Occurrence of three troublesome lepidopterous pests, Ostrinia furnacalis, Helicoverpa armigera and Pseudaletia separata in corn cultivation of the reclaimed land were recorded using sex pheromone traps from 2012 to 2014. In case of O. furnacalis adult, two generations were observed in a year and its occurrence pattern was very regular. The 1st generation showed the highest occurrence in late May-early June and the 2nd generation was in late July-early August. On the other hand, H. armigera occurred at least three times a year but its occurrence was somewhat irregular. H. armigera adult showed the highest occurrence in mid May, late June, early August, respectively in 2012 but their occurrence patterns of the 2nd and 3rd generations were varied in 2013 and 2014. In case of P. separata, a few number of adult were captured during the survey period, indicating few number of P. separata migrated from China. Based on the control effect of O. furnacalis by Etofenprox and Carbofuranin 2012, June 26 treatment showed the highest control rate with 96.8% for Etofenprox, 85.8% for Carbofuran, respectively. Late treatment at June 19 and June 26 significantly decreased the control rate of O. furnacalis and June 26 treatment showed the lowest control rate of 1.9% for Etofenprox. 18.1% for Carbofuran, respectively.

Thionins are a family of low molecular weight cysteine-rich antimicrobial peptides. We isolated a cDNA encoding thionin gene from a flower bud cDNA library of Chinese cabbage (CFT). The gene contains 611 by nucleotides with 60 bp, and 150 by untranslated regions at its N- and C-terminal, respectively. The deduced amino acid sequence encoded 133 amino acids containing precursor polypeptide. The protein reveals that the precursor has a tripartite structure: a putative signal sequence at the N-terminus, followed by a mature thionin peptide, and a C-terminal acidic domain, which facilitates transport of the mature thionin through membrane. Genomic Southern blot analysis suggests that the CFT gene may be present as a single or two copy gene in the Chinese cabbage genome. Northern blot analysis shows that the gene is specifically expressed in flowers, but not in leaves, stems, or roots. When we analyzed the antifungal activity of the recombinant CFT protein, which was expressed in E. coli using the truncated cDNA region corresponding to the mature protein part, it was not active on fungal growth inhibition.

In this paper, we propose a new modulation scheme for high-data rate wireless body area network inbody communication systems. Simulation results are presented in terms of performance, modulation options, spectrum regrowth by nonlinearity and roll-off values of a pulse shaping filter. In addition, the planning for link budget explains that the proposed modulation approach is appropriate for high-data rate applications in the body channel environment.

Background and Objectives: Neck metastasis associated with occult papillary thyroid carcinomas rarely present as a lateral neck mass. This study investigates the incidence, presentation, evaluation, pathologic features, and process for definite treatment of occult papillary thyroid carcinoma presenting with a lateral neck mass. Materials and Methods: Fifty-nine patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma combined with neck metastasis were enrolled in this study. All patients underwent total thyroidectomy with lateral compartment neck dissection. The occult group consisted of 11 patients. The non-occult group comprised 48 patients. Results: Mean age in occult group was younger than non-occult group and male was dominant in occult group. We could find the abnormality of thyroid gland only in 3 of 11 (27.3%) by CT and 3 of 3 (100%) by ultrasonograpy. Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) was found to be helpful in 6 of 10 (60%). All of four false negative results consisted of cystic lesions. Mean primary tumor size was significantly smaller in occult than in non-occult group. No significant difference was observed in the other variables. Conclusion: Sole presentation as a lateral neck mass, especially in young & male should be considered in the differential diagnosis of occult papillary thyroid carcinoma. FNAB may be a initial diagnostic tool of choice. However, in case of cystic lesion, there are possibility of misleading interpretation of cytology. Although ultrasonography can be a good modality to evaluate occult papillary thyroid carcinoma, various radiologic study could not find primary thyroid focus.
