Kyaw-Soe Lwin,Noh-Joon Park,Hee-Dong Kim,Young-Ho Ju,Dae-Hee Park 대한전기학회 2008 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.3 No.2
We studied partial discharge detection by sensing electromagnetic waves emitted from the partial discharge source in an HV Rotating Machine using a UWB sensor. In this study, we design a new type of compact low frequency UWB sensor based on micro-strip technology. We also perform many experiments of offline and dismantled testing compared with the existing HFCT on stator winding of the HV generator. We mention the detailed design of a new compact UWB sensor along with the time domain PRPD pattern and frequency domain results of partial discharge in the stator winding of a 6.6㎸ rotating machine by offline testing performed in a laboratory.

OBJECTIVES: Proper risk assessment is important for the primary prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). However, no validated risk prediction tools are currently in use in Korea. This study sought to develop a 10-year risk prediction model for incident ASCVD. METHODS: Using the National Sample Cohort of Korea, 325,934 subjects aged 20-80 years without previous ASCVD were enrolled. ASCVD was defined as a composite of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, and stroke. The Korean atherosclerotic cardiovas cular disease risk prediction (K-CVD) model was developed separately for men and women using the development dataset and validated in the validation dataset. Furthermore, the model performance was compared with the Framingham risk score (FRS) and pooled cohort equation (PCE). RESULTS: Over 10 years of follow-up, 4,367 ASCVD events occurred in the overall population. The predictors of ASCVD included in the model were age, smoking status, diabetes, systolic blood pressure, lipid profiles, urine protein, and lipid-lowering and blood pressure-lowering treatment. The K-CVD model had good discrimination and strong calibration in the validation dataset (time-dependent area under the curve=0.846; 95% confidence interval, 0.828 to 0.864; calibration χ2=4.73, goodness-of-fit p=0.32). Compared with our model, both FRS and PCE showed worse calibration, overestimating ASCVD risk in the Korean population. CONCLUSIONS: Through a nationwide cohort, we developed a model for 10-year ASCVD risk prediction in a contemporary Korean population. The K-CVD model showed excellent discrimination and calibration in Koreans. This population-based risk prediction tool would help to appropriately identify high-risk individuals and provide preventive interventions in the Korean population.

This paper presents compact low frequency ultra-wide band (UWB) sensor design and study of the partial discharge diagnosis by sensing electromagnetic pulse emitted from the partial discharge source with the newly designed UWB sensor. In this study, we designed a new type of compact low frequency UWB sensor based on microstrip antenna technology to detect both the low frequency and high frequency band of the partial discharge signal. Experiments of offline PD testing on medium voltage (22.9kV) underground cable mention the comparative results with the traditional HFCT as a reference sensor in the laboratory. In the series of comparative tests, the calibration signal injection test provided with the conventional IEC 60270 method and high voltage injection testing are included.

In April of 2013, the number of Japanese tourists to Korea fell behind that of Chinese tourists. Since then, Chinese visitors have been steadily increasing, while Japanese tourism to Korea has seen steady decline. In this study, we investigate the factors for the increasing number of Chinese and decreasing number of Japanese tourists to Korea. We use not only macroeconomic variables, such as foreign exchange rates and GDP, but we also analyze negative media exposure to the Japanese, the Korean wave of entertainment and drama, natural disasters, and so on. For more sophisticated results, we use Broken Line Regression to estimate the turning point of the time series trend with seasonality controlled for. In this study it is shown that, first, the number of visitors from Japan to Korea is heavily influenced by the exchange rate, followed by GDP. However, for Chinese visitors, GDP is most influential. The second finding of this study is that, more negative media exposure directed at Korea in Japan, results in the number of Japanese tourists decreasing two and three months later. This effect disappears after the span of four months, and was shown most remarkably for Japanese people in their fifties. This result should help explain the phenomenon of the decreasing ratio of fifty-year-olds to the total Japanese visitors over time. Third, the recent penetration of Korean entertainment, celebrities, and dramas into the Chinese entertainment market is a significant factor that brings more Chinese tourists to Korea.

Background: Serum phosphorus (P) level is associated with coronary artery calcifi cation as well as cardiovascular events in patients with chronic kidney disease. However, this relationship has been debated in normal subjects without renal dysfunction. Methods: A cross-sectional study was undertaken in 2,503 Korean subjects who underwent coronary multi-detector computerized tomography for screening and had estimated glomerular fi ltration rate >60 ml/min/1.73m². The study subjects were divided into 3 groups according to Agatston score: 0 (n=1582), >0 to 100 (n=613), and >100 (n=308). Serum P concentration was divided to 4 categories: =3.2, >3.2 to 3.6, >3.6 to 4.0 and >4.0 mg/dL. A baseline-category (Agatston score=0) logit model was applied to estimate relative risk ratio (RRR) for each serum P category (reference: =3.2 mg/ dL) with adjustment for age, sex, body mass index, corrected serum calcium, albumin, non-high density lipoprotein (HDL) and HDL cholesterol concentration. Results: Mean (±SD) age of subjects was 53.5±9.1 years and 36.9% were females. Increase in serum P level was not associated with the risk of Agatston scores of >0 to 100. When subjects with Agatston score =0 or >100 were analyzed, higher serum P levels were associated with higher risk of having Agatston scores of >100 (Figure). Serum P level of >4.0 mg/dL was a signifi cant and independent risk factor for Agatston scores of >100 (RRR 1.78, 95% confi dence interval 1.14-2.78). Conclusions: Higher serum P level may be associated with higher coronary artery calcifi cation even in healthy subjects with normal renal function. This fi nding needs to be validated in diverse populations.
