N-nitrosamines are a class of carcinogenic chemicals that can pose significant hazards to the human life. Ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation is considered as one of the effective methods to reduce N-nitrosamines in the aqueous phase. This study aimed to investigate the pH influence on UV photodegradation of N-nitrosamines (i.e., N-nitrosodibutylamine (NDBA) and N-nitrosopyrrolidine (NPYR)) closely related to water treatment. Photodegradation rate constants of NDBA and NPYR remained between 3.26×10-2 L/W-min to 5.08×10-3 L/W-min and 1.14×10-2 L/W-min to 2.80×10-3 L/W-min at pH2-10, respectively. This study also focused on the formation of oxidized products (i.e., primarily NO2- and NO3-). Under slightly acidic and eutral conditions, NO2- formation was more prevalent than NO3- formation, while under strong acidic conditions, NO3- was more prevalent. There was no significant change in total organic carbon (TOC) and total nitrogen (TN), suggesting negligible loss of N-nitrosamines and degradation products from the system. NDBA was easily photodegraded than NPYR. This study also demonstrated that a lower pH is a favorable condition for photolytic degradation of N-nitrosamines in water.
악성 림프종 환자에서 BEAM 고용량화학요법과 자가조혈모세포이식

N/A Background : The long-term survival in patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) after conventional chemotherapy is about 35% and the rest of the patients tend to have relapse. So, in relapsed or refractory NHL, the outcome of patients undergoing high-dose chemotherapy and autologous peripheral stem cell transplantation (APBSCT) was evaluated, and the main prognostic factors were determined. Methods : 17 patients with relapsed or resistant NHL (5 complete response group, 7 partial response group, 4 primary refractory group, 1 resistant relapse) underwent BEAM (carmustine, etoposide, cytarabine, melphalan) chemotherapy and APBSCT between July 1997 and February 1999. Results : The median follow-up duration was 17 months (range: 4-47). The response rate was 58.3% (complete response 33.3%, partial response 25.0%) in 12 patients in whom complete response group was not included. The 2-year, 3-year overall response rate were 41.2%, 27.5%, respectively. And 2-year progression free survival was 35.3%. The disease status before high-dose chemotherapy was the only significant prognostic factor in determining overall survival (univariate p=.024, multivariate p=.059) and progression free survival (univariate p=.013, multivariate p=.026). Patients with complete response to salvage regimen had better overall survival (p=.021) and progression free survival (p=.008) than patients with refractory response. WBC (≥ 1,000/uL) was recovered at the median 11 days (range; 8-24), and platelet (≥ 50,000/uL) was recovered at the median 18 days (range; 9-44). There was no treatment-related death and no grade 3 and 4 toxicity. Neutropenic infection was in 4 patients (1 Herpes zoster, 1 typhlitis, 1 perianal infection, 1 otitis externa). Conclusion : The pre-transplant disease status was the main prognostic factor. Patients with complete response to salvage regimen had the significant benefit in survival from high-dose chemotherapy and APBSCT, but patients with refractory or resistant relapsed NHL did not have any significant benefit.(Korean J Med 61:255-263, 2001)
PCR을 이용한 경북 동부지역 소의 러시아범안열원충 감염률 조사

This study was performed to determine the prevalence of Theileria sergenti (T. sergenti) in cattle reared in eastern areas of Gyeongbuk province by PCR. Among 443 samples collected from 42 cattle farms, 96 (21.7%) samples from 13 (31.0%) farms were positive for T. sergenti. By regions, 87 (26.6%) out of 327 cattle in Gyeongju, 8 (9.5%) out of 84 cattle in Pohang, and 1 (3.1%) out of 32 cattle in Ulleung were positive for T. sergenti. T. sergenti infection in dairy cattle (27.9%) was significantly higher than that in Korean cattle (9.4%, P<0.0001). Accordingly, Korean cattle were more resistant to T. sergenti infection. Prevalence of T. sergenti in cattle was increased with age (P <0.0001). The infection rate in cows (23.3%) was significantly higher than that in bulls (5.0%, P <0.01). Seasonally, prevalence of T. sergenti in cattle was highest in autumn (32.7%, P<0.01). Prevalence of T. sergenti in grazing cattle (66.7%) was significantly higher than that in non-grazing cattle (15.8%, P<0.0001). Since prevalence of T. sergenti infection is high in cattle reared in eastern areas of Gyeongbuk province, survey on other hemoparasites and appropriate control programs need to be established in this region.
수축저감제 혼입률 변화에 따른 콘크리트의 공학적 특성에 관한 연구

In this paper, tests are carried out using concrete incorporating shrinkage reducing agent(SR) in order to investigate the engineering properties of concrete. The contents of SR and W/C are varied. According to test results, as for fresh concrete, as SR content increases, slump and air content shows decline tendency, and setting time is accelerated with increase of SR content and decrease of W/C. As for compressive strength, as SR contents increases compressive strength shows to be decreased. As for the effect of SR on drying shrinkage, it shows to be reduced with increase of SR content. This is due to the reduced surface tensile strength of water and tensile strength of capillary pore in concrete.

In this study, the objective of this study was to evaluate the adhesive characteristics of existing self-adhesive rubber asphalt sheet, butyl sheet and acrylate sheet in a low temperature environment through Tack Rolling Ball Test to obtain basic data on acrylate . As a result of this experiment, in the case of the self-molding rubber asphalt sheet and the butyl rubber sheet, the compound of the sheet was frozen in the low temperature environment and the iron bead was separated. On the other hand, the acrylate sheet did not freeze the acrylate even at 0 ° C, It is confirmed that the measured value is shown by Ball Test.
Brown Guinea Pig와 Hairless Mouse를 이용한 광노화 모델에서 LGNC-5의 경구반복투여에 의한 피부주름발생 및 색소침착억제 효과

비타민과 불포화지방산, 그리고 폴리페놀의 복합처방인 LGNC-5 (LG생활건강 기술연구원 개발)가 건강기능식품의 개별인증을 받을 수 있는지의 여부를 확인하기 위해 hairless mice와 brown guinea pig 모델을 이용해 자외선에 의한 주름생성 및 색소침착 억제력 평가를 실시하여 다음과 같은 결괴를 얻었다. 1. Hairless mice를 대상으로 실시한 주름억제실험에서 육안관찰과 피부주형의 영상분석결과, LGNC-5군은 농도의존적인 주름발생 억제효과를 보였으며, 고용량군(x60)인 LGNC-5H군의 경우 10주후 정상군과 유사한 수준의 양호한 피부 상태를 보였다. Hematoxylin & Eosin stain 에서도 LGNC-5H군에서는 UV 대조군에 비해 표피 두께와 과각화가 현저하게 줄어드는 것으로 조사되어 우수한 주름발생억제 효과를 확인하였다. 2. Brown guinea pig을 대상으로 실시한 색소침착억제력 실험에서 육안관찰과 색차계를 이용한 측정결과, LGNC-5H군에서는 설험개시 7일 후부터 UV 대조군에 비해 색소침착이 억제되기 시작해, 설험 종료시까지 색소침착억제효과를 보였다(p<0.05). Fontana-masson silver stain 에서도 LGNC-5H군에서는 UV 대조군에 비해 melanin 침챡량이 현저하게 감소된 것으로 조사되어 LGNC-5H의 색소침착억제효과를 확인하였다. 3. 10주간의 주름억제실험과 4주간의 색소침착 억제실험에 사용한 모든 설험동물에서 사망 혹은 시험물질 투여로 인한 특이한 임상증상이 관찰되지 않았다. 시험물질 투여 기간 중 사료와 음수 소비량 역시 유의한 변화를 관찰할 수 없었으며, 대조군과 실험군 모두 정상적인 체중 증가를 나타내었다. 이상의 실험결과를 종합하면 LGNC-5은 안전하고 경구반복투여 시 UV조사로 인해 hairless mice에서 발생되는 주름과 brown guinea pig에서 생성되는 색소침착을 효과적으로 억제시키는 처방인 것으로 평가되었다. Chronic exposure of UV radiation in sunlight results in a number of biological responses, including erythema, sunburn cell formation, immune suppression, photoaging, and skin cancer. In this study, we investigated the effects of LGNC-5 (LG Nutricosmetics-5, the mixture of vitamins, unsaturated fatty acid and polyphenol) on UV-induced skin damage. Oral administration of LGNC-5 for 10 weeks resulted in inhibition of UVB-induced wrinkle formation in SKH-1 hairless mice skin compared to UV control group as a dose dependent manner. LGNC-5 treatment also inhibited UV radiation-induced skin pigmentation in brown guinea pigs examined by colorimeter and Fontana-masson silver staining. These results mean that LGNC-5 as a dietary supplement could be useful to attenuate solar UVB-induced melanogenesis and premature skin aging.

A number of experimental evidences suggest that the rnun ventrolateral medulla(RVLM) is the final common pathway in the regulation of arterial blood pressure. A Voup of neurons in the RVLM, called the cardiovascular neurons (UN), show spontaneous activity temporally synchronized with the periodic cardiac cycle. These neurons affect the sympathetic nerve discharge(SND), thus are believed to be responsible for blood pressure control. The present experiment identified 98 UVNs in 42 cats based on the temporal relationships between each neuron's activity with both the cardiac cycle and SWD. In 20 UWL changes of spontaneous firing rate(FR) during the somatosympathetic reflex(SSR) were studied Five different firing patterns were observed during the pressor and depressor responses of SSR, implying that they form an interconnected neuronal circuit interacting with one another to generate efferent signals for blood pressure regulation. In the following companion paper, the firing patterns of CVN are analyzed to develop a minimal neuronal circuit model explaining the present experimental outcome.

우리나라 청소년은 최근 신체활동의 부족으로 심폐지구력의 감소, 비만의 급증 등 건강체력요인이 급격히 악화되고 있으며 이는 청소년들의 건강을 심각하게 위협하고 있다. 이러한 인식에 따라 문화체육관광부가 2013년도 청소년기국민체력인증 기준을 개발하였고 2015 「국민체력100 사업」에 청소년 프로그램을 추가시킴에 따라 본 연구는 청소년의 비만을 예방하기 위한 심폐지구력 기준치(cut off point)를 설정하였다. 2013년 시행된 국민체력 100사업의 청소년기 체력기준 연구참여자 중학생 2,432명을 대상으로 20m 왕복오래달리기검사 측정 결과에 대하여 정상집단과 비만집단간의 차이분석 및 ROC 분석을 실시하였다. 이 결과에 따라 한국 중학생의 비만 예방을 위해 요구되는 성별, 연령별 최소 유산소체력 기준을 제시하였으며 체지방률, 피부두겹합, 그리고 허리둘레라는 각 비만 준거에 따라 설정된 유산소체력 기준에 대하여 타당도 및 효용성을 분석하여 제시하였다. The purpose of this study is to develop the absolute aerobic capacity evaluation standards for Korean youth established by empirical evidence in 2013 to address the minimum aerobic fitness level required to prevent obesity and to verify the validity and effectiveness. Reduction of cardiorespiratory endurance and increasing obesity in Korean youth due to the lack of recent physical activity have seriously threatened the health of the young. Accordingly, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has developed the 2013 national youth fitness certification standard and 2015 “National Fitness Project 100”. In this study is to set the cardiorespiratory endurance thresholds (cut off point) for the prevention of obesity in adolescents. Participants were 2,432 middle school students in 2013 National Fitness Project 100. They conducted a 20m round trip run. Difference verification and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis for those results were performed between the normal group and the obese group. Gender and age were required for the prevention of obesity in Korea middle school students, depending on the outcome, given the minimum aerobic fitness criterion by body fat percent, skinfolds, and waist size to analyze the validity and effectiveness of aerobic fitness for a set of standards.
