Interface and layout design of smart devices' Operating System (OS) tend to be simpler, lighter and more intuitive than before. Compare with when the smartphones emerged and now, the interface and layout design of smartphones has certainly different styles. The evolvement has been towards to be simpler, lighter and more intuitive. The trends are that physical numbers of layers are getting bigger but each interface has less contents, the size of text for icon is getting smaller and the icon design also getting similar and looks very harmonious. Until now this trend, simpler, lighter and more intuitive is accelerating; the guidance for interface and layout design encourage this trend however, there are no empirical evidence. In this study will investigate the four trends in smart devices OS; first the number of layers in layout design, second the number of contents in each layers according to the screen size, third the text size according to icons size and screen size: it means more intuitive, lastly the icons are looks harmonious style.

An observation on the relationship between stick-slip phenomena and chatter scratch generation during chemical-mechanical polishing (CMP) was made using finite element analysis. The motivation for this work is based on the questions about the possibility of the stickslip phenomena in the CMP process and the quantitative relation between the stick-slip behaviors and the formation characteristics of the scratch. The finite element simulation results showed that stick-slip friction could occur during CMP and it could be seen only in the case of the interactions with the particles trapped inside pad surface. Also, the stick-slip period increased with the density of interacting wafer surface material and the particle size had a significant effect on the stick-slip period and magnitude. It is expected that this work will aid the development of chatter scratch reduction technology.

Development of Highway Safety Policies by Discriminating Freeway Curve Alignment Features

In the Republic of Korea, severe crashes with injuries and fatalities have most frequently occurred in freeway sections withcombinations of horizontal and vertical curves. To address this issue related to geometric complexness, this study quantitativelyverified the adequacy of Korean highway safety policy and identified supplemental strategies required for the freeway sections withhorizontal and vertical curve combinations. Based on in-depth road geometric data, this study combined K-means clustering withbinomial logit regression to identify the effects of contributing factors on cluster-based crash severity levels. Resultantly, six clusterbasedcrash severity estimation models were produced. Single vehicle to roadside protective facility and multivehicle crash typeswere significant to decrease the likelihood of injury crashes for both full- and three cluster-based regression models. Compared withfull data model, driver’s age, action, crash occurrence time, and traffic management related factors were significantly identified inonly single cluster. The resultant findings show that multidirectional highway safety policies are further required for the currentKorean highway safety policy associated with curve alignment features. This study will assist in researchers and field practitioners’decision-making for future cost-effective highway safety policies provision related to freeway sections with geometric complexness.
