CMCase produced by recombinant E. coli JM109(pCEH#4) containing CMCase gene from Cellulomonas sp. YE-5 was purified to 24.3 fold and 2.6% yield by ammonium sulfate precipitation, DEAE-cellulose column chromatography and gel filtration on Sephadex G-100. The optimum pH and temperature for CMCase activity were pH 7.0 and 50℃. The enzyme was stable between pH 5.0 and 10.0, and up to 60℃. The molecular weight of the enzyme was estimated to be approximately 40,000 daltons by SDS-PAGE. Analysis of the amino acid composition showed that the enzyme contained many glycines and acidic amino acids. The enzyme was an endo-type CMCase and the final enzyme reaction product from hydrolysis of CM-cellulose by the enzyme was cellobiose. K_M value determined with CM-cellulose was 1.28mM.

Yun, Yung Sang,Uhm, Ki Il,Kim, Jee Nam,Shin, Dong Hyeok,Choi, Hyun Gon,Kim, Soon Heum,Kim, Cheol Keun,Jo, Dong In Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surge 2015 Archives of Plastic Surgery Vol.42 No.4
Background Orthognathic surgery is required in 25% to 35% of patients with a cleft lip and palate, for whom functional recovery and aesthetic improvement after surgery are important. The aim of this study was to examine maxillary and mandibular changes, along with concomitant soft tissue changes, in cleft patients who underwent LeFort I osteotomy and sagittal split ramus osteotomy (two-jaw surgery). Methods Twenty-eight cleft patients who underwent two-jaw surgery between August 2008 and November 2013 were included. Cephalometric analysis was conducted before and after surgery. Preoperative and postoperative measurements of the bone and soft tissue were compared. Results The mean horizontal advancement of the maxilla (point A) was 6.12 mm, while that of the mandible (point B) was -5.19 mm. The mean point A-nasion-point B angle was $-4.1^{\circ}$ before surgery, and increased to $2.5^{\circ}$ after surgery. The mean nasolabial angle was $72.7^{\circ}$ before surgery, and increased to $88.7^{\circ}$ after surgery. The mean minimal distance between Rickett's E-line and the upper lip was 6.52 mm before surgery and 1.81 mm after surgery. The ratio of soft tissue change to bone change was 0.55 between point A and point A' and 0.93 between point B and point B'. Conclusions Patients with cleft lip and palate who underwent two-jaw surgery showed optimal soft tissue changes. The position of the soft tissue (point A') was shifted by a distance equal to 55% of the change in the maxillary bone. Therefore, bone surgery without soft tissue correction can achieve good aesthetic results.

The aim of this study is to describe the endodontic treatment of a radix entomolaris (RE) with the C-shaped canal in mandibular first molar and a fused maxillary premolar with two supernumerary teeth with the separated root canal using cone-beam computed tomography imaging (CBCT). In our cases, non-surgical endodontic treatment based on the results of CBCT diagnosis, ProTaper rotary system, hand instrumentation, and passive ultrasonic irrigation along with periodontal treatment resulted in long-term and successful prognosis. Therefore, CBCT analysis an effective diagnostic tool for the treatment of teeth containing complex root canals.
ON COEFFICIENTS OF NILPOTENT POLYNOMIALS IN SKEW POLYNOMIAL RINGS
Nam, Sang Bok,Ryu, Sung Ju,Yun, Sang Jo The Kangwon-Kyungki Mathematical Society 2013 한국수학논문집 Vol.21 No.4
We observe the basic structure of the products of coefficients of nilpotent (left) polynomials in skew polynomial rings. This study consists of a process to extend a well-known result for semi-Armendariz rings. We introduce the concept of ${\alpha}$-skew n-semi-Armendariz ring, where ${\alpha}$ is a ring endomorphism. We prove that a ring R is ${\alpha}$-rigid if and only if the n by n upper triangular matrix ring over R is $\bar{\alpha}$-skew n-semi-Armendariz. This result are applicable to several known results.
Evidence of whole genome duplication in Panax ginseng draft sequence
Nam-Hoon Kim,Woojong Jang,Murukarthick Jayakodi,Sang-Choon Lee,Yun Sun Lee,Junki Lee,Beom-Soon Choi,Tae-Jin Yang 한국육종학회 2015 한국육종학회 심포지엄 Vol.2015 No.07
The generation and analysis of genomic resources information are essential to understand genomic features of crops. Even though medicinal component and its effect of Panax ginseng was well studied, the genomic study has been recently started. The ginseng genome has been known to undergo two rounds of whole genome duplication (WGD), therefore we investigated an evidence of WGD in ginseng draft sequence for understanding current ginseng genome structure. Four paralogous gene-rich genome blocks were found, consisted by eight scaffolds, using about 3.0 Gb whole genome draft sequence and 48,821 unigenes of P. ginseng generated by whole genome shotgun sequencing. The eight scaffold sequences were ordered and connected into four genomic blocks, using zig-zag extension within scaffold sequences recently duplicated. The paralogous scaffold pairs that were recently duplicated showed high sequence conservation in genic and non-genic regions. However, paleo duplicated paralogue scaffold sequences showed little conservation only in genic regions. Finally, a total of 110 paralogous gene pairs and its expression were identified from recently and paleo duplicated scaffold pairs, which were co-linear among four genomic blocks. This study provides the first insight into duplicated genome structure of ginseng and will be a valuable information for further ginseng genomics including improvement of draft sequence quality, chromosome anchoring of scaffolds, and genetic mapping.

Radioactive iodine and surgery are options in the treatment of patients presenting with antithyroid drug-resistant hyperthyroidism. It is necessary to normalize thyroid function prior to any procedure in order to reduce complications. Cholestyramine is effective as a short-term adjunctive agent in the treatment of thyrotoxic patients who are resistant to conventional therapy. A 22-year-old woman with severe Graves` disease was referred from a local clinic because of her refractory hyperthyroidism. She presented with exophthalmos, diffuse goiter, and tachycardia. She was treated with a maximal dose of methimazole and a beta-blocker for 2 months. However, her thyroid function test(TFT) did not improve. TFT showed a free T4 level of 74.7 ng/dL (normal range: 0.93.1.7 ng/dL) and a thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level of 0.007 μIU/mL (normal range: 0.4.4.0 μIU/mL). She was then administered cholestyramine (4 g thrice daily), hydrocortisone (300 mg/day) and methimazole (100 mg/day) which prepared the patient for surgery by reducing the free T4 level (4.7 ng/dL). The patient underwent a total thyroidectomy without experiencing thyrotoxic crisis. This case describes the use of cholestyramine for the first time in Korea in treating Graves` disease and provides limited evidence that cholestyramine can be an effective option.
