Decision-makings or the related policies regarding domestic grape production heavily depends upon the known market price data and official statistics periodically announced by government, at national level. However, usual adaption of the ‘simple means’ from these data may bring seriously biased decision-makings when the original data are biased, especially when the data are not convinced to be normal distributions to decision makers. In this regards, this study employs Monte Carlo simulation technique to overcome the limitations, based on the decision makers' subjective assumptions on the known data, and, tries to come up with flexible range of business information regarding grape-producing farm income. The approach used in this study also provides possibility that it may be useful when adapting subjective assumptions from various statistical distributions.

This study attempts to identify the socio-economic characteristics, costs. returns and profitability. based on the functional analysis through the private poultry farming in Kishoreganj district in Bangladesh. In total of 150 poultry farms were randomly selected taking 50 from each category(small. medium and large). The field level data were collected by direct interviews with broiler farmers using survey questionnaires. This study found that cost of feed. cost of day-old-chicks. cost of human labor and veterinary charge were key and important inputs for profitability of poultry farms. The elasticities of broiler farms were 0.46. 0.90, 055 and 0.63 for small, medium. large and all broiler farms respectively It is also observed that the summation of elasticity of different inputs for broiler farms was less than one, implying that the production function exhibited decreasing returns to scale i.e., doubling the inputs will less than double the output.
WTO 체제하의 쌀 생산전략 : 영농규모화사업을 중심으로 Farming Size Expansion Policy

In recent years, domestic market environment of rice production is confronted with the problems of excessive production and decrease in per capita consumption, resulting in steady decline of domestic rice price. Moreover, as new trade negotiations of WTO or FTA are being forwarded, cheap price of imported rice will also make the rice production environment being worse off. One of the possible production strategies to relieve this situation could be expanding farm size, which increases market competitiveness in terms of cost-saving. Since 1990's, one of the main agricultural policies for rice production in Korea has been expanding farm size. This study aims at 1)exploring brief history of Korean government's agricultural policy for expanding farm size, 2)examining economic effect of filming size expansion and 3)discussing major role of government to promote appropriate programs for nice-farming and producers. Main conclusion suggests that appropriate farming size should be expanded upto at least five hectares per farm, with producers' effort to reduce farming costs and continuous investments on agricultural infrastructures including irrigation systems, etc. Continuous government's investment on operation and maintenance on water facility is also one of the important factors in expanding farm size.

Housing is one of the most important factors determining the quality of rural life. Housing condition in rural area has been deteriorating over the past years in spite of many rural development programs. Korean government formulated 'Rural Housing Environment Improving Plan' including rural rent-house program in 2006. This study aims to find the fundamental intension of rural people for adopting the rent-house system in rural area. To do this, background and current state of rural rent-house program are presented and the demand for rural rent-house is analyzed based on the survey results done by Korea Rural Community Corporation in 2005. Major findings from the survey analysis imply that the size/age/ownership of the current houses and the age of householders, motive and time period of current residing, and components of households are significant factors when considering whether they are willing to apply rural rent-house.
The Recent Economic Performance and Poverty Reduction in Vietnam
Le Trung Hieu,Seungmo Koo 서울대학교 국제학연구소 2007 Journal of International and Area Studies Vol.14 No.2
This study aims to determine the factors of sector gains and labor shifts on poverty of Vietnam, and examine how far the effects of these two factors on poverty reduction have changed over time. The empirical analysis utilizes data from the Vietnam Household Living Standards Survey in 1998 and 2002. As a result, agricultural sector has been central to the strong poverty reduction experienced by Vietnam over the last decade. Around 60% of the aggregate decline in poverty indicators originated from improvement in income of farmers. Lower poverty incidence of all the remaining sectors jointly accounted for around 30% and 20% of the national fall in poverty indices in 1993-1998 and 1998-2002 respectively. In contrast, as a result of quicker movements from low productivity sectors to higher productivity ones, labor shifts evolved as a more important contributing factor to poverty reduction in the same period. The highest concentration and severity of the two farmer groups, and their impressive participation in the reduction of aggregate poverty as pointed out in this study convey a strong message to policy makers, which implies that policies to reduce poverty in Vietnam must continue to reach farmers if a considerably further reduction in poverty is to be achieved.

Nazma Akter,Kabir Ahmed,M. Serajul Islam,Seungmo Koo 한국외국어대학교 인도연구소 2009 남아시아연구 Vol.15 No.2
This study was designed to determine cost/return structures and economic efficiency of small scale marine fishing of the selected gears in Bangladesh. To achieve these objectives a total of 90 fishing units(firms) of which 30 gill net, 30 roke net and 30 set bag net fishing firms were selected. Data were collected from the boat owners and fishermen for the period of one year. The findings of the study revealed that the selected fishing gears were highly profitable. The annual profits of gillnet, roke net and set bag net were found to be Tk. 111,022, 75,525 and 147,241 for the selected gears. It is concluded that set bag net fishing was more profitable compared to the other two gears. Cobb Douglas production function analysis revealed ? that the most of the explanatory variables included in the model were statistically significant and had positive effect in increasing revenue from fishing business.
