Vol.2011 No.-

Japanese youth as a topic of discourse intensified extensively after Japan`s bubble economy burst in the 1990s. This discourse, however, often lacked clear distinctions between the young generation`s “problems” and that of its “adaptation.” Previous research emphasizes either “youth deviation” or on a “standard life course model” particular to Japan. In this study, I focus on the latter. In particular, I conduct a generational-based comparative analysis of the life course of Japan`s youth, spanning from 1945 and with a particular focus on changes in employment environment and family structure. I found that in many cases the research was premised on generalized pretexts or framed the youth as primarily detached from the model modern family. Though the standard (or assumedly self-evident) life course has played an essential role in the production of modern Japan`s family structure considerable focus has been excessively placed on how youth detract from the ideal family frame as opposed to the roles they play in creating it. The so-called “Japanese-style modern family,” which ideally amounts to certain delineations pertaining to gender-based divisions of labor and a two-parent-two-child structure has become the standard life course model-both in discourse and in institutional support mechanisms-and reveals a gender asymmetry in that the focus of studies has been on the young generations deteriorating working conditions as opposed pinpointing the specific additional pressures placed on women within these problematic times. In sum, Japan`s modern family discourse should be used to understand its policy-orientating and normalizing effects on life course patterns in postwar Japanese society.
Oxygen Vacancy and Magnetism of a Room Temperature Ferromagnet Co-doped TiO2

We report the local structure and the magnetic properties of a Co-doped TiO2 prepared by usingthe solid state reaction of milling with subsequent annealing. The Co-doped TiO2 shows a hysteresisbehavior in the magnetization curve at room temperature, which maintains the same rutile-typestructure as that of the starting material TiO2. The extended x-ray absorption fine structuremeasurement reveals that it contains some oxygen vacancies only around a Co atom which occupiesa Ti site. This supports the oxygen vacancy mediated ferromagnetic exchange mechanism.

Vol.2015 No.-
Background Sputum culture is important to the decision of the causative organism of lower respiratory infectious disease. However, pharyngeal mucus culture is often substituted in the children because sputum sampling is difficult. The objective of the study was to examine the difference of detection rate of S. pneumoniae , H. influenzae and M. catarrhalis in the sputum culture and pharyngeal mucus culture. Subject Sample were obtained from 121 children (under 15 years old) who submitted sputum culture and pharyngeal mucus culture at the same time from January to July in 2014. Methods Sputum was put in sterile saline and washed for removing a saliva ingredient. The pharyngeal mucus was submitted to using a cotton swab made suspension with sterile saline. Subsequently, it was made a smear and cultured. Results Three above-mentioned strains were isolated in 89 samples. The detection rate of S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae and M. catarrhalis in sputum culture (more than 2+) was 30.3%, 56.2% and 31.5%. On the other hand, its in the pharyngeal mucus culture was 5.6%, 24.7% and 5.6%, respectively. The sensitivity of S. pneumonia, H. influenzae and M. catarrhalis in result between the Gram stain in the sputum and culture were 63.6%, 92.1% and 88.2% whereas the specificity of those were 80.6%, 70.6% and 81.9%, respectively. Conclusion Sputum culture is recommended as a specimen of lower respiratory infectious disease in Japanese pediatrics respiratory infection guidelines 2011. The results to support it were obtained in this examination and suggested that it is desirable to examine it with sputum culture than pharyngeal mucus culture when suspect bacterial pneumonia in the children.

Objective: To investigate the utility of serum squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC-Ag) levels upon the diagnosis of recurrent cervical cancer for decision making in patient management. Methods: Clinical records from 167 cervical cancer patients who developed recurrence between April 1996 and September 2010 were reviewed. A Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to investigate the prognostic significance of serum SCC-Ag levels at the time of recurrence. The effects of various salvage treatments on survival outcomes of recurrent cervical cancer were examined with respect to serum SCC-Ag levels. Results: Serum SCC-Ag levels were elevated (>2.0 ng/mL) in 125 patients (75%) when recurrence was diagnosed. These patients exhibited significantly shorter postrecurrence survival than those with normal SCC-Ag levels (log-rank; p=0.033). Multivariate analyses revealed that an elevated serum SCC-Ag level was an independent prognostic factor for poor postrecurrence survival. In patients with SCC-Ag levels <14.0 ng/mL, radiotherapy or surgery resulted in improved survival compared with chemotherapy or supportive care. In contrast, in patients with SCC-Ag levels of ≥14.0 ng/mL, salvage treatment with radiotherapy had only a minimal impact on postrecurrence survival. Conclusion: The serum SCC-Ag level measured when cervical cancer recurrence is diagnosed can be useful for deciding upon the appropriate salvage treatment.
