The XylH gene (1,167-bp) encoding a novel hemicellulase (41,584 Da) was identified from the genome of Microbacterium trichothecenolyticum HY-17, a gastrointestinal bacterium of Gryllotalpa orientalis. The enzyme consisted of a single catalytic domain, which is 74% identical to that of an endo-β-1,4-xylanase (GH10) from Isoptericola variabilis 225. Unlike other endo-β- 1,4-xylanases from invertebrate-symbiotic bacteria, rXylH was an alkali-tolerant multifunctional enzyme possessing endo-β-1,4-xylanase activity together with β-1,3/β-1,4- glucanase activity, which exhibited its highest xylanolytic activity at pH 9.0 and 60oC, and was relatively stable within a broad pH range of 5.0-10.0. The susceptibilities of different xylosebased polysaccharides to the XylH were assessed to be as follows: oat spelts xylan > beechwood xylan > birchwood xylan > wheat arabinoxylan. rXylH was also able to readily cleave p-nitrophenyl (pNP) cellobioside and pNP-xylopyranoside, but did not hydrolyze other pNP-sugar derivatives, xylobiose, or hexose-based materials. Enzymatic hydrolysis of birchwood xylan resulted in the product composition of xylobiose (71.2%) and xylotriose (28.8%) as end products.
A meshless geometric multigrid method for a grid with a high aspect ratio

In this paper, a new semi-coarsening method is proposed by extending the meshless geometric multigrid method based on full-coarsening for an anisotropic unstructured mesh. The present semi-coarsening method is based on the distance weighting for a finite volume grid and validated by solving the pressure equation of CUPID, which is a CFD code with an unstructured grid. Although the present semi-coarsening method requires more coarsening steps than the full-coarsening method to build the coarsest grid, the numbers of V-cycles required to the convergence are nearly the same for the two methods. Therefore, the proposed semi-coarsening method is found to perform much better than the conventional full-coarsening method when an unstructured grid with a high aspect ratio is involved in the V-cycle multi-grid computation. Furthermore, the present method works well with a hybrid mesh, where brick elements with high aspect ratios near the wall boundary are coupled with isotropic tetrahedrons.

Background: Dermatofibroma (DF) comprises a heterogeneous group of mesenchymal tumors, with fibroblastic and histiocytic elements present in varying proportions. The cell of origin of DF has been investigated, but remains unclear. Objective: The present study attempted to investigate the expression of leukocyte-specific protein 1 (LSP1), a marker of fibrocytes, in DF. Additionally, we evaluated the effectiveness of LSP1 in the differential diagnosis of DF from dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP). Methods: Immunohistochemical staining was performed on 20 cases of DF using antibodies against LSP1, CD68, and factor XIIIa (FXIIIa). In addition, the expression of LSP1 and FXIIIa was evaluated in 20 cases of DFSP. Results: Eighteen of 20 cases (90%) of DF stained positive for LSP1, with variation in the intensity of expression. CD68 was positive in 10 cases (50%), and FXIIIa was expressed in all cases of DF. There were differences between the regional expression patterns of the three markers in individual tumors. In contrast, only 2 of 20 cases of DFSP expressed LSP1, and none of DFSP cases stained positive for FXIIIa. Conclusion: The LSP1-positive cells in DF could potentially be fibrocyte-like cells. FXIIIa and CD68 expression suggests that dermal dendritic cells and histiocytes are constituent cells of DF. It is known that fibrocytes, dermal dendritic cells and histiocytes are all derived from CD14+ monocytes. Therefore, we suggest that DF may originate from CD14+ monocytes. Additionally, the LSP1 immunohistochemical stain could be useful in distinguishing between DF and DFSP. (Ann Dermatol 27(2) 157∼162, 2015)

Automatic Generation of Training Character Samples for OCR Systems

In this paper, we propose a novel method that automatically generates real character images to familiarize existing OCR systems with new fonts. At first, we generate synthetic character images using a simple degradation model. The synthetic data is used to train an OCR engine, and the trained OCR is used to recognize and label real character images that are segmented from ideal document images. Since the OCR engine is unable to recognize accurately all real character images, a substring matching method is employed to fix wrongly labeled characters by comparing two strings; one is the string grouped by recognized characters in an ideal document image, and the other is the ordered string of characters which we are considering to train and recognize. Based on our method, we build a system that automatically generates 2350 most common Korean and 117 alphanumeric characters from new fonts. The ideal document images used in the system are postal envelope images with characters printed in ascending order of their codes. The proposed system achieved a labeling accuracy of 99%. Therefore, we believe that our system is effective in facilitating the generation of numerous character samples to enhance the recognition rate of existing OCR systems for fonts that have never been trained.

연구목적: 본 논문은 국내 중소 수출기업의 SNS(Social Network Service)를 활용한 해외 마케팅 활동과 관련하여 기업의 영향요인, SNS 활용수준, 그리고 그에 따른 수출성과 간의 관계를 통합적으로 살펴볼 수 있는 분석 모델을 제시하는데 연구의 목적이 있다. 논문구성/논리: SNS는 B2C, B2B 거래는 물론 국제전자상거래(cross-border e-Commerce: CBEC)에 있어 매우 중요한 마케팅 수단으로 등장했다. 그러나 국내 중소 수출기업의 SNS 해외 마케팅 활동과 관련한 실증 분석은 상대적으로 미흡하다. 이에 본 논문에서는 선행연구를 바탕으로 기업의 영향요인(내부, 외부)이 SNS 활용수준(범위, 정도)에미치는 영향, 그리고 SNS 활용수준이 수출성과(직접, 간접)에 미치는 영향을 보다 체계적으로 살펴볼 수 있는 통합적 분석 모델을 제시하였다. 결과: 기업의 내부요인으로는 CEO 의지, 상품 적합성, 조직 학습지향성을, 외부요인으로는 무역유관기관 지원, 산업내 경쟁강도를 각각 측정변수로 도출하였다. 또한 SNS활용수준과 관련하여 활용정도 및 활용범위를, 그리고 그에 따른 수출성과와 관련하여 직접성과는 수출매출액 증가, 마케팅비용 절감을, 간접성과는 브랜드 인지도 상승, 구매자와의 관계 개선을 각각 측정변수로 도출하였다. 독창성/가치: 본 논문에서 제시된 통합적인 분석 모델은 제한된 연구범위와 방법론을가졌던 기존 선행연구의 한계점을 보완하고, 실무적, 정책적으로 의미 있는 실증적인분석 결과를 도출할 수 있다는 점에서 큰 의미를 지닌다고 할 수 있다. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to suggest a two-stage analysis model based on a meticulous review of previous studies, which could be empirically tested to identify the relationship between internal and external factors, the scope and extent of SNS use, and the direct and indirect performance of Korean exporting SMEs in their overseas marketing activities. Composition/Logic: Small and medium-sized exporters could enjoy many benefits from the use of SNS for their B2C and B2B businesses and even cross-border e-commerce (CBEC) with relatively low costs and high performance. Findings: Unfortunately, however, most SNS marketing studies have focused on the domestic B2C business. The number of studies on the factors affecting the use and performance of SNS, especially in overseas marketing of Korean exporting SMEs, is insufficient. Originality/Value: Our proposed research model makes a strong point to integrate the previous studies, which have their own limitations theoretically and empirically, including research scope and methods.
