The PHENIX Experiment is the largest of the four experiments that have taken data at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. PHENIX, the Pioneering High Energy Nuclear Interaction eXperiment, is designed specifically to measure direct probes of the collisions such as electrons, muons, and photons. The primary goal of PHENIX is to discover and study a new state of matter called the Quark-Gluon Plasma. Among many particles, muons coming from W-boson decay gives us key information to analyze the spin of proton. Resistive plate chambers are proposed as a suitable solution as a muon trigger because of their fast response and good time resolution, flexibility in signal readout, robustness and the relatively low cost of production. The RPC detectors for upgrade were assembled and their performances were evaluated. The procedure to make the detectors better was optimized and described in detail in this thesis. The code based on ROOT was written and by using this the performance of the detectors made was evaluated, and all of the modules for north muon arm met the criteria and installation at PHENIX completed in November 2009. As RPC detectors that we made showed fast response, capacity of covering wide area with a resonable price and good spatial resolution, this will give the opportunity for applications, such as diagnosis and customs inspection system.

At present, many studies on the air-conditioning systems are more focused on the individual thermal comfort than the thermal efficiency due to increase of the concern of health. Numerical analyses were carried out for investigating the flow characteristics in the room, including the impeller, the rearguider, the stabilizer and the blade of the diffuser region in the RAC. Especially, two different types of blade in the diffuser region, single blade and double blades, were numerically estimated. Using a commercial code, FLUENT, two-dimensional steady air thermal flow fields are calculated with different rotating speeds of impeller. The rotational frequency of impeller is located in the range from 900 rpm to 1200 rpm. Turbulence closure is achieved using a standard k-ε model. A moving reference frame approach is adopted to simulate the flow field generated by impeller in the RAC. Results are graphically depicted with various geometrical configurations and operating conditions.

기존 항공물류 산업의 시스템들은 많은 이질적인 시스템들과 비효율적이고 비표준화된 데이터로 이루어져 있다. 이러한 데이터의 통합문제를 해결하기 위한 해결방안이 많이 제시되고 있으며, XML 웹서비스 또한 해결책으로 제시되었다. 본 논문에서는 XML 웹서비스를 항공물류 산업에 적용시켜 항공물류 시스템을 통합하는 방법을 제시하고 현업에서 사용 가능한 XML 웹서비스 기반의 항공물류 공급망 시스템을 개발하였다.

Purpose: The optimal treatment for synchronous liver metastasis (LM) from colorectal cancer (CRC) depends on various factors. The present study was intended to investigate the oncologic outcome according to the time of resection of metastatic lesions. Methods: Data from patients who underwent treatment with curative intent for primary CRC and synchronous LM between 2004 and 2009 from 9 university hospitals in Korea were collected retrospectively. One hundred forty-three patients underwent simultaneous resection for primary CRC and synchronous LM (simultaneous surgery group), and 65 patients were treated by 2-stage operation (staged surgery group). Results: The mean follow-up length was 41.2 ± 24.6 months. In the extent of resection for hepatic metastasis, major hepatectomy was more frequently performed in staged surgery group (33.8% vs. 8.4%, P < 0.001). The rate of severe complications of Clavien-Dindo classification grade III or more was not significantly different between the 2 groups. The 3-year overall survival (OS) rate was 85.0% in staged surgery group and 69.4% in simultaneous surgery group (P = 0.013), and the 3-year recurrence-free survival (RFS) rate was 46.4% in staged surgery group and 30.2% in simultaneous surgery group (P = 0.143). In subgroup analysis based on the location of primary CRC, the benefit of staged surgery for OS and RFS was clearly shown in rectal cancer (P = 0.021 and P = 0.015). Conclusion: Based on our results, staged surgery with or without neoadjuvant chemotherapy should be considered for resectable synchronous LM from CRC, especially in rectal cancer, as a safe and fairly promising option

This paper describes the design of a force applying system for a smart phone curved glass molding system and its characteristic test. The force applying system is composed of a motor and gear, a rectilinear movement structure, a force sensor, an LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) sensor, an up and down moving block, and so on. The system precisely controls the applying force and time to the plane glass because the glass can be easily destroyed under applied force, and can be bent imperfectly. As a result of the characteristic test, the curved glass can be manufactured using this system, and the holding time under 0N force, the applying force to the plane glass, the time for applying from 0N to maximum force, and the holding time under maximum force at the manufacture feasible temperature 620℃ were found.
