      • Global Energy Market and China's Energy Strategy

        In the past 30 years or so, the energy prices in the global market have been up and down just like a Coaster, and it has climbed to a historical high point. The energy consumption in the whole world has also doubled. Although the developed countries represent most part of the global consumption, the world has seen that the emerging economies consume more and more energies. In the near future, we may rest assured that there will be enough energy reserve for consumption. But for the coming decades, with the oil prices increasing, the prices of coal, natural gas and other kinds of energies will also climb. No doubt, governments should reconsider their energy strategies. This paper is to put forward some policy recommendations to China's energy strategy on the basis of analysis of the main characteristics of the strategies by the US, Japan and the EU.

        Fabrication and Characteristics of TiO2 Nanotubes on Hemispherical Diamond Films Using ZnO Nanorods as Template

        Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods (NRs) have been synthesized as a template to fabricate TiO2 nanotubes (TiNTs) on hemispherical diamond film by liquid-phase deposition (LPD) method. The process concerning the formation of TiNTs was analyzed. Based on the results of XRD and Raman spectroscopy, it is demonstrated that TiNTs was successfully obtained after removing ZnO NRs by chemical etching at room temperature. The TiNTs on hemispherical diamond film show higher performance photocatalysis, examined by the degradation of the reactive yellow 15(RY15) solution. The corresponding mechanism is discussed.

        Production and immunogenicity of chimeric virus-like particles containing the spike glycoprotein of infectious bronchitis virus

        Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) poses a severe threat to thepoultry industry and causes heavy economic losses worldwide. Vaccination is the most effective method of preventing infectionand controlling the spread of IBV, but currently availableinactivated and attenuated virus vaccines have somedisadvantages. We developed a chimeric virus-like particle(VLP)-based candidate vaccine for IBV protection. The chimericVLP was composed of matrix 1 protein from avian influenzaH5N1 virus and a fusion protein neuraminidase (NA)/spike 1 (S1)that was generated by fusing IBV S1 protein to the cytoplasmicand transmembrane domains of NA protein of avian influenzaH5N1 virus. The chimeric VLPs elicited significantly higherS1-specific antibody responses in intramuscularly immunizedmice and chickens than inactivated IBV viruses. Furthermore,the chimeric VLPs induced significantly higher neutralizationantibody levels than inactivated H120 virus in SPF chickens. Finally, the chimeric VLPs induced significantly higher IL-4production in mice. These results demonstrate that chimericVLPs have the potential for use in vaccines against IBV infection.

        Three-Dimensional Simulation Study of the Improved On/Off Current Ratio in Silicon Nanowire Field-Effect Transistors

        In this paper, we report an approach based on three-dimensional numerical simulations for the investigation of the dependence of the on/off current ratio in silicon nanowire (SiNW) field-effect transistors (FETs) on the channel width. In order to investigate the transport behavior in devices with different channel geometries, we have performed detailed two-dimensional and three-dimensional simulations of SiNWFETs and control FETs with a fixed channel length L and thickness t but varying the channel width W from 5 nm and 5 μm. By evaluating the charge distributions and the current flowlines of both the two- and three-dimensional structures, we have shown that the increase in the `on state' conduction current in the SiNW channel is a dominant factor, which consequently results in more than a two order of magnitude improvement in the on/off current ratio.         GPU-ACCELERATED SPECKLE MASKING RECONSTRUCTION ALGORITHM FOR HIGH-RESOLUTION SOLAR IMAGES

        The near real-time speckle masking reconstruction technique has been developed to accelerate the processing of solar images to achieve high resolutions for ground-based solar telescopes. However, the reconstruction of solar subimages in such a speckle reconstruction is very time-consuming. We design and implement a new parallel speckle masking reconstruction algorithm based on the Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) on General Purpose Graphics Processing Units (GPGPU). Tests are performed to validate the correctness of our program on NVIDIA GPGPU. Details of several parallel reconstruction steps are presented, and the parallel implementation between various modules shows a significant speed increase compared to the previous serial implementations. In addition, we present a comparison of runtimes across serial programs, the OpenMP-based method, and the new parallel method. The new parallel method shows a clear advantage for large scale data processing, and a speedup of around 9 to 10 is achieved in reconstructing one solar subimage of 256$\times$256 pixels. The speedup performance of the new parallel method exceeds that of OpenMP-based method overall. We conclude that the new parallel method would be of value, and contribute to real-time reconstruction of an entire solar image.

        Encoding Selection for a Class of Fitness Functions based on Locus Interdependency

        The feasible solutions are usually represented with a binary encoding when a genetic algorithm is applied to a continuous optimization problem. However, it has been remarked that a binary encoding was not always the best choice, and it was suggested to use a base-m encoding for a class of fitness functions linearly combined of sine functions whose frequencies were exponential to a positive integer m. In this paper, this suggestion is explained based on locus interdependency. It is shown that, for these fitness functions, the Euclidean distances from a considerable part of the highly fit strings to the objective strings are negative powers of m. Thus, the Hamming distances from the highly fit strings to the objective strings when the feasible solutions of these fitness functions are represented with a basem encoding are much smaller than those when the fitness functions are expressed with an encoding of another cardinality. And as a result, locus interdependency of the former is much lower than that of the latter, which indicates that the fitness functions are likely to be much easier when expressed with the former encoding. The suggestion is then tested on a number of fitness functions randomly generated, in which encodings with different bases are compared according to locus interdependency and optimization performance. The results of the test substantiate the suggestion.
