Objective: This study is performed for the purpose of examining into the efficacy of the scolopendrid(Scolopendra morsitans L) which has been used among the Korean people for the H.I.V.D of lumbar spine. Methods & Results: Using the herbal acupuncture made of scolopendrid(Scolopendra morsitans L), we treated the 10 H.l. V.D patients for 1 week and operated 4 pre and post treatment test ; D.I.T.I, 6 kind of physical test, Oswestry disability index, and self-conscious pain rate. Trough Lite test, we saw 50-100% of efficacy rate in each test. Otherwise, only 5 of the 7 point in D.I.T.I and self-conscious pain rate showed statistically valuable change. Conclusion: we brought to the conclusion that the scolopendrid herbal acupuncture has possibility to be efficient to cure the H.I.V.D patients. So we suggest the possibility to use this new remedy for the H.I.V.D.

Rationale: Neutrophils are key effectors in the host’s immune response to sepsis. Excessive stimulation or dysregulated neutrophil functions are believed to be responsible for sepsis pathogenesis. However, the mechanisms regulating functional plasticity of neutrophils during sepsis have not been fully determined. Objectives: We investigated the role of autophagy in neutrophil functions during sepsis in patients with community-acquired pneumonia. Measurements and Main Results: Neutrophils isolated from patients who survived sepsis showed an increase in autophagy induction, and were primed for NET formation in response to subsequent PMA stimulation. In contrast, neutrophils isolated from patients who did not survive sepsis showed dysregulated autophagy and a decreased response to PMA stimulation. The induction of autophagy primed healthy neutrophils for NET formation and vice versa. In a mouse model of sepsis, the augmentation of autophagy improved survival via a NET-dependent mechanism. Conclusions: These results indicate that neutrophil autophagy primes neutrophils for increased NET formation, which is important for proper neutrophil effector functions during sepsis. Our study provides important insight into the role of autophagy in neutrophils during sepsis.

본 연구는 실내 GIS 모델을 구축하기 위한 위상학적 모델이 객체의 기하학적 특징을 반영할 필요성에 의해, 기하적 정보를 갖는 위상학적 모델인 기하 네트워크 모델을 자동 구축하는 알고리즘을 개발하는 것을 목적으로 한다. GNM의 요소 중 기하 정보를 갖는 요소를 자동 추출하기 위한 중심 알고리즘으로서 직선 중심축 추출 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 개발된 SMAT 알고리즘은 기존의 S-MAT 알고리즘을 활용하여 일반화되었고, 해당되는 객체의 범위를 단순 폴리곤에서 내부 폐색 구역을 갖는 폴리곤으로 확장하였다. 자동 구축된 GNM은 타 시스템에서의 활용 및 용이한 접근을 위해 최종적으로 .csv 파일로 출력된다. GNM 자동 추출 알고리즘은 최단 경로 탐색, 위급 상황 발생 시 대피로 안내, 상황에 따른 차별적 분석 등 다양한 경우에 효율적으로 활용될 수 있다. The purpose of this study is to develop the auto-building algorithm of the Geometric Network Model(GNM), a topology model including geometric information because of the need to reflect the features' geometric characteristic into the topology model, which is for development of indoor 3D virtual model enabling queries. As the critical algorithm, the Straight Medial Axis Transformation(SMAT) algorithm is proposed in order to automatically extract the medial axis of features. The SMAT algorithm is generalized from the existing S-MAT algorithm and a range of target features where applicable is extended from simple polygons to weakly simple polygons which mean the polygons containing the inner ring inside. The GNM built automatically is finally printed out as the .csv file for easy access and w ide application in other systems. This auto-building algorithm of the GNM is available for plenty of cases such as finding a shortest path, guiding a route in emergency situation, and semantic analysis.

A high frequency plant regeneration system was established using root segments of Albizziu corenna via tissue culture. Cotyledon, hypocotyl, leaf and root explants were cultured on B5 basal medium supplemented either with TDZ(0, 0.04, 0.5, 2.3 and 4.5μM) alone or with TDZ in combination with NAA (2.7 and 5.4μM) or 2,4-D(2.3 and 4.5μM). Shoot primordia were formed when the explants were transferred to B5 medium with 0.04-4.5μM TDZ. Among the explant types tested, only root explants showed high frequency shoot regeneration. Other tissues tested did not respond well to the same culture conditions. Histological observation of the responding explants showed direct development of shoots from endodermal tissues of root segments. The shoots formed could be elongated and further grown by transferring to the medium with 1.44μM GA₃. The shoots rooted either on B5 basal medium or on B5 medium supplemented with 1.44μM GAS. Shoot regeneration potential varied among the explant types. Root explants appeared to possess the highest potentiality for in vitro shoot regeneration.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the cytotoxicity of Nexus RMGIC, an indirect restorative cement, on cell survival rate and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in periodontal stem cells (PDSCs). Methods: PDSCs were incubated with serially diluted Nexus RMGIC eluates with and without the addition of N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC). Cell survival was determined using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. The ROS generation was determined by measuring the fluorescence intensity for 2′,7′-dichlorofluorescin diacetate. Results: Nexus RMGIC exposure decreased cell proliferation and cell survival rate in a dose-dependent manner (1:8, 1:4, 1:2, 1:1) in PDSCs. The cytotoxicity of Nexus RMGIC was inhibited by treatment with 10-mM NAC. In addition, the production of ROS was detected by immunofluorescence after PDSCs were exposed to Nexus RMGIC. However, ROS generation was significantly suppressed in the NAC pretreatment compared with the Nexus RMGIC group. Conclusions: Nexus RMGIC increased the cytotoxicity and ROS generation. ROS was involved in Nexus RMGIC-induced cell toxicity.
Effect of Soil Carbon Saturation Degree on Mineralization Rate of Soil Organic Carbon

Continuous organic amendment application has been strongly recommended to improve soil quality and mitigate global warming. However, each soil has its own saturation degree which is generally decided by silt and clay content. Amended organic matter can be stabilized with stable form (i.e., mineral associated organic C) under a low soil C saturation state. However, under a high soil C saturation state, organic amendment application can increase labile organic C fraction and then might highly increase greenhouse gas (GHG) emission like carbon dioxide (CO₂) and methane (CH₄). To determine the effect of soil C saturation degree on mineralized C loss of organic amendment, the same level (4.28 Mg ha<SUP>-1</SUP>) of cover crop biomass was applied in different C saturation degrees of soils (56.4, 60.0, and 65.4%) in the rice paddy. CO₂ and CH₄ emissions were characterized during the rice cultivation period. Total mineralized C loss (CO₂-C+CH₄-C) was more highly increased with a higher soil C saturation degree. Approximately 47.43% of amended organic C was mineralized in 56.4% of C saturated soil, but it was increased to 68.04% under 65.4% of C saturation. CH₄ fraction of mineralized C loss was highly increased with increasing soil C saturation degree and then significantly increased global warming impact. Therefore, soil C saturation degree should be additionally considered in organic amendment management in the rice paddy. Under high soil C saturation, stable types of organic amendments might be recommended to increase soil C stock and decrease GHG emissions.
