주정폐수 처리를 위한 상향류식 혐기성 생물전기화학 반응조에 대한 전극배치의 영향

상향류식 혐기성 생물전기화학 반응조(upflow anaerobic bioelectrochemical reactor, UABE)를 이용하여 주정폐수를 유기물부하율 16 g COD/L.d에서 처리하는 동안 pH, 알카리도, 유기산 등의 상태변수들의 변화와 COD 제거율, 비메탄발생량 및 메탄함량에 대한 전극배치의 영향을 평가하였으며, 그 성능을 UASB 반응조와 비교하였다. 면적이 27 m<sup>2</sup>/m<sup>3</sup>인 전극을 나선형으로 UABE 반응조 전체 공간에 고르게 배치하였을 때 비메탄발 생율은 5.78 L/L.d로서, 전극을 설치하지 않은 UASB 반응조의 3.49 L/L.d보다 약 65.6%로 높았다. 이것은 UABE 반응조에 전기활성미생물이 성장하여 직접 종간전자전달(direct interspecies electron transfer, DIET) 반응이 활성화됨으로서 메탄생성반응이 크게 향상되었다는 것을 의미한다. UABE 반응조의 상부 1/3의 공간에 위치한 전극을 제거하였을 때, 비메탄발생율은 5.74 L/L.d로서 반응조 전체 공간에 전극을 설치한 경우와 큰 차이가 없으나, UABE 반응조 상부 2/3 공간에 설치한 전극을 제거한 경우 비메탄발생율은 5.34 L/L.d로 약 7.5% 감소하였다. 이 결과는 UABE 반응조에서 전극을 하부 1/3의 공간에만 설치한 경우 전기활성미생물도 감소하여 DIET 반응도 감소하였다는 것을 의미한다. 전극을 UABE 반응조 하부로부터 2/3 이상의 공간까지 설치하였을때 COD 제거율은 약 91.5%이었으나 반응조 하부로부터 1/3의 공간에만 설치한 경우 COD 제거율은 88.9%로 약 2.6%로 감소하였다.

Accurately predicting the fatigue life is the basis for the reliability and lightweight design of automobile parts. However, the predicted lives under service loadings on the basis of the S-N curve from constant amplitude loads from existingmethods often seems conservative compared with real lives, because of ignoring the strengthening effect of loads belowfatigue limit. In this paper, a fatigue damage model, which is modification of Miner's Rule, was established for the fatigueassessment under service loadings by means of taking into account the strengthening and damaging effects of loads belowfatigue limit. Then this model and conventional Miner's Rule are applied to the estimate the fatigue life of a torsion beam rearaxle using the loading history recorded on proving ground. Finally, verification tests are performed on MTS road loadsimulator test bed. Results of predicted lives and fatigue tests demonstrate that the accuracy of the predicted life could begreatly improved by taking into account the strengthening and damaging effect of loads below fatigue limit.

A novel route combining the reactive spark plasma sintering (R-SPS) and HfSi<SUB>2</SUB>-C powders was proposed for fabricating dense and nano-structured HfC-SiC composites. Ultra-fine and homogeneously distributed HfC (310nm) and SiC (210nm) grains were obtained after sintering at 1750<SUP>o</SUP>C, which were attributed to the molecular-level homogeneity of Si and Hf in HfSi<SUB>2</SUB>, the high-energy ball-milling of raw powders and low sintering temperature by R-SPS. The fracture toughness of the composites was improved up to 3MPam<SUP>½</SUP> because of the homogeneous distribution of HfC and SiC grains and consequent enhancement of crack deflection.
R&D Status of High-current Accelerators at IFP

High-current accelerators have many important applications in Z-pinches, high-power microwaves, and free electron lasers, imploding liners and radiography and so on. Research activities on Zpinches, imploding liners, radiography at the Institute of Fluid Physics (IFP) are introduced. Several main high-current accelerators developed and being developed at IFP are described, such as the Linear Induction Accelerator X-Ray Facility Upgrade (LIAXFU, 12 MeV, 2.5 kA, 90 ns), the Dragon-I linear induction accelerator (20 MeV, 2.5 kA, 60 ns), and the Primary Test Stand for Z-pinch (PTS, 10 MA, 120 ns). The design of Dragon-II linear induction accelerator (20 MeV, 2.5 kA, 3 × 60 ns) to be built will be presented briefly.
TEM investigation of hydrogen-implanted and annealed single-crystal SrTiO3

In this study, the structural properties of single-crystal SrTiO3 implanted with H+ have been investigated by transmission electronmicrocopy (TEM). The investigation was carried out on an as-implanted sample and samples after annealing at 500.C and 700 .Cfrom the implanted energy similar to the process in the case of silicon. The as-implanted sample shows large out-of-plane strain alsosimilar to the report in silicon. The microcavities are lled with amorphous material as the result of complicated interaction of the defectsduring the annealing.

<P>The role of astrocytes in brain plasticity has not been extensively studied compared with that of neurons. Here we adopted integrative translational and reverse-translational approaches to explore the role of an astrocyte-specific major water channel in the brain, aquaporin-4 (AQP4), in brain plasticity and learning. We initially identified the most prevalent genetic variant of AQP4 (single nucleotide polymorphism of rs162008 with C or T variation, which has a minor allele frequency of 0.21) from a human database (n = 60 706) and examined its functionality in modulating the expression level of AQP4 in an in vitro luciferase reporter assay. In the following experiments, AQP4 knock-down in mice not only impaired hippocampal volumetric plasticity after exposure to enriched environment but also caused loss of long-term potentiation after theta-burst stimulation. In humans, there was a cross-sectional association of rs162008 with gray matter (GM) volume variation in cortices, including the vicinity of the Perisylvian heteromodal language area (Sample 1, n = 650). GM volume variation in these brain regions was positively associated with the semantic verbal fluency. In a prospective follow-up study (Sample 2, n = 45), the effects of an intensive 5-week foreign language (English) learning experience on regional GM volume increase were modulated by this AQP4 variant, which was also associated with verbal learning capacity change. We then delineated in mice mechanisms that included AQP4-dependent transient astrocytic volume changes and astrocytic structural elaboration. We believe our study provides the first integrative evidence for a gliogenetic basis that involves AQP4, underlying language-associated brain plasticity.</P>

This paper presents a novel version of an active voltage clamped ZVS-PWM high frequency inverter using IGBTS for electromagnetic induction eddy current-based rolling drum heating in new generation copy and printing machines in consumer business use The operating principle of this inverter circuit and unique features are described herein Its constant frequency duty cycle (asymmetrical PWM) controlled voltage source quasi-resonant soft switching high frequency inverter employing IGBTS is proposed, which is capable of achieving stable and efficient zero voltage soft switching commutation over a widely specified power regulation range from full power to low power The operating performances in a steady state of this inverter is discussed and evaluated on basis of simulation and experimental results as an induction heated roller in new generation copy machine.<br/>
