In order to datemine that glycine uptake in the cell membrane of Chlorella vulgaris is depend on the specificity of substrate and energy required, it has been investigated on the reaction velocity of glycine and certain carrier. Some effects on the transmural fluxes of glycine across the cell membrane were also detemined. 1. The time course of glycine uptake was a linear function of time to early 10 min, and increased in the steady state slowly. 2. Glycine influx had shown apparent affinity in the range of 0.001 mM to 10 mM solution of glycine and followed Michaelis-Menten Kinetics(Km-0.16 mM, Vmax=0.31 nM2.0x10^7 cells min). 3. Glycine influx with 1 mA IAA was reduced about 50 percentage, suggesting that glycine uptake process is energy-dependent. 4. Glycine uptake was inhibited by glutamic acid, alanine, phenylalanine, proline, and methionine with the exception of histidine. It was suggested that the inhibition was competeted with some amino acids described above.
LED Backlight Driving Circuits and Dimming Method

In this paper, light-emitting-diode (LED) backlight driving circuits and dimming method for medium-sized and large liquid crystal displays (LCDs) are proposed. The double loop control method, the intelligent-phase-shifted PWM dimming method, the fast-switching current regulator, and the current matching techniques are proposed to improve not only the current regulation characteristics and the power efficiency but also the current matching characteristics and the transient response of the LED current. The brightness of the backlight using the proposed local dimming method was determined from the histogram of the local block to reduce the power consumption of the backlight without image distortion. The measured maximum power efficiency of the LED backlight driving circuit for medium-sized LCDs was 90%, and the simulation results showed an 88% maximum power efficiency of the LED backlight driving circuit for large LCDs. The maximum backlight power-saving ratio of the proposed dimming method was 41.7% in the simulation with a high-contrast image. The experiment and simulation results showed that the performance of LEDs as LCD backlight units (BLUs) improved with the proposed circuits and method.
LTPS TFT Based High Speed and Low Power CMOS Level Shifter

In this paper, we proposed a CMOS level shifter with high speed and low power operation using low temperature poly-crystalline silicon (LTPS) thin film transistors (TFTs). The previously reported cross-coupled level shifter using LTPS TFTs suffers from slow transition time and high power consumption. To resolve these problems, we proposed the level shifter using bootstrapping method for fast output response. Using the proposed level shifter, the transition time is decreased and power consumption is decreased compared to cross-coupled level shifter. In the simulated results, the power consumption of proposed CMOS level shifter is 2.91% of cross-coupled latch level shifter, only 190㎼ at 13㎒ operation. And it can operate at high frequency up to 15㎒ with 280㎼ power consumption.
Capacitive Touch Systems With Styli for Touch Sensors: A Review

<P>This paper presents the latest progress in development and applications of the capacitive touch systems (CTSs) with styli. The CTSs, which include the touch sensor, analog front-end (AFE) integrated circuit (IC), and micro-controller unit, are reviewed along with the passive and active styli. The architecture of the CTS is explained first, followed by an exploration of the touch sensors: (1) types of touch sensors, such as in-cell, on-cell, and add-on types according to the size and material, (2) AFE IC with the driving and sensing methods, and (3) passive and active styli for the CTS. Finally, the future perspectives of the CTS are given from the viewpoint of the technical developments.</P>

Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), which was previously called the Churg-Strauss syndrome, is an ANCA associated vasculitis, accompanied by asthma, hypereosinophilia, nonfi xed pulmonary infi ltrates, and sinusitis. Peripheral neuropathy is common in patients with EGPA. However, a few cases of EGPA with CNS involvement have been reported. A 47-year-old female was referred for right side weakness and posterior neck pain. She was diagnosed as EGPA with subarachnoid hemorrhage and mononeuritis multiplex. She was effectively treated with a high dose glucocorticoid, cyclophosphamide and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG). EGPA with CNS involvement is uncommon and it causes signifi cant morbidity and mortality. Therefore more rapid and accurate diagnostic evaluation may be required. EGPA should be considered while patients have neurological symptoms and hypereosinophilia.
