The key for the commercial deployment of IGCC power plants or chemical (methanol, dimethyl ether, etc.) production plants based on coal gasification is their economic advantage over plants producing electricity or chemicals from crude oil or natural gas. The better economy of coal gasification based plants can be obtained by co-production of electricity and chemicals. In this study, we carried out the economic feasibility analysis on the process of co-producing electricity and DME (dimethyl ether) using coal gasification. The plant’s capacity was 250 MW electric and DME production of 300,000 ton per year. Assuming that the sales price of DME is 500,000 won/ton, the production cost of electricity is in the range of 33~58% of 150.69 won/kwh which is the average of SMP (system marginal price) in 2013, Korea. At present, the sales price of DME in China is approximately 900,000 won/ton. Therefore, there are more potential for lowering the price of co-produced electricity when comparing that from IGCC only. Since the co-production system can not only use the coal gasifier and the gas purification process as a common facility but also can control production rates of electricity and DME depending on the market demand, the production cost of electricity and DME can be significantly reduced compared to the process of producing electricity or DME separately.

<P>In this study, first, a circuit analog (CA) absorber consisting of a periodic pattern resistive sheet, glass-fiber/epoxy composite as a spacer, and carbon fabric composite was applied to the leading edge of a wing-shaped structure to reduce the echo radar cross section (RCS). This CA absorber was designed in a flat-plate shape through a parametric study that was performed to optimize the device in the X-band (8.2-12.4 GHz). The reflection loss of the fabricated flat-plate CA absorber was measured with an X-band free-space measurement system. The measured reflection loss was -49.5 dB at 10.15 GHz and the -10 dB bandwidth was about 4.2 GHz. When the CA absorber was applied to the leading edge, the measured echo RCS level showed a 15 dB reduction near 10 GHz and a 10 dB reduction in most of the X-band in both polarizations. Surface discontinuity due to gaps between the leading edge and the wing-box was discussed. From the analysis results, it can be seen that the permittivity of the glass-fiber/epoxy composite material used in the CA absorber was in the proper range for application to a wing-shaped structure.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Objectives</B></P> <P>Persistence of thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb) in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) years after total thyroidectomy (TT) followed by ablation occurs even without any evidence of structural disease. Few studies have studied the natural course of TgAb positivity and factors that may influence this course. The present study evaluated the time trends of TgAb in ablated PTC patients and aimed to identify the predictive factors for the rate of negative conversion of TgAb.</P> <P><B>Materials and methods</B></P> <P>Overall, 1279 patients who underwent TT and subsequent ablation for PTC, with available data on thyroid peroxidase Ab (TPOAb) and TgAb prior to surgery (preop-) and ablation (abl-) were enrolled. Patients with initial distant metastasis or recurrence during follow-up were excluded.</P> <P><B>Results and conclusion</B></P> <P>Preop-TgAb was positive in 24.9% of patients (n = 319), whereas abl-TgAb positivity decreased to 12.8% (n = 164). In 164 patients positive for abl-TgAb, TgAb in patients with higher abl-TgAb levels decreased more gradually than those observed in patients with lower abl-TgAb levels (p < 0.001). Furthermore, in patients within the same range of abl-TgAb levels, patients positive for abl-TPOAb had a higher rate of negative conversion of TgAb compared with negative patients for abl-TPOAb (log rank p < 0.001). TPOAb significantly increased the rate of negative conversion in multivariate analysis adjusted for abl-TgAb (odds ratio 1.59, 95% confidence interval 1.11–2.28, p = 0.011). This study clearly showed that abl-TgAb titers and abl-TPOAb status can predict the rate of negative conversion. These findings can guide the optimal timing for additional examination in patients positive for TgAb during follow-up.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Positivity for preoperative TgAb in patients with PTC is higher than general population. </LI> <LI> The higher the TgAb levels at the time of postoperative ablation, the longer it takes to negative conversion. </LI> <LI> TPOAb status at the time of ablation is also associated with the time required for the disappearance of TgAb. </LI> <LI> TgAb and TPOAb together can predict the rate of negative conversion of TgAb. </LI> </UL> </P>

<P>Immuno-PET provides valuable information about tumor location, phenotype, susceptibility to therapy, and treatment response, especially to targeted radioimmunotherapy. In this study, we prepared antiepidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) antibody via identical chelator, 3,6,9,15-tetraazabicyclo[9.3.1]-pentadeca-1(15),1 1,13-trience-3,6,9,-triacetic acid (PCTA), labeled with Cu-64 or Lu-177 to evaluate the EGFR expression levels using immuno-PET and the feasibility of radioimmunotherapy in an esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) model. Methods: Cetuximab was conjugated with p-SCN-Bn-PCTA and radiolabeled with Cu-64 or Lu-177. In vitro EGFR expression levels were determined and compared using flow cytometry and cell binding assay. In vivo EGFR expression levels were evaluated via immuno-PET imaging of Cu-64-cetuximab and biodistribution analysis. Micro-SPECT/CT imaging, biodistribution, and radioimmunotherapy studies of Lu-177-cetuximab were performed in the ESCC model. Therapeutic responses were monitored using F-18-FDG PET and immunohistochemical staining. Results: Cu-64- or Lu-177-labeled antibodies showed high radiolabeling yield (>98%), stability (>90%), and favorable immunoreactivity. In vitro EGFR status measured by cell binding assay was correlated with the flow cytometry data. Immuno-PET, micro-SPECT/CT, and biodistribution demonstrated specific uptake in ESCC tumors depending on the EGFR expression levels. Tumor accumulation of Cu-64- and Lu-177-cetuximab was peaked at 48 and 120 h, respectively. Radioimmunotherapy with Lu-177-cetuximab showed significant inliibition of tumor growth (P < 0.01) and marked reduction of F-18-FDG SUV compared with that of control (P < 0.05) Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick-end labeling positivity and Ki-67 staining indices increased and decreased, respectively, in the radioimmunotherapy group compared with other groups (P < 0.01). Conclusion: Cu-64-cetuximab immuno-PET represented EGFR expression levels in ESCC tumors, and Lu-177-cetuximab radioimmunotherapy effectively inhibited the tumor growth. The diagnostic and therapeutic convergence radiopharmaceutical Cu-64-/Lu-177-PCTA-cetuximab may be useful as a diagnostic tool in patient selection and a potent radioimmunotherapy agent in EGFR-positive ESCC tumors.</P>
Birt-Hogg-Dubé Syndrome, a Rare Case in Korea Confirmed by Genetic Analysis

Simple benign tumors can present as part of a syndrome with substantial mortality. Fibrofolliculomas are benign skin tumors most often associated with the Birt-Hogg-Dubésyndrome (BHDS). The most life-threatening complication of this syndrome is renal cancer and other major features include multiple lung cysts and spontaneous pneumothorax. We present the case of a 54 year-old man with multiple flesh-colored papules on his face confirmed histologically as fibrofolliculomas. He had a history of recurrent pneumothorax and chest computed tomography showed multiple lung cysts. To confirm the diagnosis of BHDS, we conducted gene analysis that revealed a single nucleotide duplication in the folliculin (FLCN) gene (Exon 11, C.1285dupC). BHDS confirmed by the FLCN gene mutation is rarely reported in Korea. Appropriate investigation is recommended whenever a patient with benign skin tumors is encountered.
