The Optimization of the Number and Positions of Foot Pressure Sensors to Develop Smart Shoes

Objective: The purpose of this study was to optimize the number and positions of foot pressure sensors using the reliability analysis of the center of pressure (COP) in smart shoes. Background: Foot pressure can be different according to foot region, and it is important which region of the foot pressure needs to be measured. Method: Thirty adults (age: 20.5±1.8 years, body weight: 71.4±6.5kg, height: 1.76±0.04m) participated in this study. The foot pressure data were collected using the insole of Pedar-X system (Novel GmbH, USA) with a sampling frequency of 100Hz during 1.3m/s speed walking on the treadmill (Instrumented treadmill, Bertec, USA). The intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) were calculated between the COP positions using 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 99 sensors, while one-way repeated measure ANOVA was performed between the standard deviation (SD) of the COP positions. Results: The medio-lateral (M/L) COP position using 99 sensors was positively correlated with the M/L COP positions using 6, 7, and 8 sensors; however, it was not correlated with the M/L COP positions using 4 and 5 sensors during landing phase (1~4%) (p <.05). The antero-posterior (A/P) COP position using 99 sensors was positively correlated with the A/P COP positions using 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 sensors (p <.05). The SD of the COP position using 99 sensors was smaller than the SD of the M/L COP positions using 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 sensors (p <.05). Conclusion: Based on our findings, it is desirable to arrange at least 6 sensors in smart shoes. Application: The study of optimizing the number and positions of foot pressure sensors would contribute to developing more effective smart shoes using foot pressure technology.
항공기 예비연료 탑재량 감축을 통한 연료 효율 향상에 관한 연구

항공기의 중량은 연료 효율에 큰 영향을 미친다. 항공사들은 안전을 위해 대체공항연료, 보정연료, 최종예비연료로 구성되는 예비연료를 항공기에 탑재할 의무를 갖는다. 이러한 예비연료로 인해 안전성은 확보되지만 항공기 중량이 늘어나 항공기의 연료효율을 저하시키는 요인이 된다. 본 연구는 특정 항공사의 인천 방콕 노선을 운항한B777항공기들의 연료소모 및 탑재 자료에 대하여 정량적인 접근을 통해 충분한 안전 수준을 유지하면서 연료 탑재량을 어느 수준까지 감소 시킬 수 있는지, 그리고 안전이 저하되지 않는 범위 내에서의 연료 탑재량 감소를 통해 얻을 수 있는 연료소모 및 이산화탄소 배출량 감소효과를 무게인자와 연비손실 계산 방법을 적용해 산출하였다. 본 연구는 실제 항공기 운항 자료와 적절한 안전 수준에 대한 정량적 접근을 통하여 항공기 탑재연료 감축의 필요성을 검사하고 탑재연료 감축을 통해 얻을 수 있는 연료 및 이산화탄소 배출 절감 효과를 산출할 수 있는 방법론을 제시한다. The weight of an aircraft greatly affects its fuel efficiency. Airlines are obliged to load reserve fuel which is composed of alternate fuel, final reserve fuel and contingency fuel for operational safety reasons in addition to the mission fuel. While reserve fuel can increase operational safety, it also increases the total weight of the aircraft and accordingly its fuel burn. This research focuses on a practical analysis by utilizing loaded fuel and fuel burn data of a specific airline to determine whether reserve fuel can be decreased while maintaining adequate safety level. Using past fuel uplift/fuel burn data, statistical analysis is performed on uplifted fuel and actual fuel burn to find how much fuel penalty and emissions can be reduced by minimizing the amount of reserve fuel, and ultimately to find feasibility in reducing reserve fuel.

연구목적: 본 연구는 일본의 공세적 해양정책에서 북극정책이 등장하게 된 요인과 배경에 관하여 고찰한다. 특히 정책형성의 주요행위자로서 민간 싱크탱크의 역할에 관하여 고찰한다. 연구방법: 이 논문은 일본정부 북극정책관련 자료, 해양기본계획과 사사카와평화재단 해양정책연구소가 완성한 정책제언을 중심으로 하는 문헌분석 방법이다. 연구내용: 해양정책연구소는 북극관련 분야별 전문가 회의, 정기적 논의를 통해 북극정책을 위한 제언을 완성했고, 정부에 정책제언을 통해 북극정책의 중요성을 전달하여 그것이 일본의 북극정책의 핵심요소가 되었다. 결론 및 제언: 일본의 북극정책성립은 ‘지식형성 주 행위자’로서 사사카와 평화재단의 적극적 지식형성, 지식확산의 역할이 존재한다. 향후 공표될 제4기 해양기본계획의 북극정책에 관하여도 적극적인 검토가 필요하다. This study examines the factors and backgrounds of the emergence of Arctic policy in Japan’s offensive maritime policy. In particular, I examine the role of private think tank as a major actor in policy formation. The research method analyzed the data related to the Japanese government’s Arctic policy, the Basic Plan on Ocean Policy, and the policy proposals of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation’s Ocean Policy Research Institute. The Ocean Policy Research Institute completed the proposal for Arctic policy through expert meetings and regular discussions in each Arctic-related field, and conveyed the importance of Arctic policy to the government through policy proposals, which became a key element of Japan’s Arctic policy. In the establishment of Japan’s Arctic policy, there are the Sasakawa Peace Foundation’s active knowledge formation and knowledge diffusion role as the “knowledge-framing key actor”. Active review on the Arctic policy of the 4th Basic Plan on Ocean Policy, which will be announced in the future, is also necessary.

Apolipoprotein A-I and A-IV are protein constituents of high-density lipoproteins although their functional difference in lipoprotein metabolism is still unclear. To compare anti-atherogenic properties between apoA-I and apoA-4, we characterized both proteins in lipid-free and lipidbound state. In lipid-free state, apoA4 showed two distinct bands, around 78 and $67{\AA}$ on native gel electrophoresis, while apoA-I showed scattered band pattern less than $71{\AA}$. In reconstituted HDL (rHDL) state, apoA-4 showed three major bands around $101{\AA}$ and $113{\AA}$, while apoA-I-rHDL showed almost single band around $98{\AA}$ size. Lipid-free apoA-I showed 2.9-fold higher phospholipid binding ability than apoA-4. In lipid-free state, $BS_3$-crosslinking revealed that apoA-4 showed less multimerization tendency upto dimer, while apoA-I showed pentamerization. In rHDL state (95:1), apoA-4 was existed as dimer as like as apoA-I. With higher phospholipid content (255:1), five apoA-I and three apoA-4 were required to the bigger rHDL formation. Regardless of particle size, apoA-I-rHDL showed superior LCAT activation ability than apoA-4-rHDL. Uptake of acetylated LDL was inhibited by apoA-I in both lipid-free and lipid-bound state, while apoA-4 inhibited it only lipid-free state. ApoA-4 showed less anti-atherogenic activity with more sensitivity to glycation. In conclusion, apoA-4 showed inferior physiological functions in lipid-bound state, compared with those of apoA-I, to induce more pro-atherosclerotic properties.

This paper considers a melody extraction algorithm using a harmonic structure model and analyzes an effect of window length on the melody extraction. The algorithm estimates a melody pitch of each frame based on the melody definition that melody is a dominant single pitch sequence of a polyphonic audio. The algorithm performs short time Fourier transform (STFT) to find the dominant pitch sequence. However, the length of window for the STFT affects the melody extraction result because time-frequency resolution depends on the window length. Therefore, the relation between the window length for STFT and melody extraction is analyzed.
Effects of an 8-week Pilates Core Training on the Stability and Symmetry of the L-sit on Rings

Objective: Gymnastics on rings needs a high level of muscle strength with balance ability for controlling the body. A study on a new balance training program is necessary for elite gymnasts. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of an 8-week pilates core-muscle training on balance ability and asymmetry index of the L-sit on the rings in male elite gymnasts. Method: Ten elite gymnasts (age: $20.6{\pm}0.7years$, height: $169.9{\pm}4.9cm$, weight: $65.4{\pm}5.6kg$, career duration: $20.6{\pm}0.7years$), who are students at K-university, participated in this study. Results: First, the range of the COM tended to decrease in the anterior-posterior direction. Second, the left hip joint angle and knee extension and ankle dorsiflexion angles significantly increased after the pilates training. Third, the ROM also increased. Fourth, the symmetry value increased in the hip angle, while the symmetry index in all joints of the ROM decreased. As a result, the pilates core-muscle training influenced the static balance ability during the L-sit on the rings. Conclusion: Accordingly, the pilates core-muscle training is suitable in enhancing the basic balance ability in gymnastics on rings.
