        Seasonal Variation of Acute Stroke;Hospital Based Study

        Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the seasonal variation in stroke types, ischemic stroke subtypes, stroke risk factors and Sasang constitutions. Methods: 226 patients with acute stroke within 14 days onset were included, who were admitted to Kyunghee Oriental Medical Center from November 2005 to October 2006. The year was subdivided into four parts: spring (March-May); summer (June-August); fall (September-November); and winter (December-February). Stroke types, ischemic stroke subtypes, stroke risk factors and Sasang constitutions in the four groups were examined. Results: Ischemic stroke was most frequent in summer, whereas hemorrhagic stroke was most frequent in winter. There was no significant difference in seasonal variation of stroke. The frequency of ischemic heart disease among stroke risk factors was significantly high in spring (p=0.031). The frequency of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, atrial fibrillation, and hyperlipidemia did not differ among seasons. There was no significant difference in Sasang constitution among seasons. Frequency of small vessel occlusion was highest in summer. Large artery atherosclerosis was frequent in spring and summer,but seasonal variation of ischemic stroke subtypes did not show statistical difference. Conclusion: Acute stroke demonstrates seasonal characteristics according to stroke types, ischemic stroke subtypes, risk factors for stroke, and Sasang constitutions. These results have important clinical implications in stroke prevention.

      • Weld line detection algorithm for radiography test of welding beads in a ship piping system

        Inspection of welding beads is important to achieve reliability of welding condition. Radiography testing is a widely used method in ship piping systems to verify welding quality. In our industry problem, a mobile robot was utilized to radiate X-ray outwards from inside of a pipe. Because small amount of radiation is allowed by the legal regulation, precise localization of a weld line is required. This paper proposes a robot vision algorithm to precisely localize the position of a weld line in a piping system. The proposed algorithm detects a weld line and loosely localizes the position by using a difference of Gaussian. For a sub-region that contains the loosely localized weld line, morphological operations are applied to precisely localize the position of the weld line. Experiments were conducted on real industry data to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

        Distributions of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Fecal Sterols in Sediment from Gamak Bay and Their Impact on Benthic Community

        Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and fecal sterols were determined in the sediment from Gamak Bay in Korea, to investigate their distributions and impacts on benthic environment. Concentrations of 16 PAHs and 8 fecal sterols in Gamak Bay sediments ranged from 130 to 2,100 ng/g dry weight (mean 400 ng/g dry weight), and from 740 to 9,500 ng/g dry weight (mean 2,900 ng/g dry weight), respectively. Concentrations of coprostanol (Cop), which has been used as indicator of domestic pollution, ranged from 12 to 600 ng/g dry weight. Concentrations of PAHs and Cop in the sediment from Gamak Bay were similar to or lower than those reported for industrialized bays of Korea and other countries. No correlation between the levels of PAHs and fecal sterols was found in sediment from Gamak Bay, suggesting the differences of source and behavior for these chemicals in coastal environment. Diagnostic ratios and profiles of PAHs in Gamak Bay sediment showed a strong pyrolytic origin with a slight petrogenic contamination. The Cop/(Cop+cholestanol) and Cop/ cholesterol showed that the organic pollution in Gamak Bay was attributed to biogenic source rather than sewage pollution. Spearman correlation analyses and non-parametric multidimensional scaling (MDS) technique showed that distribution of fecal sterols was associated with benthic community structure in sediment from Gamak Bay.

        A Study on The Teaching Method of Team Teaching in Academia and Industry for The Innovation of Advertising and Public Relations Department Convergence Education

        4차 산업혁명시대를 맞이하여 과거보다 복잡해진 광고홍보산업 생태계의 복합적인 문제들이 제기되면서, 융합교육의 필요성과 중요성이 요구되고 있다. 본 연구는 학계와 업계의 팀티칭 교수법을 통한 융합교육과 관련된 문헌연구와 광고홍보 학계와 산업계 전문가를 대상으로 한 심층인터뷰를 실시하여 융합교육 활성화를 위한 팀티칭 교수법의 유용성과 실행방안을 연구하였다. 연구결과, 광고홍보학과 교과과정에서 학계와 업계가 공동으로 참여하는 팀티칭 방법의 도입은 적절하며, 학계와 업계의 두 명 이상의 교육자가 공동으로 교육 프로 그램을 진행하는 팀티칭은 이론과 실무를 융합한 문제해결 능력 역량을 갖춘 학생 양성에 목적을 두고 있는 의미 있는 교육방법이 될 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 광고홍보학과 팀티칭 교육의 탐색적 연구로 새로운 산학 협동 모델을 제안하였으며, 향후 학계와 업계에서 지속적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 기대된다. In the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, complex problems of the advertising and PR industry ecosystem, which have become more complex than in the past, are raised, and the necessity and importance of convergence education is being demanded. In this study, the usefulness and implementation plan of the team teaching method for revitalization of convergence education were studied by conducting in-depth interviews with experts in academia and practice expert. The results of this study summarized that it is appropriate to introduce a team teaching method in which academia and industry jointly participate in the curriculum of the Department of Advertising and PR. It was found to be a meaningful educational method aimed at nurturing students with problem-solving ability. This study proposed a new industry-academic cooperation model as an exploratory study of advertising and PR department and team teaching education.

      • Effect of nanotubular-micro-roughened titanium surface on cell response <i>in vitro</i> and osseointegration <i>in vivo</i>

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>This study was to evaluate wettability, cell response, and osseointegration of nanotubular titanium (Ti) surface by anodic oxidation. Commercially pure Ti discs were treated by polishing, sandblasting, and anodizing. These surfaces were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and contact angle measurement. MC3T3-E1 osteoblast cell was used to evaluate cell response <I>in vitro</I>. The cell morphology, cell viability, and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) specific activity were assessed. The Ti implants of 2.0mm diameter and 5.0mm long treated by anodizing and sandblasting/anodizing were inserted into the tibia of rats. After 3weeks, the histology of the Ti–bone interface was examined. SEM observations showed that the anodizing and sandblasting/anodizing created the nanotubular surface and graded nanotubular-micro-roughened surfaces, respectively. The anodizing and sandblasting/anodizing significantly improved the hydrophilicity of Ti. The significant greatest cell spreading and ALP specific activity were observed on the graded nanotubular-micro-roughened surfaces treated by sandblasting/anodizing. The <I>in vivo</I> study shows that newly formed bone was intimately in contact with the nanotubular surfaces without adverse immune response. This study has suggested that the graded nanotubular-micro-roughened surface of Ti treated with sandblasting/anodizing is very promising in implantology due to improved hydrophilicity, favorable cell response, and excellent osseointegration.</P>

        A prospective study on the effectiveness of newly developed autogenous tooth bone graft material for sinus bone graft procedure

        PURPOSE The purpose of this prospective study was to evaluate the effectiveness of newly developed autogenous tooth bone graft material (AutoBT)application for sinus bone graft procedure. MATERIALS AND METHODS The patients with less than 5.0 mm of residual bone height in maxillary posterior area were enrolled. For the sinus bone graft procedure, Bio-Oss was grafted in control group and AutoBT powder was grafted in experimental group. Clinical and radiographic examination were done for the comparison of grafted materials in sinus cavity between groups. At 4 months after sinus bone graft procedure, biopsy specimens were analyzed by microcomputed tomography and histomorphometric examination for the evaluation of healing state of bone graft site. RESULTS In CT evaluation, there was no difference in bone density, bone height and sinus membrane thickness between groups. In microCT analysis, there was no difference in total bone volume, new bone volume, bone mineral density of new bone between groups. There was significant difference trabecular thickness (0.07 µm in Bio-Oss group Vs. 0.08 µm in AutoBT group) (P=.006). In histomorphometric analysis, there was no difference in new bone formation, residual graft material, bone marrow space between groups. There was significant difference osteoid thickness (8.35 µm in Bio-Oss group Vs. 13.12 µm in AutoBT group) (P=.025). CONCLUSION AutoBT could be considered a viable alternative to the autogenous bone or other bone graft materials in sinus bone graft procedure.

        WETTABILITY AND DRUG DELIVERY OF FUNCTIONALLY GRADED NANO-MICRO POROUS TITANIUM SURFACE

        STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: It is known that an anodic oxidation technique, one of the methods for the implant surface treatment, remarkably increased surface area, enhanced wettability and accelerated the initial bone healing. Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate the wettability of anodized titanium surface which has a nanotubular structure, to assess osseointegration after the placement of implant with nano-size tubes on tibia of rats and to analyze quantitatively transferable rhBMP-2 on each surface. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Four different kinds of surface-treated titanium discs (polished (machined surface) group, micro (blasting surface) group, nano (anodizedmachined surface) group, and nano-micro (anodized-blasting surface) group) were fabricated (n=10). Three different media were chosen to measure the surface contact angles; distilled water, plasma and rhBMP-2 solution. After a single drop (0.025 $m{\ell}$) of solution, the picture was taken with the image camera, and contact angle was measured by using image analysis system. For the test of osseointegration, 2 kinds of anodized surface (anodized-machined surface, anodized-blasting surface) implants having 2.0 mm in diameter and 5.0 mm in length inserted into the tibia of Wistar rats. After 3 weeks, tibia were harvested and the specimens were stained with hematoxylin and eosin for histological analysis. To test the possibility of drug delivery, after soaking sample groups in the concentration of 250 ng/$m{\ell}$l of rhBMP-2 for 48 hours, the excess solution of rhBMP-2 were removed. After that, they were lyophilized for 24 hours, and then the rhBMP-2 on the surface of titanium was resolved for 72 hours in PBS. All the extracted solution was analyzed by ELISA. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed on the data. RESULTS: The wettability is improved by anodic oxidation. The best wettability was shown on the nano-micro group, and it was followed by nano group, micro group, and polished group. In the histological findings, all implants showed good healing and the new bone formation were observed along the implant surface. After 3 days, nano-micro group delivered the most amount of rhBMP-2, followed by nano group, micro group, and polished group. CONCLUSION: It indicated that anodic oxidation on blasting surface produce functionally graded nano-micro porous structure and enhance hydrophilicity of the surface and osseointegration. The findings suggest that the nano-micro porous structure could be a useful carrier of osteogenic molecules like rhBMP-2.

        Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma presenting with cholecystitis-like symptoms

        Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma that arises from the gallbladder is extremely rare, and the associated studies are not well described in the literature. We report our experience that diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of the gallbladder was diagnosed by histological findings after laparoscopic cholecystectomy in a 75-year-old man. The patient was diagnosed with stage IV lymphoma, and chemotherapy was performed following surgery. The abdominal, chest, neck computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET)-CT were performed after chemotherapy, and the results showed that there were no multiple lymphadenopathies. The patient was considered to have achieved complete remission. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of the gallbladder is extremely rare and never been diagnosis preoperatively. Pathological examination of the cholecystectomy specimen is important. This will be very helpful for identifying patients who need additional treatment.
