In this study, the elevational distribution of breeding birds in Seoraksan National Park, Korea was investigated. Forty-six species of birds were documented from line transect surveys taken from Seorakdong at 230 m above sea level (a.s.l.) to the Daechungbong summit at 1708 m asl. Birdspecies richness and diversity were highest in Seorakdong and lowest at the Daechungbong summit. As elevation increased, bird species richness and diversity decreased, with a humped-shape trend being observed between 700 m and 1200 m a.s.l. Stepwise analyses revealed that breeding bird species diversity indices were significantly negatively correlated with elevation (r2 = 0.327, P < 0.001) and positively correlated with vegetational coverage (r2 = 0.324, P = 0.046). Higher elevations supported fewer birds than low and intermediate elevations. Projections at the local scale, including data on behavior and habitat use by birds, will be necessary for optimal conservation and management of the bird communities in Seoraksan National Park.

Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC) is an autosomal recessiveneurodegenerative disorder caused by mutation of eitherNPC1 (> 95% of cases) or NPC2.1,2 Mutations in these geneslead to massive accumulation of cholesterol and glycosphingolipidswithin late endosomes and lysosomes.

Objective: The objective was to identify risk factors for nephrocalcinosis in very low birth weight (VLBW) infants. Methods: Prospective study has done between 2014 and 2017. The study included 81 VLBW infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Renal ultrasonography was performed at four weeks and 3 months. Baseline characteristics, complications and medication during NICU admission were collected. 25-(OH)-vitamin D, calcium, phosphorous, alkaline phosphatase, urine calcium to creatinine ratio were serially measured. Results: The incidence of nephrocalcinosis was 16.9%. On univariate analysis, gestational age, lower birth weight, maternal pregnancy-induced hypertension, neonatal sepsis, and frequency of vancomycin and caffeine citrate treatment were significantly associated with nephrocalcinosis. In addition, preterm infants with nephrocalcinosis had lower cord blood 25-(OH)-vitamin D and serum calcium levels and higher serum alkaline phosphatase levels at 2 weeks of life. Multivariate analysis showed that gestational age (P=0.042), birth weight (P=0.019), sepsis (P=0.046), small for gestational age (P=0.015), and maternal pregnancy-induced hypertension (P=0.024) were significant risk factors for nephrocalcinosis. Conclusion: This study suggests that neonatal sepsis and maternal pregnancy-induced hypertension, in addition to gestational age and birth weight are important perinatal risk factors for nephrocalcinosis.
Fault Current Limiting Characteristics of Flux-lock Type SFCL with Several Secondary Windings
Sung-Hun Lim,한병성,조용선,최효상,박형민,Chung-Ryul Park 한국전기전자재료학회 2005 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.6 No.5
We investigated fault current limiting characteristics of the flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL), which consisted of a primary winding and several secondary windings connected in series between high-TC superconducting (HTSC) thin films. Each YBCO thin film has a 2 mm wide and 42 cm long meander line with 14 stripes of different length. The power imbalance due to the slight difference of IC between YBCO current limiting elements causes the significant power burden on YBCO element with lower IC. We confirmed from our experiments that the mutual coupling between the primary winding and secondary windings of the flux-lock type SFCL reduced the power imbalance between YBCO current limiting elements compared with the resistive type SFCL connected in series.

A burst fracture refers to the fracture of the anterior and middle vertebral columns which are moving into the spinal canal causing neurological impairments, generally requiring surgical treatment. We herein report a rare case of burst fracture with kissing spine in a 90-year-old man who had severe lower back pain that worsened during back extension. Considering the surgical treatment risk, he was hospitalized at a Korean medicine hospital for 85 days and underwent combined Korean medicine treatments including pharmacopuncture, herbal medicine, chuna, deep-fascia meridian therapy, walking practice, and abdominal breathing. Based on patient-reported scales, his pain was alleviated, and his physical function improved. Furthermore, his range of motion and walking time increased. This case report suggests that combined Korean medicine treatments could be an effective alternative for patients with burst fracture who have surgery risks.
