      • Strain sensing skin-like film using zinc oxide nanostructures grown on PDMS and reduced graphene oxide

        Satish, Tejus,Balakrishnan, Kaushik,Gullapalli, Hemtej,Nagarajaiah, Satish,Vajtai, Robert,Ajayan, Pulickel M. Techno-Press 2017 Structural monitoring and maintenance Vol.4 No.2

In this paper, we present a strain-sensitive composite skin-like film made up of piezoresistive zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods embedded in a flexible poly(dimethylsiloxane) substrate, with added reduced graphene oxide (rGO) to facilitate connections between the nanorod clusters and increase strain sensitivity. Preparation of the composite is described in detail. Cyclic strain sensing tests are conducted. Experiments indicate that the resulting ZnO-PDMS/rGO composite film is strain-sensitive and thus capable of sensing cycling strain accurately. As such, it has the potential to be molded on to a structure (civil, mechanical, aerospace, or biological) in order to provide a strain sensing skin.

Antibiofilm and Anti-β-Lactamase Activities of Burdock Root Extract and Chlorogenic Acid against Klebsiella pneumoniae

( Satish Kumar Rajasekharan ),( Samiraj Ramesh ),( Ann Susan Satish ),( Jintae Lee ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2017 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.27 No.3

Small phytochemicals have been successfully adopted as antibacterial chemotherapies and are being increasingly viewed as potential antibiofilm agents. Some of these molecules are known to repress biofilm and toxin production by certain bacterial and yeast pathogens, but information is lacking with regard to the genes allied with biofilm formation. The present study was performed to investigate the inhibitory effect of burdock root extract (BRE) and of chlorogenic acid (CGA; a component of BRE) on clinical isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae. BRE and CGA exhibited significant antibiofilm activity against K. pneumoniae without inflicting any harm to its planktonic counterparts. In vitro assays supported the β-lactamase inhibitory effect of CGA and BRE while in silico docking showed that CGA bound strongly with the active sites of sulfhydryl-variable-1 β-lactamase. Furthermore, the mRNA transcript levels of two biofilmassociated genes (type 3 fimbriae mrkD and trehalose-6-phosphate hydrolase treC) were significantly downregulated in CGA- and BRE-treated samples. In addition, CGA inhibited biofilm formation by Escherichia coli and Candida albicans without affecting their planktonic cell growth. These findings show that BRE and its component CGA have potential use in antibiofilm strategies against persistent K. pneumoniae infections.

Molecular Recognition of Neutral Substrates by New Tetraaminocalix[4]arene Derivative

        Satish Balasaheb Nimse,Keum-Soo Song,Chan-Yong Jung,Woon-Yong Eoum,김태선 대한화학회 2009 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.30 No.6

The recognition of neutral aromatic substrates by different neutral calix[4]arene receptors 1, 2, and 3 was studied by NMR spectroscopy. The stoichiometry is 1:1 in all cases as was confirmed by jobs plot. Owing to the deep cavity, 1 affords stronger binding abilities for substrate 4 and 5, while all receptors remained inert for substrates 6 and 7. The binding constants determined by 1H NMR titration show that the recognition of substrate 4 by 1 gives strongest complexation (Ka of 9.8 × 102 M-1).

      • COLOR IMAGE PROCESSING ON A DIGITAL IMAGE

Satish Kumar Singh 한국디지털융합학회 2021 IJICTDC Vol.6 No.2

Color image processing is very useful because color is a strong marker that also simplifies the recognition and extraction of objects from a scene and humans can distinguish thousands of shades of color and intensity compared to just around two dozen shades of grey. The processing of color images can be classified into two main areas as full-color and pseudo-colour. The images are first acquired with a full color sensor such as color TV camera, color scanner and second category has the question of assigning a color to a different monochrome intensity and intensity ranges. The aim of a color model is to promote color specification in a widely agreed way to some standard. A color model is a coordinate system specification and a subspace within that system where a single point represents each color. Some particular conversions can convert different color models to one another. This paper specify overview of different types of images, color models, their conversion and applications.

An investigation into performance of electric discharge milling using slotted tools

Satish Mullya,Ganesh Karthikeyan,Vaibhav Ganachari 대한기계학회 2020 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.34 No.6

The flushing of by-products from the interelectrode gap (IEG) of a few microns is the major concern in the electrical discharge machining (EDM). The inadequate removal of debris from the gap causes short-circuits and reduces machining efficiency. Researchers have explored different techniques to enhance debris flushing from the gap. In electrical discharge milling (ED milling), the rotation of the tool along with linear travel is the major driving force for the debris flushing. In this paper, the application of an improvised tool to enhance rotation induced debris flushing is proposed. The flow-fields of dielectric and debris were modeled using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The simulations results were utilized to optimize the tool geometries. A comparative study of the cylindrical and improvised tool in terms of material removal rate (MRR), tool wear rate (TWR) and surface finish was calculated. Relative to conventional cylindrical tools, the improvised tool enhanced the MRR by 150 %.

A machine learning approach for detecting and tracking road boundary lanes

        Satish Kumar Satti,Suganya Devi,Prasenjit Dhar,P. Srinivasan 한국통신학회 2021 ICT Express Vol.7 No.1

Road boundary lanes are one of the serious causes of road accidents and it affects the driver and people’s safety. Detecting road boundary lanes is a challenging task for both computer vision and machine learning approaches. In recent years many machine learning algorithms have been deploying but they failed to produce high efficiency and accuracy. This paper presents a novel approach to alert the driver when the car leaps beyond the Road boundary lanes by employing machine learning techniques to avoid road mishaps and ensuring driving safety. Performance is assessed through the generation of experimental results on the dataset. When compared with state-of-the-art lane detection techniques, the proposed technique produced high precision and high efficiency.

Understanding Rifampicin Resistance in Tuberculosis through a Computational Approach

        Satish Kumar,Lingaraja Jena 한국유전체학회 2014 Genomics & informatics Vol.12 No.4

The disease tuberculosis, caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality indeveloping countries. The evolution of drug-resistant tuberculosis causes a foremost threat to global health. Mostdrug-resistant MTB clinical strains are showing resistance to isoniazid and rifampicin (RIF), the frontline anti-tuberculosisdrugs. Mutation in rpoB, the beta subunit of DNA-directed RNA polymerase of MTB, is reported to be a major cause of RIFresistance. Amongst mutations in the well-defined 81-base-pair central region of the rpoB gene, mutation at codon 450(S450L) and 445 (H445Y) is mainly associated with RIF resistance. In this study, we modeled two resistant mutants of rpoB(S450L and H445Y) using Modeller9v10 and performed a docking analysis with RIF using AutoDock4.2 and compared thedocking results of these mutants with the wild-type rpoB. The docking results revealed that RIF more effectively inhibited thewild-type rpoB with low binding energy than rpoB mutants. The rpoB mutants interacted with RIF with positive bindingenergy, revealing the incapableness of RIF inhibition and thus showing resistance. Subsequently, this was verified bymolecular dynamics simulations. This in silico evidence may help us understand RIF resistance in rpoB mutant strains.

Synthesis and Modification of Novel Iminecalix[4]arene Derivatives

        Satish Balasaheb Nimse,Junbae Kim,Keum-Soo Song,Junghoon Kim,이정태,Van-Thao Ta,Van-Thuan Nguyen,김태선 대한화학회 2011 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.32 No.4

The synthesis of novel iminecalix[4]arenes and further modification thereafter is described using a synthetic strategy. The reaction of the benzaldehyde derivatives with tetraamine functions on the calix[4]arene easily afforded the pure compounds in 92.4-95.7% yields, regardless of the effect of the substituents on the benzaldehyde derivatives. These compounds were stable under the conditions to obtain their analogue dialkylated in the narrow rim, with 83.2-89.9% yields. Characterization of the newly synthesized iminecalix[4]arene derivatives by spectroscopic methods revealed that all compounds are in the cone conformations.
