Network analysis is one of the hottest areas of research in biotechnology and biomedical research. It is a straight forward method of representing local and global characteristics of biological nodes representing the various biological elements. In network analysis, we use mathematical graph theory to show the interaction among the genes and its product. This represents the various biological activities in the cell. In order to predict the certain activity and interaction among the biological elements, it is necessary to find the optimal path in the network. This optimal path is usually the shortest path, which clearly depicts the key elements involved for the particular reaction. It is also necessary to count the number of shortest paths between the given pairs of genes in the network. This paper describes the need for finding shortest path in the biological network and illustrate the usage of Bellman-Ford algorithm to find the shortest path in Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS) data sets.

BLUE-Based Channel Estimation Technique for Amplify and Forward Wireless Relay Networks

The best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE) is most suitable for practical application and can be determined with knowledge of only the first and second moments of the probability density function. Although the BLUE is an existing algorithm, it is still largely unexplored and has not yet been applied to channel estimation in amplify and forward (AF)-based wireless relay networks (WRNs). In this paper, a BLUE-based algorithm is proposed to estimate the overall channel impulse response between the source and destination of AF strategy-based WRNs. Theoretical mean square error (MSE) performance for the BLUE is derived to show the accuracy of the proposed channel estimation algorithm. In addition, the Cramér-Rao lower bound (CRLB) is derived to validate the MSE performance. The proposed BLUE channel estimation algorithm approaches the CRLB as the length of the training sequence and number of relays increases. Further, the BLUE performs better than the linear minimum MSE estimator due to the minimum variance characteristic exhibited by the BLUE, which happens to be a function of signal-to-noise ratio.
Outage Analysis of OFDM-Based Cognitive AF Relay Network in the presence of Narrowband Interference

Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is one of the most widely used technologies in current wireless communication systems and standards. Cognitive radio (CR) provides a robust solution to the problem of spectrum congestion as it offers opportunistic usage of frequency bands that are not occupied by primary users. Due to the underlying sensing, spectrum shaping, scaling, and interoperable capabilities of OFDM, it has been adapted as a best transmission technology for CR wireless systems. However, the performance of an OFDM-based CR wireless system is affected by the existence of narrowband interference (NBI) from other users. Further, due to carrier frequency offset in NBI sources, NBI energy may spread over all subcarriers of an OFDM signal. In this paper, a fixed Amplify-and-Forward (AF) relay that operates at a frequency band that is different from that of direct mode is introduced to suppress the effect of NBI. Analytical expressions are derived for outage probability in direct, AF-relay, and incremental relaying modes. The outage performance of the proposed AF relay–based CR network is proven to be better than that of direct mode.
Assessment of Impact of Information Technology on Rural Areas of India

This project has established a hub-and-spoke model of datacum- voice communication in a group of six villages in Pondicherry in South India. The village centers can communicate with each other as well as to the Internet. A hybrid of technologies is used - wired with wireless for communication and solar with mains for power supply. The hub provides connectivity to the Internet through dial-up telephone lines, and the staff there creates locally useful content. The village centers receive queries from the local residents and transmit information, collected from the hub, back to them. An important feature of this project is the strong sense of ownership that the village communities have developed towards the village centers. The other key feature is the active participation of rural women in the management of the village center as well as in using it. A system of close consultation between the project staff and the rural users has been evolved, so that information needs are realistically assessed. Quantitative data are collected on the use patterns, and stories of deriving benefit have beer chronicled. On the whole, the impact has been positive. There is significant policy interest in the project outcome.

Chen et al.[10] developed a non-autonomous predator-prey system, which we reviewed in this article. The existence of a positive periodic solution is demonstrated using the continuation theorem of coincidence degree theory. Also, we proved the uniqueness and global stability of the solution by creating an appropriate Lyapunov function.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The host-guest interaction of gallic acid (GA) with p-sulfonatocalix[4]arene (p-SC4) is studied using emission and excited state lifetime techniques. The quenching effect on the emission intensity and excited state lifetime is observed upon binding. The impact of oxidation potential upon binding is studied using cyclic voltammetric technique. The structural features and the mode of binding of GA with p-SC4 is examined using <SUP>1</SUP>H NMR and rotating frame overhauser effect spectroscopy (ROESY) techniques. The binding of GA with p-SC4 has also been examined by means of density functional theory simulations.
