Growth of ZnO nanodisk, nanospindles and nanoflowers for gas sensor: pH dependency

        RAJENDRA CHARANDEO PAWAR,J.S. Shaikh,S. S. Suryavanshi,P.S. Patil 한국물리학회 2012 Current Applied Physics Vol.12 No.3

Suitable morphology for fast electron transportation is a crucial requirement for the fabrication of gas sensor application. Highly oriented and well defined zinc oxide (ZnO) nano/micro-scale structures are grown on the glass substrates using aqueous chemical route. The grown nanostructures have been characterized by X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and optical absorption techniques. The SEM micrographs revealed the formation of disk, rod, spindle and flower-like morphologies at different pH values ranging from 5 to 10. The grown nanostructures were employed for acetone gas-sensing measurement. It is observed that the sensors based on nanoflowers showed higher response (95%) for acetone gas at 325 ℃. The high acetone gas sensitivity of ZnO nanoflowers can be attributed to the surface morphology. Moreover, nanoflower-like structure exhibits the fast response and recovery.

        Rajendra Hodgir,Yash Gopal Mittal,Pushkar Kamble,Gopal Gote,Yogesh Patil,Ashik Kumar Patel,K. P. Karunakaran 한국정밀공학회 2023 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.24 No.5

Rapid casting (RC) is a phrase that refers to a specific casting process technique that reduces total production lead time. The technique for achieving it is Additive Manufacturing (AM) or Rapid Prototyping (RP). AM techniques were employed for RC to create complex shapes and sand a 3D mould from a CAD model. This article aimed to examine the performance of Rapid Ice Investment Casting (RIIC) compared with other RC processes such as Direct Wax Investment Casting (Direct Wax IC), Lost Foam Casting (LFC), Lost PLA Casting (LPC), and Rapid Sand Casting (RSC). This investigation examines the part which has various geometric features. Each casting route's procedure is described in detail; pattern development, slurry preparation and mould making. Comparison of RIIC with other RC processes is studied based on the cast specimen's dimensional accuracy and surface finish. According to the findings, RIIC is preferable in terms of smooth surface finish, whereas Direct Wax IC and LFC are superior in dimensional accuracy. The article also addresses, the shortcomings of RIIC are discussed in this article, as well as proposed methods to overcome them.

A comparative study of smica in various body fluids of diagnosed cervical cancer patients and healthy women

        ( Pooja A. Pachani ),( Rajendra R. Godbole ),( Jeevitaa Kshersagar ),( Rakhi Jagdale ),( Amita Gosavi ),( Somshekhar Patil ),( Rakesh K Sharma ),( Meghnad G. Joshi ) 대한산부인과학회 2022 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.65 No.1

Objective Cervical cancer (CC) is a major public health problem in women, and its early detection can help reduce morbidity and mortality. The objective of this study was to compare serum levels of soluble major histocompatibility complex class I-related chain A (sMICA) levels in various body fluids between women diagnosed with CC and healthy women. Methods A case-control study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital and a cancer center in Kolhapur, India. Overall, 150 individuals (100 CC patients and 50 healthy women) participated after providing informed written consent. Demographic data, histopathology history, parity, and tumor, node, and metastasis (TNM) staging data were collected. Pap smears, saliva, blood, and urine samples were collected. Pap smears were examined microscopically, and sMICA levels in all samples were determined by enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA). Results The mean age of women with cervical cancer was 49.86±8.18 years. Squamous cell carcinoma (70%) was the most common histological variant in CC patients. Serum soluble sMICA levels differed significantly with parity and TNM staging (P<0.05). Mean levels of sMICA were significantly different in samples (CC cases vs. healthy patients; saliva: 166.721±108.718 vs. 0.039±0.005 pg/mL; urine: 82.921±45.580 vs. 0.010±0.005 pg/mL; serum: 35.756±10.799 vs. 0.039±0.005 pg/mL, P<0.001). Conclusion Levels of sMICA in body fluids can be considered as a diagnostic or prognostic tool to determine disease progression or tumor regression.

      • Efficient decontamination of toxic phenol pollutant using LaCO3OH nanowires decorated Ag3PO4 hierarchical composites mediated by metallic Ag

Deonikar, Virendrakumar G.,Mujmule, Rajendra B.,Patil, Deepak R.,Kim, Hern Elsevier 2019 The Science of the total environment Vol.675 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>With the aim to develop an eco-friendly, efficient and stable photocatalyst, the present work reports the synthesis of Ag3PO4/LaCO3OH (AP/LC) heterojunction photocatalysts. Different weight ratios of AP/(x wt% LC) were tested to find the best composition for superior photocatalytic activity for dye pollutant degradation. AP/LC (20 wt%) revealed a superior photocatalytic activity. Hence it was selected for further analyses. Furthermore, we investigated the influence of distilled water: tetrahydrofuran (DW:TF) solvent system on the morphology as well as photocatalytic activities of AP/LC (20%) heterojunction. FESEM analysis shows that the morphology of AP/LC heterojunctions varied significantly with TF:DW ratio. Sphere-shaped like nanoparticles of LC transformed into nanowires to make intimate contact with AP polyhedras. The increase of TF with respect to DW results increase in the width of wire-like dimension of LC causes loose intimate contact within AP/LC heterojunction. The photocatalytic performance of AP/LC heterojunctions were tested against degradation of toxic phenol contaminant, and the outstanding photocatalytic activity was noticed for the AP/LC-2 photocatalyst (~99% degradation in 120 min) with a rate constant, <I>k</I> of 1.281 × 10−2 min−1. The improved photocatalytic performance can be attributed to the uniform decoration of LC nanowires on the AP microstructure which leads to intimate interface within the heterojunction and effective charge separation. The recyclability of the AP/LC-2 photocatalysts was evaluated via replicated photocatalytic reaction trials.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A mixed solvent (DW:TF) varied strategy used to synthesize Ag3PO4/LaCO3OH (AP/LC) heterostructure photocatalysts. </LI> <LI> A tactic of mixed solvent system helped to tune the morphology, overall properties of AP/LC heterostructures. </LI> <LI> Spherical LC nanoparticles transformed into fine nanowires (in DW:TF=60:40 ratio) to make intimate contact with AP. </LI> <LI> Modified AP/LC heterostructure showed superior photocatalytic efficiency for phenol degradation. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

The Dietary Food Components Capric Acid and Caprylic Acid Inhibit Virulence Factors in Candida albicans Through Multitargeting

        Ashwini Jadhav,Supriya Mortale,Shivkrupa Halbandge,Priyanka Jangid,Rajendra Patil,Wasudev Gade,Kiran Kharat,Sankunny Mohan Karuppayil 한국식품영양과학회 2017 Journal of medicinal food Vol.20 No.11

Capric acid and caprylic acid are the dietary food components. They are found to inhibit the virulence factors like morphogenesis, adhesion, and biofilm formation in the human pathogenic yeast Candida albicans. Our study demonstrated that yeast-to-hyphal signal transduction pathways were affected by capric acid and caprylic acid. The expression profile of genes associated with serum-induced morphogenesis showed reduced expressions of Cdc35, Hwp1, Hst7, and Cph1 by the treatment with both the fatty acids. Cell elongation gene, Ece1, was surprisingly downregulated by 5208-fold by the treatment of caprylic acid. Nrg1 and Tup1, negative regulators of hyphal formation, were overexpressed in presence of capric or caprylic acid. Cell cycle studies revealed that capric and caprylic acids arrested cell cycle at G2/M and S phase. Targeting the virulence factors like yeast-to-hyphal transition is efficacious for treatment of opportunistic fungal infections. This research suggests that both capric and caprylic acid may be effective interventions for treating C. albicans yeast infections.

The use of precontoured plates for midshaft clavicle fractures is not always the best course of treatment

        Manmohan Patel,Mohtashim Ahmad,Natwar Agrawal,Sumit Tulshidas Patil,John Ashutosh Santoshi,Bertha Rathinam,Kusum Rajendra Gandhi 대한해부학회 2023 Anatomy & Cell Biology Vol.56 No.4

Plate fixation has become the preferred approach for treating displaced midshaft clavicle fractures. However, plate fixation of the clavicle presents several unique challenges, including its complex bony architecture and its immediatesubcutaneous location. In many cases, we have observed that precontoured implants do not conform to the clavicularanatomy, and many patients complain of postoperative implant-related discomfort. A total of 111 clavicles, both left andright sides, were examined to match two commonly used designs of anatomical pre-contoured superior anterior clavicleplates, with and without lateral extension. The anteroposterior (AP) plane congruence of the plate to the underlying bone, thevertical gap between the bone and plate, and the length of the plate that was off the bone either anteriorly and/or posteriorlyat both ends of the clavicle were measured. The scoring system was used to determine the fit of the implant on the clavicle asanatomic, good, or poor. We found that the maximum superior bow of the clavicle was lateral to the midline by 30.75 mmand 30.5 mm on the right and left sides, respectively. The magnitude of the bow was 4.28 mm and 4.46 mm on the right andleft sides, respectively. We also found that the plate was a poor fit in 75.86% of cases on the left side and 73.5% of cases on theright side. Manipulating the plates during surgery was very difficult in the AP plane.

        Gunjal, Datta B.,Gurav, Yogesh M.,Gore, Anil H.,Naik, Vaibhav M.,Waghmare, Ravindra D.,Patil, Chandrashekhar S.,Sohn, Daewon,Anbhule, Prashant V.,Shejwal, Rajendra V.,Kolekar, Govind B. North-Holland 2019 Optical materials Vol.98 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this work, waste tea residue, abundantly accessible, is utilized for synthesis of fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) by a simple, low cost and one step chemical oxidation method. The optical properties, surface functionality and particle size of CDs were ascertained by various techniques. The CDs exhibited excellent water solubility, optical properties, bioimaging ability etc. The fluorescence intensity of the CDs was diminished gradually with increasing concentrations of tetracycline drug owing to the inner filter effect (IFE) phenomenon. The developed fluorescent probe displayed a better linear range, excellent detection limit and interference free response to the tetracycline. This resulted in quantification of tetracycline in real sample which achieved almost 99% recoveries indicated excellent practical potential. Moreover, the CDs were used as fluorescent label for multicolour imaging of yeast cells which could open the doors for further research in biological fields.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Carbon Dots derived from waste tea residue by simple reflux method. </LI> <LI> Determination of Tetracycline by fluorescence quenching through inner filter mechanism. </LI> <LI> Simple, sensitive and interference free method. </LI> <LI> Carbon dots as a fluorescent label for multicolour cell imaging. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>Schematic of synthesis of CDs and inner filter effect based detection of tetracycline.</P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
