Efficient Real-time Multimedia Streaming System Using Partial Transport Stream for IPTV Services
Eun-jo Lee,Sung-kwon Park 대한전자공학회 2008 JUCT : Journal of Ubiquitous Convergence Technolog Vol.2 No.2
IPTV Content delivery systems over wired networks confront scalability problems due to their high network bandwidth requirement for real-time services. Especially, VoD service provides Trick Mode features such as pause, fast forward and similar operations. However, Trick Mode services are delivered by the method of unicast only for controlling of the stream. With a point of views, this paper propose a new real-time multimedia streaming architecture over IP Networks, which tries to achieve bandwidth efficiency and supporting for mass clients better than traditional unicast services. The proposed methods divide the Transport Stream into a series of segments. After that, this divided partial Transport Stream makes multicast streaming periodically. Meanwhile Set-top Box of a client makes a rearrangement orderly by using Presentation Time Stamp field from the served Transport Stream packets. While the current Transport Stream segment is playing, it should be guaranteed that the next segment is downloaded on time. Consequently, the original video content can be played out continuously. The detail introduction of a new real-time multimedia streaming system with analysis and simulation follows as below.

Reactive oxygen species generated under oxidative stress are involved in neuronal diseases, including ischemia. Glutathione S-transferase pi (GSTpi) is a member of the GST family and is known to play important roles in cell survival. We investigated the effect of GSTpi against oxidative stress-induced hippocampal HT-22 cell death, and its effects in an animal model of ischemic injury, using a cell-permeable PEP-1-GSTpi protein. PEP-1-GSTpi was transduced into HT-22 cells and significantly protected against H2O2-treated cell death by reducing the intracellular toxicity and regulating the signal pathways, including MAPK, Akt, Bax, and Bcl-2. PEP-1-GSTpi transduced into the hippocampus in animal brains, and markedly protected against neuronal cell death in an ischemic injury animal model. These results indicate that PEP-1-GSTpi acts as a regulator or an antioxidant to protect against oxidative stressinduced cell death. Our study suggests that PEP-1-GSTpi may have potential as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of ischemia and a variety of oxidative stress-related neuronal diseases. <P>In this paper, we describe a multichannel surface electrode for measuring nerve conduction in patients with neuromuscular disorders. The electrode was constructed using a nontoxic, nonflammable poly(dimethylsiloxane) substrate and a contacting silver-ball electrode using a simple, cost-effective fabrication process. The fabricated electrode is sufficiently flexible and embossed to maintain excellent skin contact, while preventing interference from neighboring electrodes under the wet environment. It is also biocompatible, as demonstrated by the absence of skin problems after a one-week test. The electrical and mechanical properties and durability of the electrode were tested. The multichannel surface electrode was strong and durable, enduring repeated bending through 120deg and resisting damage after four million repetitions in a bending test. The electrode surface was easily coated with conducting gel and recordings could be made under wet conditions without causing interference to neighboring electrodes. The enhanced impedance was comparable to that of a large commercial electrode and signals measured from the abductor pollicis brevis were noiseless. A quantitative investigation of the latencies of compound muscle action potentials in normal subjects and patients with diabetes mellitus was carried out to evaluate clinical applicability.</P>

Objective : To illustrate the technique of single-stage posterior subtotal corpectomy and circumferential reconstruction for the treatment of unstable thoracolumbar burst fractures and to evaluate the radiographical and clinical outcomes of patients treated using this technique. Methods : 16 consecutive patients with unstable thoracolumbar burst fractures were treated with single-stage posterior subtotal corpectomy and circumferential reconstruction. The mean patient age was 54.8 years. The mean follower up period was 25 months. Five patients suffered from T12 fractures, 10 from L1, 1 from L2. The segmental kyphosis, neurologic status, visual analogue scale for back pain was evaluated before surgery and at follow up. Results : The segmental kyphotic angle improved from 18.5 degrees before surgery to -9.2 degrees at the last follow up. The mean correction angle was 28.9 degrees. The mean surgical time was 255 minutes, and a mean intraoperative blood loss was 1073 mL. Intraoperative complications included two dural tears, and a superficial wound infection. There were no other severe complications. The mean visual analog scale of back pain decreased from a mean value of 6.6 to 2 at the last follow up. Conclusion : The single-stage posterior subtotal corpectomy and circumferential reconstruction achieved satisfactory kyphosis correction with direct visualization of the circumferentially decompressed spinal cord, as well as good fusion with less blood loss and complications. It is a safe and reliable surgical treatment option for unstable thoracolumbar burst fractures.

As demands for new strategies to control methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) increase, studies that gain insight from gut bacteria regarding growth inhibition and anti-virulence strategies have been reported. Although it was reported in several studies that Lactobacillus strains have antibacterial activity against MRSA, the molecular mechanism under these phenomena is unclear. Here, we evaluated the inhibition effect against MRSA Lactobacillus strains isolated from infant stools and performed a multi-omics study. Firstly, we screened the highest growth inhibitory strain and observed that MRSA growth inhibition effect was not correlated with extracellular pH levels, affected by Lactobacillus strains. In the multi-omics study, it was observed that MRSA significantly upregulated arginine deiminase system, proteins related protein folding and synthesis, etc., and downregulated quorum-sensing system, capsular polysaccharide synthesis proteins, etc. by Lactobacillus strain (L. gasseri 20). In this study, the underlying mechanism involved in growth inhibition and anti-virulence of MRSA mediated by lactobacillus strain was discovered.
