The most distinctive feature of Jagyeongnoo is its simple and secure mechanisms devised for automatic audio-visual time announcing system. The Veritable Records Sejong Sillok suggested that special emphasis had been put upon signaling subdivided night-watches with mechanical logic operator. In this paper, the details of the night-watch signalling mechanism was described at full length. Through the recent reconstruction of the whole system of Jagyeongnoo which has been missing for several hundred years, the authors could discover the real ingenuity of Jang Yeong-sil displayed on the first Korean mechanical clockwork.

The influence of spanning condition on the shape factor of polypropylene profiled yarn was studied experimentally. Test spinning of polypropylene was carried out by utilizing a Y-shaped capillary die which has been designed to produce profited yarn. The types, of spring machine used for this study were both conventional undrawn yarn spinning and one-step spin-draw machine. From the experimental results, there was little differences in the shape factor between undrawn and drawn yarns. The shape of the yarn was mainly determined in the spinning process. Also, the shape factor of the drawn yarn produced from the spin- draw machine was greater than that of by conventional spinning and drawing two- step process. Anisotropy of surface tension in cross section of extrudates was responsible for the resulting shape factor. As the output rate and the fineness of yarn Increased, its shape factor decreased.

The Automatic Striking Clepsydra Jagyeongnoo installed in the Time Announcing Pavilion Borugak was the first clockwork with time announcing mechanisms in Korea. In June of 1432 King Sejong ordered Jang Yeong-sil make a timekeeping apparatus, whose wooden figurines announce time signals automatically without human intervention. On July 1, 1434 Jagyeongnoo began to function as the Royal Court standard timekeeper. Among numerous parts only clepsydra vessels have survived up to the present and nothing of the time announcing mechanisms remains nowadays. The authors of this paper had recently reconstructed the whole system of Jagyeongnoo, including the time announcing mechanisms as well. The mechanical and functional details of the time-telling apparatus were described in this paper. The characteristic aspects of Jang's ingenious devices, such as float-rod and ball-rack mechanism, ball-relay mechanism, and twelve double-hour announcing mechanism, were evaluated at the viewpoint of history of technology.

A new theoretical fabric shear model has been presented and a quantitative study has been conducted on the shear properties of polyethylene(terephthalate) (PET) fabrics of four different fabric densities and five different weight reduction. The fabric shear properties were measured with KES-F handle measurement system. From the theoretical and experimerntal studies. following results can be summarized : 1) The fabric shear behavior is strongly dependent on the fabric density and free volume available for the constituent yarns and their filament. 2) Shear hysteresis at the small shear angle(2HG) is dependent more on the yarn tensile properties than on the fabric structure. 3) Shear hysteresis at the shear angle, 5$^{\circ}$(2HGS) is dependent more on the interaction between two crossing yarns which is directly related on the fabric structure than on the yarn tensile properties.

We developed an algorithm to simulate the generation of virtual nanowebs using the Monte Carlo method. To evaluate the pore size of the simulated multi-layered nanoweb, an estimation algorithm was developed using a ghost particle having zero volume and mass. The penetration time of the ghost particle through the virtual nanoweb was dependent on the pore size. By using iterative ghost particle penetrations, we obtained reliable data for the evaluation of the pore size and distribution of the virtual nanowebs. The penetration time increased with increasing number of layers and area ratio, whereas it decreased with increasing fiber diameter. Dimensional analysis showed that the penetration time can be expressed as a function of the fiber diameter, area ratio and number of layers.

An image analysis processing method for the measurement of nanofiber diameter was developed. For the analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images of electrospun fiber were prepared and applied to the individual measurement of the fiber diameter by using the developed and the traditional manual methods. Both methods provided a similar fiber distribution. The fiber average diameters were similar but the variance of the new method was larger than that of the manual method. The average diameters from the two methods exhibited a linear relationship with a high coefficient. The developed method can be used as a practical tool to estimate the fiber diameter of the electro spun web.
