Accuracy of Ultrasonography in Early Pregnancy Diagnosis in Doe

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the accuracy of ultrasonography in early pregnancy diagnosis in goats. Ultrasonographic scanning with real time B-mode ultrasound machine having 5 MHz linear array transducer was performed on gravid uterus (n=24) obtained from slaughterhouse (Group I). Crown rump length (CRL) measured by ultrasound was found significantly different (p<0.05) with actual CRL measured after dissection in early pregnancy. However, age predicted by ultrasound through the measurement of CRL was found highly correlated (r=0.92) with age measured after dissection through CRL and the weight of fetus. Ages predicted by ultrasound through the measurement of trunk diameter (TD) and uterine diameter (UD) and ages measured after dissection were found highly and equally correlated (r=0.98) and did not differ significantly. Data from six does synchronized (Group II) with PGF2$\alpha$ (Estrumate) at 11 days apart were collected through ultrasound from 17 to 42 days post breding. The correlation between CRL and gestational age was high (r=0.97) in day 30 to 42 post breeding. A high coefficient of correlation (r=0.98) was also observed between predicated age by ultrasound and actual age calculated after kidding. The correlation between CRL and gestational age by the formula Y=(a+bX) i.e. Y=24.42+0.39 X where Y=gestational age and X=CRL, was recorded very high (r=0.99). Accuracy of ultrasonography was lowest on day 17 to 19 (66%) and reached 100% on day 34. Data from 30 does (group III) randomly subjected to only one time ultrasounds scanning to assess the accuracy of pregnancy diagnosis were also obtained. Ages predicted by TD and UD measurements were observed to be non-significantly different with actual age obtained after kidding and correlation between ages predicted by TD and UD measurement with actual age after kidding was found equally and highly correlated (r=0.98). The operator's accuracy in the whole experiment including all three groups was found to be 92%. The sensitivity was 93% and specificity was 86%. From the present study, it was observed that CRL was the most reliable parameter to find out gestational age in early pregnancy and the new formula derived was found very accurate to find out gestational age. TD and UD were also found to be equally reliable parameter to find out gestational age in mid and late stage of pregnancy through ultrasonography. It was concluded that ultrasonography by real time B mode with 5 MHz transrectal transducer was found to be reliable, safe and accurate and practicable means in diagnosing early pregnancy diagnosis as early as 25 days post breeding.

Present work investigates the crossover from paramagnetism to superparamagnetism as a function of crystallite size in zinc ferrite nanoparticles using near edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy. Synthesized paramagnetic and superparamagnetic nanoparticles exhibit presence of Fe<SUP>2+</SUP> and Fe<SUP>3+</SUP> ions with dominant concentration of Fe<SUP>3+</SUP> ions. Fe L- and O K-edges spectra of paramagnetic nanoparticles consist of more intense spectral features compared to that of superparamagnetic nanoparticles. This reflects enhanced t<SUB>2g</SUB> and e<SUB>g</SUB> symmetry states of Fe-O hybridized states in paramagnetic nanoparticles induced by increased degree of crystallization.

A hitherto unknown diphenylbutadiene analog viz. 1-(p-N,N-dimethylaminophenyl)-4-phenyl-2-methyl-1E,3E-butadiene (10) has been prepared and its absorption, excitation, and fluorescent emission properties in different media including various organic solvents and aqueous bovine serum albumin (BSA) have been studied. For comparision, these properties have also been investigated for the parent diphenylbutadiene (2). Diene 10 exhibits solvent polarity/polarizability-sensitive fluorescence properties ($\lambda$$_{max}$, $\Phi$$_f$, $\tau$$_f$, K$_f$, f). It also binds to the hydrophobic domains of aqueous bovine serum albumin (BSA) with a binding constant of 3.89 x 10$^4$ M$^{-1}$. The relative fluorescence quantum yield of 10 increases, while, the fluorescence lifetime decreases with increasing concentration of-BSA. The results highlight the polar character of the singlet excited state of diphenylpolyenes and the utility of 10 as fluorescence probe for studying microenvironments of organized assemblies and biological supramolecular structures.

In this study, we have synthesized Dy<SUP>3+</SUP> activated Sr<SUB>5</SUB>(PO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB>F (S-FAP) phosphors by sol-gel synthesis method. The synthesized phosphors were characterized by X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), scanning electron microscopic (SEM), photoluminescence (PL) and thermoluminescence (TL) for structural, morphological and luminescent properties. Dy<SUP>3+</SUP> activated Sr<SUB>5</SUB>(PO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB>F phosphor shows its characteristic PL emission at 481 nm and 574 nm due to <SUP>4</SUP>F<SUB>9/2</SUB> → <SUP>6</SUP>H<SUB>15/2</SUB> and <SUP>4</SUP>F<SUB>9/2</SUB> → <SUP>6</SUP>H<SUB>13/2</SUB> transitions, respectively. TL characteristics of Dy<SUP>3+</SUP> doped Sr<SUB>5</SUB>(PO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB>F phosphors were taken after irradiation by <SUP>60</SUP>Co gamma exposure. Two separate TL peaks at 126 <SUP>o</SUP>C and 279 <SUP>o</SUP>C were observed in case of Dy<SUP>3+</SUP> doped phosphor. Sr<SUB>5</SUB>(PO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB>F:Dy<SUP>3+</SUP> phosphor was irradiated within a wide range of exposure of 50 Gy to 7 kGy doses. Linearity was found up to 2 kGy and thereafter TL response saturates. Fading study was also carried out over the duration of six weeks for Sr<SUB>5</SUB>(PO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB>F phosphor. Trapping parameters were calculated using Chen's peak shape method, initial rise method and various heating rate method. Glow curve is deconvoluted using computerized glow curve deconvolution program. TL sensitivity of Sr<SUB>5</SUB>(PO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB>F:Dy<SUP>3+</SUP> phosphor is found to be less by a factor of 2.08 than commercially used CaSO<SUB>4</SUB>:Dy phosphor. In order to identify the defect centers formed upon γ-ray irradiation in Sr<SUB>5</SUB>(PO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB>F:Dy<SUP>3+</SUP> phosphor, EPR measurements were carried out on un-irradiated and irradiated phosphors.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Combustion derived In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>:Er<SUP>3+</SUP>, co-doped with Yb<SUP>3+</SUP>phosphor powders have been prepared. Powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy methods are used to characterize the prepared phosphor powders. The intensity parameters (<I>Ω<SUB>λ</SUB> </I>, <I>λ</I>=2, 4 and 6), radiative transition probabilities (<I>A<SUB>R</SUB> </I>), radiative lifetime (<I>τ<SUB>R</SUB> </I>) and branching ratios (<I>β</I>) of certain emission transition of Er<SUP>3+</SUP>ions for In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>:Er<SUP>3+</SUP>and In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>:Er<SUP>3+</SUP>/Yb<SUP>3+</SUP>phosphors have been estimated in the framework of the model given by Judd–Ofelt. Upon excitation at 978nm, upconversion luminescence properties of Er<SUP>3+</SUP>and Er<SUP>3+</SUP>/Yb<SUP>3+</SUP>doped In<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> phosphors are investigated. The results obtained from optical study confirm the existence of an effective Yb<SUP>3+</SUP>to Er<SUP>3+</SUP>energy transfer process and it also predict possible mechanisms to populate the <SUP>4</SUP>S<SUB>3/2</SUB> and <SUP>4</SUP>F<SUB>9/2</SUB> levels. The possible upconversion mechanisms are discussed for Er<SUP>3+</SUP>and Yb<SUP>3+</SUP>ions with energy level diagram.</P>

This paper discusses the experimental results obtained from the various components developed for a 1.7 MW neutral beam injector (NBI). Several technologies related to fabrication of back plate, extractor grids, high-current filament feedthru’s, heat-transfer elements, ceramic insulators, cryopumps, rectangular vessels and power supplies have been developed in collaboration with the Indian industry. Control experiments on the prototype plasma box are described.

The LDH isozymes are key catalysts in the glycolytic pathway of energy metabolism. It is well known that the distribution of the LDH isozymes vary in accordance with the metabolic requirements of different tissues. The substrates required for energy production change noticeably at successive stages of testes development suggesting a significant flexibility in the expression of glycolytic enzymes. Therefore, expression of LHDA and LDHB mRNAs was examined in adult and prepubertal quail testis. The mRNA of both LDHA and LDHB were expressed and no significant difference was observed in prepubertal testes. The mRNA levels of LDHB significantly increased during testicular development. In the adult testis, LDHA mRNA was not expressed. Expression studies revealed the presence of different LDH isozymes during testicular development. In contrast, electrophoresis of both testicular samples revealed only single band at a position indicative of an extreme type of LDH isozyme in quail testes. Furthermore, nucleotide and amino acid sequence analysis revealed significant similarity to chicken, duck and rock pigeon. These sequence results confirmed the similarity of LDHA and LDHB subunit protein in different avian species.
