<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this paper, validation of the MC<SUP>2</SUP>-3/TWODANT/DIF3D code system with the ENDF/B-VII.0 library was performed based on two different physics experiments: BFS-75-1 and BFS-109-2A critical assemblies. Both the BFS-75-1 and BFS-109-2A physics experiments were carried out in the Russian BFS facility with collaboration between KAERI and IPPE. The BFS-75-1 critical assembly is a metal-fueled core surrounded by a depleted uranium blanket, and the BFS-109-2A critical assembly is a metal-fueled core surrounded by a steel reflector and sodium/gas plenums. The results of the multi-group MC<SUP>2</SUP>-3/TWODANT/DF3D code were compared with experiments and results of the continuous energy as-built MCNP code.</P> <P>The MC<SUP>2</SUP>-3/TWODANT/DIF3D model showed excellent agreement with experiments in the reference criticality, i.e., a 70pcm difference at the maximum. The MC<SUP>2</SUP>-3/TWODANT/DIF3D models estimated the absorber or control rod worth to be between a −6.2% and 8.6% error range vs. that of the experiments.</P> <P>A remarkable spatial spectrum transition effect was reported, especially for the BFS-109-2A critical assembly, and the TWODANT procedure successfully mitigated this effect by applying a global neutron spectrum during energy group condensation in MC<SUP>2</SUP>-3.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The MC2-3/TWODANT/DIF3D codes are validated using BFS-75-1/BFS-109-2A experiments. </LI> <LI> The codes show excellent agreement with experiments in the reference criticality. </LI> <LI> Calculated control rod worths are between a −6.2% and 8.6% error range. </LI> <LI> A remarkable spatial spectrum transition effect is observed in the BFS-109-2A. </LI> <LI> The TWODANT procedure successfully mitigated spatial spectrum transition effect. </LI> </UL> </P>

Background: The genetic variation of IL28B gene on chromosome 19 has relevance to spontaneous seroclearance and virologic response to the interferon based standard therapy of chronic hepatitis C. Up to date, however, it is not clear whether these polymorphisms of IL28B are related with disease progression of chronic hepatitis C. In this study, we aimed to determine the association between IL28B genotype and the stage of fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C. Methods: A total of 189 patients seropositive for anti-HCV were enrolled, 10 of whom had been spontaneously recovered from infection. Two SNP polymorphism of IL28B, rs8099917 and rs12979860 were investigated using RFMP genotyping and sequencing. The degree of liver fibrosis was determined by liver biopsy in 91 patients who had no definite evidence of cirrhosis in imaging studies. Results: In the whole series, rs12979860 CC, CT, TT genotype were found in 85.7%, 13.8%, 0.5% of patients, respectively, while rs8099917 genotype TT, TG, GG, in 86.2%, 13.2%, 0.5%, respectively. The rs12979860 CC genotype and reciprocative rs8099917 TT genotype were found in 154 of 179 patients with chronic HCV infection and in 9 of 10 spontaneously serocleared patients (86.0% vs. 90.0%, p=0.925). rs12979860 CC genotype was identified in 84.3% of patients with mild to moderate fibrosis (F0-F2) while in 87.7% of patients with advanced fibrosis (F3-4) (p=0.551). In rs8099917 TT genotype, each of them was 85.7% and 86.4% (p=0.901). In multivariate logistic regression analysis, the only significant factor associated with advanced liver fibrosis was age (OR 4.733, p<0.001). Conclusions: In the present study, IL28B polymorphisms (major alleles, rs12979860 CC and rs8099917 TT) were associated neither with spontaneous seroclearance nor with the progression of fibrosis. However, the small sample size of the present study warrants further prospective multicenter study to clearly the role of SNPs in the progression of chronic hepatitis C.

<P>Substantial progress in flexible or stretchable electronics over the past decade has extensively impacted various technologies such as wearable devices, displays and automotive electronics for smart cars. An important challenge is the reliability of these deformable devices under thermal stress. Different coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE) between plastic substrates and the device components, which include multiple inorganic layers of metals or ceramics, induce thermal stress in the devices during fabrication processes or long-term operations with repetitions of thermal cyclic loading-unloading, leading to device failure and reliability degradation. Here, we report an unconventional approach to form photo-patternable, transparent cellulose nanofiber (CNF) hybrid films as flexible and stretchable substrates to improve device reliability using simultaneous electrospinning and spraying. The electrospun polymeric backbones and sprayed CNF fillers enable the resulting hybrid structure to be photolithographically patternable as a negative photoresist and thermally and mechanically stable, presenting outstanding optical transparency and low CTE. We also formed stretchable origami substrates using the CNF hybrid that are composed of rigid support fixtures and elastomeric joints, exploiting the photo-patternability. A demonstration of transparent organic light-emitting diodes and touchscreen panels on the hybrid film suggests its potential for use in next-generation electronics.</P>
