      • Dependence of the properties of hydrothermally grown ZnO on precursor concentration

        Zhao, X.,Lee, J.Y.,Kim, C.-R.,Heo, J.,Shin, C.M.,Leem, J.-Y.,Ryu, H.,Chang, J.-H.,Lee, H.C.,Jung, W.-G.,Son, C.-S.,Shin, B.C.,Lee, W.-J.,Tan, S.T.,Zhao, J.,Sun, X. North-Holland 2009 Physica E, Low-dimensional systems & nanostructure Vol.41 No.8

This study evaluated the effects of precursor concentration ranging from 0.06 to 1.5M on the properties of hydrothermally grown ZnO on annealed ZnO buffered Si substrates. At relatively low concentrations (no more than 0.5M), well-aligned ZnO arrays were grown on ZnO/Si(100) due to heterogeneous nucleation. As the concentration was increased to 1.0M, the morphologies changed to randomly accumulated particles as a result of homogeneous nucleation. The crystal and optical properties of the materials were investigated by X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and photoluminescence (PL) measurement, respectively. It was found that the best crystal and optical properties were obtained with concentrations of 0.5 and 0.3M, respectively. These properties were observed to degrade when the concentration was raised to more than 1.0M.

      • Grazing Incidence X - ray Diffraction (GIXRD) Studies of the Structure of Si₁_xGex / Si Surface Alloy

        Y. Shi,R. Zhao,C. Z. Jiang,X. J. Fan 한국진공학회(ASCT) 2002 Journal of Korean Vacuum Science & Technology Vol.6 No.2

The Si_(1-x)Ge_x/Si surface alloy (x = 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5), which are prepared by solid source MBE and have the SiGe epilayer thickness of 50Å, are annealed with different parameters. The surface structure analyses of the heterostructure samples are made on a triple-axis X-ray diffractometer in grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXRD) geometry. It has been found that with different annealing time (1.5h, 18h, 64h) and annealing temperature (550℃, 750℃), the SiGe epilayer experienced different strain relaxation process, which was deduced from the GIXRD measurements of the in-plane (220) diffraction peak of Si(001) substrate and the relevant (220) surface diffraction of SiGe epilayer. The results show that the stress relieving and the lateral strain relaxation in the SiGe/Si heterostructure can be promoted by correct annealing, which is very helpful for the preparation of SiGe/Si strained superlattice with fine strain crystallization.

      • Transcriptomic profiling reveals hepatic stem‐like gene signatures and interplay of miR‐200c and epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma

        Oishi, Naoki,Kumar, Mia R.,Roessler, Stephanie,Ji, Junfang,Forgues, Marshonna,Budhu, Anuradha,Zhao, Xuelian,Andersen, Jesper B.,Ye, Qing&#x2010,Hai,Jia, Hu&#x2010,Liang,Qin, Lun&#x2010,Xiu,Yamashita, Wiley Subscription Services, Inc., A Wiley Company 2012 Hepatology Vol.56 No.5

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Intrahepatic cholangiocellular carcinoma (ICC) is the second most common type of primary liver cancer. However, its tumor heterogeneity and molecular characteristics are largely unknown. In this study, we conducted transcriptomic profiling of 23 ICC and combined hepatocellular cholangiocarcinoma tumor specimens from Asian patients using Affymetrix messenger RNA (mRNA) and NanoString microRNA microarrays to search for unique gene signatures linked to tumor subtypes and patient prognosis. We validated the signatures in an additional 68 ICC cases derived from Caucasian patients. We found that both mRNA and microRNA expression profiles could independently classify Asian ICC cases into two main subgroups, one of which shared gene expression signatures with previously identified hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with stem cell gene expression traits. ICC‐specific gene signatures could predict survival in Asian HCC cases and independently in Caucasian ICC cases. Integrative analyses of the ICC‐specific mRNA and microRNA expression profiles revealed that a common signaling pathway linking miR‐200c signaling to epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) was preferentially activated in ICC with stem cell gene expression traits. Inactivation of miR‐200c resulted in an induction of EMT, whereas activation of miR‐200c led to a reduction of EMT including a reduced cell migration and invasion in ICC cells. We also found that miR‐200c and neural cell adhesion molecule 1 (NCAM1) expression were negatively correlated and their expression levels were predictive of survival in ICC samples. NCAM1, a known hepatic stem/progenitor cell marker, was experimentally demonstrated to be a direct target of miR‐200c. Conclusion: Our results indicate that ICC and HCC share common stem‐like molecular characteristics and poor prognosis. We suggest that the specific components of EMT may be exploited as critical biomarkers and clinically relevant therapeutic targets for an aggressive form of stem cell‐like ICC. • Effects of galacto-oligosaccharides and a bifidobacteria lactis-based probiotic strain on the growth performance and fecal microflora of broiler chickens.

        Jung, S J,Houde, R,Baurhoo, B,Zhao, X,Lee, B H Poultry Science Association, etc 2008 Poultry science Vol.87 No.9

<P>A galacto-oligosaccharide (GOS) prebiotic was prepared by reacting a high concentration of lactose (40% wt/vol) with a beta-galactosidase enzyme for 24 h at 37 degrees C. The enzyme was produced from recombinant Pichia pastoris X-33 cells. The study aimed at evaluating the effects of the prebiotic, a Bifidobacterium lactis-based probiotic, and the combination of these dietary additives on BW, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, and fecal counts of total anaerobic bacteria, lactobacilli, and bifidobacteria in broiler chickens. No significant differences in BW, feed intake and feed conversion ratio were found among the various groups. The study showed that GOS selectively stimulated the fecal microflora of broiler chickens. Total anaerobic bacteria and lactobacilli were increased by 3.4- and 3.56-fold, respectively, in chickens fed the diet containing GOS (3 kg per 25 kg) and B. lactis for 40 d compared with those fed the control diet. The bifidobacteria population in chickens fed the diet containing GOS (3 kg per 25 kg) and B. lactis significantly increased 21-fold in comparison to the control-fed birds. In particular, increasing the dietary concentration of GOS was accompanied by significant increases (P < 0.05) in bifidobacteria counts. The detectable population of bifidobacteria was also greater (P < 0.05) in chickens fed the diet containing GOS and bifidobacteria when compared with chickens fed a bifidobacteria-containing ration only. These results suggest that using GOS in combination with a B. lactis-based probiotic favored intestinal growth of bifidobacteria in broiler chickens.</P>

      • Pre-sodiated nickel cobaltite for high-performance sodium-ion capacitors

        Yang, D.,Sun, X.,Lim, K.,Ranganathan Gaddam, R.,Ashok Kumar, N.,Kang, K.,Zhao, X.S. Elsevier Sequoia 2017 Journal of Power Sources Vol.362 No.-

Sodium-ion capacitors (NICs) are a hybrid energy storage system that store energy via both charge adsorption at the cathode/electrolyte interface and charge intercalation in the bulk of the anode, thereby possessing a higher energy density than supercapacitors and a higher power density than batteries. In this work, nickel cobaltite (NiCo2O4) hollow spheres with a chestnut shell morphology have been solvothermally synthesized and tested in a sodium half-cell. The NiCo2O4 material exhibits a reversible capacity of 313 mAh g-1 at 1 A g-1. Pre-sodiation of NiCo2O4 is found to significantly improve its energy density. A NIC fabricated with pre-sodiated NiCo2O4 as the anode and an activated carbon (AC) as the cathode delivers an energy density of 60 Wh kg-1 at the power density of 10,000 W kg-1. Ex-situ X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results reveal that NiCo2O4 is converted to metallic nickel and cobalt and Na2O phases during the pre-sodiation. The metallic nickel and cobalt phases are kinetically favourable for the electrolyte diffusion and electrochemical reactions, thus significantly improving the performance of the pre-sodiated NiCo2O4 electrode.

Effects of Buffer Layer Annealing on ZnO Thin Films Grown by using Atomic Layer Deposition

        J. Y. Leem,C. R. Kim,J. H. Heo,C. M. Shin,J. H. Park,T. M. Lee,류혁현,J. H. Chang,C. S. Son,B. C. Shin,W. J. Lee,S. T. Tan,J. L. Zhao,X. W. Sun 한국물리학회 2009 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.55 No.6

In this study, the effects of buffer layer annealing duration on ZnO thin films deposited by using the remote plasma atomic layer deposition (ALD) method are discussed. ZnO thin films were grown on ZnO-buffer/Si (100) and were annealed for various durations between 0.5 and 60 min. The structural and the optical properties of the ZnO thin films were investigated by using atomic force microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and photoluminescence measurements. The ZnO thin films grown on a rough ZnO buffer layer were found to have high optical quality. The results from this study possibly contribute to advances in ZnO-base LED technologies.

THREE-DIMENSIONAL VEHICLE ATTITUDE ESTIMATION USING MODIFIED INVASIVE WEED OPTIMIZED PARTICLE FILTER

        X. M. ZHAO,L. YANG,F. HUI,X. SHI,R. R. HAO,W. X. WANG 한국자동차공학회 2014 International journal of automotive technology Vol.15 No.7

In this paper, a novel attitude estimation approach for the vehicle using a modified invasive weed optimizedparticle filter is studied, and it can be applied to provide the vehicle angle accurately. A modified invasive weed optimization(MIWO), being added a control envelope in the standard deviation of the invasive weed optimization (IWO) to improve theconvergence speed and avoid the conventional IWO plunging in the local optimal solution, is introduced in the samplingprocess of the particle filter. The proposed particle filter makes particles reproduced dynamically by their fitness in a nearbyspace, and optimizes the particle population of optimal weights to let particles move towards the regions where they have thegreat values of the posterior probability density. Within the framework of the proposed particle filter, the modified Rodriguesparameters (MRPs) associated with the angular velocity of a gyro are included in a state vector, and the outputs of theaccelerometer and magnetometer are regarded as the observation vector which is used for correcting the errors of the angularvelocity measurement. The simulation results show that the suggested particle filter can enhance the accuracy of the stateestimation compared with other improved particle filters. The experimental results prove that the attitude errors using thepresented method are significantly reduced by comparing to that obtained from the extended Kalman filter and the classicparticle filter.

Effect of night light regimen on growth performance, antioxidant status and health of broiler chickens from 1 to 21 days of age

        R.X. Zhao,C.H. Cai,P. Wang,L. Zheng,J.S. Wang,K.X. Li,W. Liu,X.Y. Guo,X. A. Zhan,K.Y. Wang 아세아·태평양축산학회 2019 Animal Bioscience Vol.32 No.6

Objective: The study was conducted to evaluate the effects of night light regimen on growth performance, antioxidant status and health of Lingnan Yellow broiler chickens from 1 to 21 days of age. Methods: A completely randomized factorial design involved 2 photoperiods (constant lighting [CL], 24 L:0 D and intermittent lighting [INL], 17 L:3 D:1 L:3 D)×2 light intensities (10 lx and 30 lx). A total of one thousand six hundred and eighty 1-d-old Lingnan Yellow broiler chicks were randomly divided into 4 treatments with 6 replicates (70 birds per replicate). The experiment lasted for 21 d. Results: Photoperiods and light intensities had no effect on average daily gain, feed conversion ratio, and mortality of the broiler chickens (p>0.05). The INL had a significant effect on average daily feed intake (p<0.05) of broiler chickens compared with CL. Photoperiod and light intensity had an interactive effect on melatonin (MT) concentration (p<0.05). At CL, reducing light intensity increased MT concentration; INL birds had higher MT but MT concentration was not affected by light intensity. There was an interactive effect on glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and catalase (CAT) in serum and total antioxidant capability (T-AOC) in liver between photoperiod and light intensity. With the decrease of light intensity, the activities of GPx and CAT in serum and T-AOC in liver increased in CL group (p<0.05). Broiler chickens reared under INL had better antioxidant status and 10 lx treatments had higher activities of CAT in serum than 30 lx (p<0.05). Different photoperiods and light intensities had no effect on malondialdehyde. There was an interaction between photoperiod and light intensity on serum creatine kinase (CK) concentration (p<0.05). At CL, the elevated light intensity resulted in an increase in CK content; INL birds had lower CK concentration especially in low light intensity group. Besides, INL and low light intensity significantly reduced the concentration of serum corticosterone and heat shock protein 70 (p<0.05). Serum immunoglobulin M contents were increased in broiler chickens reared under the INL compared with CL group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Results above suggest that the night light regimen of INL and 10 lx could be beneficial to the broiler chickens from 1 to 21 days of age due to the better health status and electricity savings.

Effects of different selenium sources and levels on antioxidant status in broiler breeders

        K.X. Li,J.S. Wang,D. Yuan,R.X. Zhao,Y.X. Wang,X. A. Zhan 아세아·태평양축산학회 2018 Animal Bioscience Vol.31 No.12

Objective: This study was conducted with the objectives to examine the impacts of inorganic selenium (Se) and different types and levels of organic selenium on the serum and tissues Se status and antioxidant capacity in broiler breeders. Methods: Five hundred and forty 48-wk-old Lingnan Yellow broiler breeders were randomly assigned to 6 dietary treatments, provided same basal diet (0.04 mg/kg of Se) with 0.15 mg/kg, or 0.30 mg/kg of Se from sodium selenite (SS) or from selenium-enriched yeast (SY) or from selenomethionine (SM). The broiler breeders were slaughtered after an 8-wk experiment. Results: The results showed that SM was better than SY and SS, 0.30 mg/kg level was better than 0.15 mg/kg level in Se deposition (p<0.05) in serum, liver, kidney, pancreas and muscle; in antioxidant status, organic selenium had better effects than SS in broiler breeders (p<0.05), but SM and SY had a similar result, and 0.15 mg/kg level was better than 0.30 mg/kg (p<0.05). Conclusion: The results demonstrated the evident advantage of supplementation of broiler breeders with 0.15 mg/kg SM, which improved tissue Se concentrations and antioxidant status, and can be considered as the best selenium source.
