      • 朝鮮 後期 韓醫學 外延擴大의 一局面

        박상영(Sangyoung Park),오준호(Junho Oh),권오민(Ohmin Kwon) 한국한의학연구원 2011 한국한의학연구원논문집 Vol.17 No.3

In the late Joseon Dynasty, a bulky volume of books, which had rarely been seen, poured out including "Imwongyeongjeji", "Japdongsani", "Songnamjapsik" and "Ohjuyeonmunjaangjeonsango". such sorts of books have a characteristic that an author collected various pieces of information, which were scatter away at that time, in one's own way and compiled them into a book rather than an author's own remarks or ideas. Most authors of such books were known to have made not a few book beside bulky books. Such a trend of the times doubled its revitalization with the influx of that books in a series that were popular especially in the period of Ming State & Ching State in China. The research work on such a trend once showed not a little progress by a few faithful researchers even under the circumstances where they were overwhelmed by the bulkiness of a book in a series itself and its target volume. However, in spite of not a little fruition of such studies, there has been no comments at all on the new factors of change faced by Oriental medicine in the climate of the intellect history in the late Joseon Dynasty. Thus, this study aimed at looking at the significance of medical-history-based studies on this matter on the basis of Park, Jiwon's "Keumryosocho", and Lee, Deokmu's "Iemokgushimseo", and suggesting the further task. The conclusions obtained from the analysis of "Keumryosocho" and "Iemokgusimseo" are as follows: 1.The prescriptions cited from the sorts of writings excluded entirely the medical theories on the principles of prescription, and they are composed of a single-medicine prescription or so, which made it easier even for those who lacked a special knowledge of medicine to use it; in addition, it was easy to get medicinal ingredients in most cases. It's presumed that such a composition of medicinal ingredients had a close relation with the difficulty in the supply of medicinal ingredients, which issue became a serious issue in the late Joseon Dynasty. 2. The prescriptions originating from the sorts of writings sometimes are mixed with the ones whose medical efficiency are doubted. This means the inherence of obstacles to delivering accurate medical knowledge couldn't be avoided because the initial purpose of such sorts of writings lay in popularity than practicality. 3. In spite of such problems, the prescriptions orginiating from writings seems to have not a few influences on the intellectuals in the late Joseon Dynasty, and it's possible for us to take a glance on the traces of their use of these prescriptions in an actual daily life. This fact is fully confirmed by the contents in the preface of "Keumryosocho" that Park-jiwon personally tried to write a prescription. Moreover, such facts can be also confirmed from the fact that the writings of China or our country are seen quite often among the writings which were incited by Seo, Yugu's "Injeji." Like this, the fact that the information of orthodox medicine and the one originating from general books other than medicine books were integrated at one place is plainly showing a phase of the intellect history in the late Joseon Dynasty deluged with information; because of such a characteristic, we can say that Oriental medicine became plentiful in the aspect of diversity with its expansion of denotation, but Oriental medicine could not but additionally assume the problem of having to distinguish good from bad in the midst of such a situation.

This study is to discuss the content of Posangkimun on the whole and to report the understanding of Seokgok Lee Gyujoon on western civilization. Through the overall analysis of Posangkimun, it is found the following facts: 1. Posangkimun aroused interest of academic circles as it covered theories of western civilization. Most of the introduction to western civilization contained in the book is related to astronomy and geography. Seokgok criticized all the western theories on revolution of the earth, astronomy, continents and oceans on the ground that these theories were not congruous with the teaching of the Oriental sages. 2. Seokgok found the reasons why the West had led the East from ‘nationalism’ of the West. The nationalism mentioned here were more similar to ‘democracy’ in modern sense, or rather ‘democratism’. What is specially noteworthy is that he did not find the reasons of western advancement from the spiritual issues not from the machine civilization. In this way, Seokgok could avoid the fallacy of throwing away traditional ideas to concentrate in western machine civilization. 3. The content of Posangkimun shows that Seokgok was a person with a very conservative view. Notwithstanding his inclination, he had good knowledge about western theories, most of which were gathered from newspapers and magazines at that time. It means that newspapers and magazines should be treated with more importance when studying Korean intellectuals in late Joseon period or during the time of Japanese forced occupation.

        박상영(Park Sangyoung),권오민(Kwon Ohmin),안상영(Ahn Sangwoo),안상우(Ahn Sangwoo) 한국한의학연구원 2008 한국한의학연구원논문집 Vol.14 No.2

This study investigates the life of Benjamin Hobson(合信, 1816.1.2-1873.2.13) -the writer of five books of western medicine which influenced the establish of 「ShinGiCheonHeom(身機踐驗)」-in order to expand our base to study 「ShinGiCheonHeom」. Findings and results of the investigation are as follows. 1. Treatise on Physiology(『全體新論』) excited a deeper interest among the Chinese literati and was so eagerly sought after that a reprint of it was made for sale. The income of works of Hobson's probably excited a deeper interest among the Korean literati also. 2. We found Hobson had written many works. Among those we must pay attention to A Medical Vocabulary in English and Chinese; (『醫學英華字釋』)Through this book we can reach agreeable translation of 『ShinGiCheonHeom』. 3. Evangelism and philanthropism promoted activities of Hobson as a doctor and as a an introducer of western medicine. But ignorance of oriental medicine-Hobson thought medical science in China was at a low level-lied in these activities and passion to do it. Nowadays we must wipe out thought of this way through the scientific way.

      • 『治腫秘方』연구

        박상영(Park Sangyoung),이선아(Lee Suna),권오민(Kwon Ohmin),안상우(Ahn Sangwoo) 한국한의학연구원 2008 한국한의학연구원논문집 Vol.14 No.1

This article highlights the part of Chijongjinam that was not examined by previous relevant studies. Findings are summarized as follows. First, king was the main reader of the Yubang that was the raw material of Chijongbibang. This means that Yubang was a kind of document that was reported to the central government. It is likely that the Yubang was written when Im-Eonguk was affiliated to Chijongcheong. Second, Im-Eonguk developed a body of innovative medical techniques based on acupunctural skills that had been learnt from an old Buddhist monk. The newly developed techniques was possible because he combined altogether the medical experiences of his own and a band of veterinary knowledge and techniques that was then disregarded. Third, Chijongbibang indicates that the origin of unique features in Korean medicine can be traced up to before the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, though it is generally accepted that Sauigyeongheombang contained on a full scale unique features of the Korean medicine that was initiated by laypersons and later formed the mainstream of Korean medicine. What should be particularly noted here is that the personal medicine of Im-Eonguk being based on laypersons' medical experiences was employed by central government; the government circulated the medical knowledge and skills for the grass-roots; and eventually the medicine influenced Chinese medicine. And last but not least, Im-Eonguk set the historic occasion of using medicinal materials that can be found on the road and used readily, which is virtually a distinctive case that is unlikely to be found anywhere except Korean medical books.
