W-AN resistance in watermelon germplasm and aid watermelon cultivar development in marker-assist breeding programs.
A Study on Web-based code generation for component reuse
Sung-Ho Sim,Han-Yong Choi 중소기업융합학회 2015 중소기업융합학회 국제학술대회논문집 Vol.2 No.1
Developed of block shape components have focused on a variety needs. To develop the high quality software at low cost, it is necessary the methodology of systematic reuse using the generated component from different system. The conventional of legacy system is designed by the reconstruction of used component in the engineering part. However, the conventional system does not utilize the component actively. Because of the classification of component is not enough that does not realize the function and structure of component easily. In this paper, we proposed the generate method of component which is based on the web to reuse the component. To generate a method of component classification structure, the proposed system is able to provide the flexible structure using WSDL with searching the classification from web-environment, which is possible to reuse the component efficiently.

Background: Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a common hair loss disease with genetic predisposition among men and women, and it may commence at any age after puberty. It may significantly affect a variety of psychological and social aspects of one`s life and the individual`s overall quality of life (QoL). Objective: This study aimed to investigate the QoL of AGA patients and discover the factors that can influence the QoL of AGA patients, including previous experience in non-medical hair care, reasons for hospital visits, age, duration, and the severity of AGA. Methods: A total of 998 male patients with AGA were interviewed, using the Hair Specific Skindex-29 to evaluate the QoL of AGA patients. Results: The results of the Hair Specific Skindex-29 on patients with AGA were as follows: symptom scale: 26.3±19.5, function scale: 24.0±20.1, emotion scale: 32.1±21.8, and global score: 27.3±19.1. According to this assessment, QoL was more damaged if the patient had severe alopecia, a longer duration of AGA, younger age, had received previous non-medical hair care, and visited the hospital for AGA treatment. Conclusion: This study showed that AGA could harmfully affect the patients` QoL. These findings indicate that dermatologists should address these QoL issues when treating patients with alopecia.

<P>We present a simple technique to calculate spin-orbit coupling, < L.S >, and branching ratio measured in x-ray absorption spectroscopy. Our method is for first-principles electronic structure calculation, and its implementation is straightforward for any of the standard formulations and codes. We applied this technique to several different large spin-orbit coupling iridates. The calculated < L.S > and branching ratio of a prototype j(eff) = 1/ 2 Mott insulator, Sr2IrO4, are in good agreement with recent experimental data over the wide range of Rh doping. Three different double-perovskite iridates (namely, Sr2MgIrO6, Sr2ScIrO6, and Sr2TiIrO6) are also well described. This technique can serve as a promising tool for studying large spin-orbit coupling materials from first principles and for understanding experiments.</P>
