      • Foldable paper-based analytical device for the detection of an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor using an angle-based readout

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The rapid on-site detection of organophosphate compounds such as nerve agents and pesticides is essential due to their lethal effect, which irreversibly inhibits the activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE). In this study, we demonstrate a foldable paper-based analytical device (PAD) that is capable of detecting an AChE inhibitor in a semiquantitative manner. An angle-based readout of the yellow area in the ring-type paper channel was used for the semiquantitative analysis with the naked eye. The color of the paper channel was changed to yellow as a result of oxidized cerium oxide nanoparticles by hydrogen peroxide produced from the enzymatic reactions. All reagents required for enzyme reactions were preadsorbed on the pop-up card shaped PAD to minimize the manual steps for dealing with multiple reagents for sequential enzyme reactions. As a proof of concept, we were able to semiquantitatively analyze a nerve agent simulant called dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP), one of the AChE inhibitors, by simply reading the angle of the yellow area in the paper channel.         Adverse Reactions of the Second Dose of the BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 Vaccine in Healthcare Workers in Korea

        We conducted a prospective, mobile-based survey on the self-reported adverse reactions in healthcare workers (HCWs) who received both doses of the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine. Of the 342 HCWs who completed the two-dose vaccination, 265 (77.5%) responded to the survey at least once. Overall, the rates of adverse reactions were higher after the second dose compared with the first dose (89.1% vs. 80.1%, P = 0.006). The most common systemic reactions were muscle ache (69.1%), fatigue (65.7%), headache (48.7%), chills (44.2%), and fever (32.1%), and were notably more common after the second dose vaccine as well. We also noted a sex difference in which the frequency of adverse reactions after the second dose of the vaccine was significantly higher in females, which was not observed after the first dose. The rates of adverse reactions were lower in older age groups, and the rates and severities of the adverse reactions decreased during the 3-day period following vaccination.

      • <i>Flavihumibacter solisilvae</i> sp. nov., isolated from forest soil

        <P>A Gram-stain-positive, strictly aerobic, yellow colony-forming bacterium, designated strain 3-3<SUP>T</SUP>, was isolated from forest soil of Bac Kan Province in Vietnam. Cells were non-motile rods without gliding motility, showing oxidase- and catalase-positive reactions. Growth was observed at 20–37 °C (optimum, 28 °C) and pH 5.5–9.5 (optimum, pH 7.5). The major cellular fatty acids were iso-C<SUB>15 : 0</SUB>, iso-C<SUB>15 : 1</SUB> G and summed feature 3 (comprising C<SUB>16 : 1</SUB>ω6<I>c</I> and/or C<SUB>16 : 1</SUB>ω7<I>c</I>). Strain 3-3<SUP>T</SUP> contained phosphatidylethanoamine, three unidentified aminolipids and three unidentified lipids. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 49.5 mol% and the only isoprenoid quinone detected was menaquinone 7 (MK-7). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain 3-3<SUP>T</SUP> formed a tight phylogenetic lineage with <I>Flavihumibacter petaseus</I> T41<SUP>T</SUP> with a bootstrap value of 100 %. Strain 3-3<SUP>T</SUP> was related most closely to <I>F. petaseus</I> T41<SUP>T</SUP> with 97.3 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity and the level of DNA–DNA relatedness between the two was 9.4±1.2 %. Based on phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and molecular features, strain 3-3<SUP>T</SUP> represents a novel species of the genus <I>Flavihumibacter</I>, for which the name <I>Flavihumibacter solisilvae</I> sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 3-3<SUP>T</SUP> ( = KACC 17917<SUP>T</SUP> = JCM 19891<SUP>T</SUP>).</P>

      • Enhancement of light-matter interaction and photocatalytic efficiency of Au/TiO_2 hybrid nanowires

        <P>Metal/TiO2 hybrid nanostructures offer more efficient charge separation and a broader range of working wavelengths for photocatalytic reactions. The sizes and shapes of such hybrid nanostructures can affect the charge separation performance when the structures interact with light, but assessments of the interaction of light with these metal-TiO2 nanostructures have only been carried out on ensemble averages, hindering both systematic descriptions of such hybrid structures and the design of new ones. Here, we fabricated TiO2 nanotubes (NTs) with and without core Au nanowires (NWs), and used spectroscopy and calculations to assess their scattering and absorption of light at the single NW level. According to the results of spectral imaging and numerical calculations, the Au/TiO2 NWs scattered and absorbed light substantially more strongly than did the plain TiO2 NTs. Measurements of the degradation of the AO7 dye to assess the photocatalytic performance of the Au/TiO2 NWs were consistent with optical measurements demonstrating a two-fold improvement over plain TiO2 NTs under 360-nm-wavelength UV illumination. Our results suggests that nanoscale optical imaging can be used to visualize the performance of the photocatalytic reaction at the single nano-object level. (C) 2016 Optical Society of America</P>

      • Nanometer Scale Confined Growth of Single-Crystalline Gold Nanowires via Photocatalytic Reduction

        <P>Single-crystalline gold nanowires (Au NWs) are directly synthesized by the photocatalytic reduction of an aqueous HAuCl<SUB>4</SUB> solution inside high-aspect-ratio TiO<SUB>2</SUB> nanotubes (NTs). Crystalline TiO<SUB>2</SUB> (anatase) NTs are prepared by the template-assisted atomic layer deposition technique with a subsequent annealing. Under the irradiation of ultraviolet light, photoexcited electrons are formed on the surfaces of TiO<SUB>2</SUB> NTs and could reduce Au ions to create nuclei without using any surfactant, reducing agent, and/or seed. Once nucleation occurred, high-aspect-ratio Au NWs are grown inside the TiO<SUB>2</SUB> NTs in a diffusion-controlled manner. As the solution pH increased, the nucleation/growth rate decreased and twin-free (or not observed), single-crystalline Au NWs are formed. At a pH above 6, the nucleation/growth rates increased and Au nanoparticles are observed both inside and outside of the TiO<SUB>2</SUB> NTs. The confined nanoscale geometries of the interior of the TiO<SUB>2</SUB> NTs are found to play a key role in the controlled diffusion of Au species and in determining the crystal morphology of the resulting Au NWs.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

        Location Responsive Vehicle Digital Signage System for Visual Mobile Advertisement

        In this paper we present the combination of location based mobile advertisement services and dynamic digital signage markets has been developing recent days to provide consumer admired visual mobile advertisement on all kind transportation vehicles. In spite of that, the digital signage advertisement content management is still not that easy to manage the content dynamically as well operation is most time consuming to handle the contents dynamically in digital signage business. As location based services is most impactful service in shopping, the location responsive advertisement on vehicle signage will be most desirable mobile advertisement to help people migrate from one place to another place for travel or stay. This paper propose a mobile location responsive digital signage system for vehicles using the GPS and wireless infrastructure integrated with digital signage system. This proposed research use the centralized digital signage system architecture for the mobile advertisement application and this system can be expanded to different vehicles for digital advertisement including buses, trucks, train, air vehicle and any other form of mobile advertising vehicles. Also, this present an effective advertisement recommendation algorithm, by which the advertisement can be selected broadcasted for the right advertisement ventures more effectively as the service requested from advertiser. This paper present the emulated experimental result to evidence the proposed dynamic vehicle signage system performed better than compared with traditional signage random advertising. The emulated result proves that the advertisement recommendation algorithm can effectively works out the targeted key audiences in location responsive region the algorithm evaluated

        전주시 원도심 공간의 의미 변화

        본 연구는 전주 원도심 내 특정 공간이 시대의 변화에 따라 지역민들에게 각기 다르게 불리며 의미화하는 과정을 살펴본다. 웨딩거리라 불리는 전주시 중앙동 일대는 1950년~1990년대까지 상업과 행정의 중심지였다. 행정기관이 밀집해 있어 공무원, 교사, 부유층에 의해 시계, 귀금속 등의 구매와 수선을 하는 금방들이 몰려있어 금방거리로 불렸고, 인근 시장과의 연계성과 소비문화의 변화 속에 여성 중심의 소비 공간으로 의미화되었다. 금방거리는한복, 브랜드 의류, 귀금속 및 고가의 사치품이 주로 취급되며 결혼이라는 의례와 연결되었으며, 공간 내 결혼과관련한 업종의 밀집으로 이어졌다. 2000년대에 들어 원도심의 침체 속에 도심활성화 정책이 시행되고, 행정당국은일대를 웨딩거리라 명명하며 정비사업을 시행한다. 이후 결혼 관련 업종 중심으로 공간재편이 심화되었고, 이에 따른 지역민들의 소비와 의미화 과정 역시 결혼이 중심이 된다. 결혼과 관련한 소비문화의 변화 속에서 웨딩거리는다시 침체에 빠지게 되었는데, 최근 ‘-리단길’의 유행 속에서 웨리단길이라 불리며 청년 중심의 상인과 이용자들의소비문화에 맞춘 음식점, 술집, 카페 등으로 공간의 구성이 변화되고, SNS를 통한 의미화 과정이 나타나고 있다. 이처럼 본 연구는 시대의 변화에 따라 의미를 만들어내는 주체와 의미변화에 영향을 미치는 요인들의 상호작용을드러내고 있다. 사회문화적 관점에서 공간의 구성과 실천에 관한 역동성을 보여주었고, 행정당국 주도의 정책추진이 지역민들의 자발적 상호작용에 우선할 수 없다는 점을 드러내어 전국적으로 원도심 활성화를 위한 다양한 정책들의 실행됨에 있어 시사점을 제공한다. This study examines the process in which a specific space in the Old downtown of Jeonju City is called differently and meaningfully by local residents according to the changes of the times. The area of Jungang-dong, Jeonju City, Called0 ‘Wedding Street’, was a commercial and administrative center from the 1950s to the 1990s. Administrative agencies were concentrated near ‘Wedding Street’, so public officials, teachers, and the wealthy used to purchase and repair watches and precious metals. In addition, the street was called “Jewelry Street” because gold and silver shops were concentrated, and it was signified as a women-centered consumption space due to its connection with nearby markets and changes in consumption culture. In “Jewelry Street,” hanbok, brand clothing, precious metals, and expensive luxury goods were mainly traded, and these were linked to the ritual of marriage. So it made the marriage-related industries concentrated on this street. In the 2000s, urban revitalization policies were implemented amid the stagnation of old downtown, and local governments named the street area “Wedding Street” and implemented street maintenance projects. Since then, space reorganization has intensified around marriage-related industries, Accordingly, the consumption and semanticization process of local residents in this street has also been centered on marriage. Wedding Street fell into recession again amid changes in the consumer culture related to marriage. However, with the recent popularity of “-ridan-gil,” it has been called “Weridan-gil,” and the composition of the space has changed into that composed of the restaurants, bars, and cafes aimed to the consumption culture of young merchants and Consumers, and the process of meaning is emerging through SNS. As such, this study reveals the interaction between the subject that makes meaning according to the change of the times and the factors that influence the change of meaning. In addition, This study also showed the dynamics of space composition and practice from the socio-cultural perspective. In addition, it will provide implications for the implementation of various policies to revitalize the original city center nationwide by revealing that administrative-led policy implementation cannot take precedence over voluntary interaction of local people.
