This study used a mixed-methods research design to examine how preschool teachers in Taiwan implement the embedded executive function (EF)-supporting activities within the classroom and the consequent effects on children’s EF and oral language. Twelve teachers and 82 children from two preschools participated in the study. All teachers received training and developed a set of strategies employing embedded EF-supporting activities within the classroom. The study measured children’s EF and oral language after a 12-week period. Although significant effects on children’s EF were not observed for the overall sample, significant improvement in children’s oral language was indicated by the markedly higher scores compared with the pretest. Further analysis indicated that the effects were driven by the preschool with lower EF and oral language. The results demonstrated that EF-supporting activities can enhance the quality of the classroom, including increasing the speed of clean-up, encouraging children to focus on a goal and be responsive to the teachers’ directions, and more time for group discussion. The results recommend that teachers need more coaching support. Researchers need to facilitate teachers playing a more active role in designing EF- supporting activities and incorporate more time points to examine the long-term effects on children’s EF skills and academic learning.

This paper presents a novel robust H∞ model reference adaptive tracker (MRAT) for a class of nonlinearsystems with input nonlinearities, uncertainties, and mismatched disturbances. Since the bounds of input nonlinearities and uncertainties are unknown, a new adaptive controller is proposed to solve these problems. Because the proposed adaptive laws are with convergence, the adaptive gains estimated can avoid overestimation. Furthermore, the sliding mode control (SMC) is implemented integrated with a smooth function, then the undesirable chattering phenomenon is reduced. Finally, the proposed tracking controller can process the undesirable effects of external disturbances and promote the tracking performance even subjected to the unknown input nonlinearity. The numerical simulation results demonstrate the robustness and validity of the proposed tracking controller.
Elucidating the mechanical behavior of ultra-high-strength concrete under repeated impact loading

The response of concrete to transient dynamic loading has received extensive attention for both civil and military applications. Accordingly, thoroughly understanding the response and failure modes of concrete subjected to impact or explosive loading is vital to the protection provided by fortifications. Reactive powder concrete (RPC), as developed by Richard and Cheyrezy (1995) in recent years, is a unique mixture that is cured such that it has an ultra-high compressive strength. In this work, the concrete cylinders with different steel fiber volume fractions were subjected to repeated impact loading by a split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) device. Experimental results indicate that the ability of repeated impact resistance of ultra-high-strength concrete was markedly superior to that of other specimens. Additionally, the rate of damage was decelerated and the energy absorption of ultra-high-strength concrete improved as the steel fiber volume fraction increased.
Use Chains to Block DNS Attacks: A Trusty Blockchain-based Domain Name System

The Internet has become one of the most importanttechnologies in the world, and hackers use various methods tolaunch cyber attacks to profit from it. Phishing is one of famoussocial engineering attacks, it is often used to steal user data,including login credentials and credit card numbers. Althoughthe Transport Layer Security certificate is used to verify the trustof websites, there are still a series of vulnerabilities. The demandfor trusted IP addresses has led a lot of research, including IPwhitelisting, DNS filtering and so on. However, these technologiesstill have many shortcomings. In view of this, we proposeda novel mechanism for verifying websites using blockchaintechnology. The URL and IP address of a permissioned websiteare recorded in blockchain through a specific smart contract. A DNS query is executed through a smart contract designedto avoid URL redirection attacks. With the help of immutablenature of blockchian, phishing websites can be detected. Themechanism will not add any load to users and provides tamperprooffunctions based on the characteristics of blockchain. Thecomparison of related works shows that the proposed mechanismis more secure. We also provided a reference implementationof the proposed mechanism on Ethereum Quorum simulationplatform, which proves the effectiveness and practicability of themechanism.

Nesseria meningitidis is a type of bacteria which causes meningococcal meningitis and meningococcal septicemia. It often infects children under two years old and causes infant dead. Meningococcal diseases are prevalent in developing countries, like China and Africa. Based on their surface capsular polysaccharides, they are classified into 13 serogroups, while group A, B, C, Y, W135 are the major epidemic strains in the world. Though, some efforts have devoted to develop polysaccharide vaccines against N. meningitidis, but these vaccines often elicit weak immune responses and short immune memories. Therefore, polysaccharide-protein conjugate vaccines were developed to tackle the problem and the immunogenicity improved greatly. However, the compositions of commercial available vaccines are very heterogeneous and the quality is hard to control. In this study, we synthesized the N. meningitidis W135 capsular oligosaccharide in different lengths and acquired the homogeneous form to detect the immunogenicity. Because the N. meningitidis W135 capsular oligosaccharide is silalic acid-galactose repeating structure, we used sialyl phosphate as a donor to conjugate thiol galactoside to form the basic repeat unit. By linking the repeat units, we have obtained various length of oligosaccharide from disaccharide to decasaccharide. We conjugated these different length of oligosaccharides to carrier protein CRM197 (a mutated diphtheria toxin) and injected these conjugates to mice to search for the best vaccine composition.
Coexistence of osteoporosis, sarcopenia and obesity in community-dwelling adults – The Yishun Study

Objectives: To 1) report prevalence of ‘osteosarcopenia’ (OS) and osteosarcopenic obesity (OSO) entities using evidence-based diagnostic techniques and definitions, 2) examine if OSO offers additional predictive value of functional decline over its components, and 3) identify associated factors in a multi-racial Southeast Asian population. Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study of a representative sample of 542 community-dwelling adults (21e90 years old), and assessed anthropometry, cognition, functional performance, and selfreport sociodemographic, health and lifestyle questionnaires. Low muscle mass, and the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) 2019 criteria, were used to assess sarcopenia. Obesity was defined using percentage body fat and fat mass index. Osteopenia/osteoporosis was determined using lumbar spinal bone mineral density. Associated factors were examined using logistic regression, and OSO’s value investigated using linear regressions with functional performance. Results: OS and OSO prevalence were 1.8% and 0% (21e59 years), 12.9% and 2.8% ( 60 years), 17.3% and 4.1% ( 65 years), and 25.5% and 7.0% (75 years), respectively. OSO entity as defined was not a significant predictor (P > 0.05) and did not improve explanations for functional decline over sarcopenia or sarcopenic obesity. Age, sex, race and body mass index (BMI) were associated with OS, while age, sex, race and alcoholism were associated with OSO. Conclusions: Our results do not support OSO as a distinct entity in relation to functional decline. Aside from biological age, sex, and race, amenable lifestyle factors such as BMI and alcohol intake are important variables that can influence the co-existence of osteopenia/osteoporosis, sarcopenia and obesity.
A Versatile Universal Capacitor-Grounded Voltage-Mode Filter Using DVCCs

In this paper, a versatile three-input five-output universal capacitor-grounded voltage-mode filter is proposed. The circuit employs two differential voltage current conveyors as active elements together with two grounded capacitors and four resistors as passive elements. The proposed configuration can be used as either a singleinput five-output or three-input two-output. Unlike the previously reported works, it can simultaneously realize five different generic filtering signals: lowpass, bandpass, highpass, bandreject, and allpass. It still maintains the following advantages: (i) the employment of all grounded capacitors, (ii) no need to employ inverting-type input signals, (iii) no need to impose component choice, (iv) orthogonal control of the resonance angular frequency ωo and the quality factor Q, and (v) low active and passive sensitivity performances.
Low-Cost Camera Based Laser Power Monitoring and Stabilizing for Micro-Hole Drilling

In this study, a laser power monitoring and stabilizing system for micro-hole drilling based on optical outputs of a CMOS sensor is presented. The correlation between the laser power and the average brightness of the beam spots on the images was investigated. The estimated laser power was used to build an on-line closed loop control of micro-hole drilling. Experimental results showed that the shortest response time of the laser monitoring system was only 30 ms, which was much faster than a thermopile power meter. The average measuring error was 3%, compared with thermopile power meter. In the PCB drilling experiments of 30 kHz pulse repetition frequency, the PID controller could compensate the power disturbances from 38.4% to 1.8%, and the aspect ratio from 20% to 5%. This study demonstrates the feasibility to develop a low-cost laser power monitoring and stabilizing system in laser micromachining processes.
