Because of its greater biodiversity, ASEAN has long been a source and transit hub for transnational wildlife trafficking. Although several international and domestic wildlife enforcement mechanisms have been established, the scope and effectiveness of international legal cooperation and policy coordination between China and ASEAN remain limited. Governments have been hampered in their efforts to combat wildlife trafficking by the difficulties of investigation and prosecution in overseas jurisdictions and the maintenance of illicit supply chains by organized crime groups. This paper reviews the main trends of legal and illegal wildlife trade between China and ASEAN, explores the existing legal and policy frameworks of ASEAN countries and China, and discusses the effectiveness of cooperation between China and ASEAN countries by referring to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC). Finally, put forward the legal cooperation between China and ASEAN countries in combating transnational illegal wildlife trafficking.

Erasable conductive domain walls in insulating ferroelectric thin films can be used for non-destructive electrical read-out of the polarization states in ferroelectric memories. Still, the domain-wall currents extracted by these devices have not yet reached the intensity and stability required to drive read-out circuits operating at high speeds. This study demonstrated non-destructive read-out of digital data stored using specific domain-wall configurations in epitaxial BiFeO3 thin films formed in mesa-geometry structures. Partially switched domains, which enable the formation of conductive walls during the read operation, spontaneously retract when the read voltage is removed, reducing the accumulation of mobile defects at the domain walls and potentially improving the device stability. Three-terminal memory devices produced 14 nA read currents at an operating voltage of 5 V, and operated up to T = 85 °C. The gap length can also be smaller than the film thickness, allowing the realization of ferroelectric memories with device dimensions far below 100 nm.

Interferon (IFN)-λ plays an essential role in mucosal cells which exhibit strong antiviral activity. Lactobacillus plantarum (L. plantarum) has substantial application potential in the food and medical industries because of its probiotic properties. Alphacoronaviruses, especially porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) and transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), cause high morbidity and mortality in piglets resulting in economic loss. Co-infection by these two viruses is becoming increasingly frequent. Therefore, it is particularly important to develop a new drug to prevent diarrhea infected with mixed viruses in piglets. In this study, we first constructed an anchored expression vector with CWA (C-terminal cell wall anchor) on L. plantarum. Second, we constructed two recombinant L. plantarum strains that anchored IFN-λ3 via pgsA (N-terminal transmembrane anchor) and CWA. Third, we demonstrated that both recombinant strains possess strong antiviral effects against coronavirus infection in the intestinal porcine epithelial cell line J2 (IPEC-J2). However, recombinant L. plantarum with the CWA anchor exhibited a more powerful antiviral effect than recombinant L. plantarum with pgsA. Consistent with this finding, Lb.plantarum-pSIP-409-IFN- λ3-CWA enhanced the expression levels of IFN-stimulated genes (ISGs) (ISG15, OASL, and Mx1) in IPEC-J2 cells more than did recombinant Lb.plantarum-pSIP-409-pgsA'-IFN-λ3. Our study verifies that recombinant L. plantarum inhibits PEDV and TGEV infection in IPEC-J2 cells, which may offer great potential for use as a novel oral antiviral agent in therapeutic applications for combating porcine epidemic diarrhea and transmissible gastroenteritis. This study is the first to show that recombinant L. plantarum suppresses PEDV and TGEV infection of IPEC-J2 cells.

This study aimed to analyze the eluted components of syringe-type bis-acryl composites and to evaluate the effect of removingthe oxygen-inhibited layer on cytotoxicity. Four different bis-acryl provisional composite materials-Protemp 4 (PT), Structur2 SC (ST), Luxatemp Automix Plus (LT), and Hexa-Temp (HT)-were evaluated. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry wasused to analyze the composite eluate after 24 h of immersion in methanol. An agar overlay test and a live/dead assay wereperformed on the polymerized disc-shaped specimens after 24 h. To evaluate the effect of removing the oxygen-inhibitedlayer, samples were prepared with a surface oxygen-inhibited layer. The surface oxygen-inhibited layer of the disc-shapedspecimens was removed with alcohol only (subgroup A) or with polishing and alcohol (subgroup PA), and their cytotoxicitieswere compared with those of “as received” (subgroup N) specimens using the WST-1 assay. Statistical significance was assessedusing analyses of variance, followed by Bonferroni multiple comparison tests (α=0.05). Different components were detectedby gas chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis among the groups. The agar overlay assay confirmed severe cytotoxicityin HT, LT, and ST groups, whereas PT showed moderate cytotoxicity. The effect of removing the oxygen-inhibited layer oncell viability was significantly higher in PA than in N in all composite groups. In HT and ST, the cell viability was significantlyhigher in PA than in A. Syringe-type bis-acryl composites for provisional restorations may elute various components into theoral cavity, which may cause cytotoxicity in adjacent structures. The cytotoxicity of the materials is reduced by the removalof the oxygen-inhibited layer.
