        Successful Device Closure of a Large Rupture of Sinus of Valsalva in a Patient With Bicuspid Aortic Valve

        Sinus of Valsalva aneurysm is a rare entity and can be congenital or acquired. The disease can progress silently until the aneurysm ruptures, finally causing symptoms. Once ruptured, if such an aneurysm is not treated timely, the patient will progress to left heart failure. We discuss a 61-year-old male who presented with increasing dyspnea over 2 months. He underwent uncommon, less invasive interventional treatment and made a full recovery in a brief period. His condition of combined rupture of the sinus of Valsalva and bicuspid aortic valve was very rare.

      • Anti-inflammatory Asterosaponins from the Starfish <i>Astropecten monacanthus</i>

        <P>Four new asterosaponins, astrosteriosides A–D (<B>1</B>–<B>3</B> and <B>5</B>), and two known compounds, psilasteroside (<B>4</B>) and marthasteroside B (<B>6</B>), were isolated from the MeOH extract of the edible Vietnamese starfish <I>Astropecten monacanthus</I>. Their structures were elucidated by chemical and spectroscopic methods including FTICRMS and 1D and 2D NMR experiments. The effects of the extracts and isolated compounds on pro-inflammatory cytokines were evaluated by measuring the production of IL-12 p40, IL-6, and TNF-α in LPS-stimulated bone marrow-derived dendritic cells. Compounds <B>1</B>, <B>5</B>, and <B>6</B> exhibited potent anti-inflammatory activity comparable to that of the positive control. Further studies are required to confirm efficacy <I>in vivo</I> and the mechanism of effects.         One-Pot Preparation of Antibacterial Electrospun Polycaprolactone Membrane Embedded with Gamma Irradiation-Induced Silver Nanoparticles

        In this study, we proposed a straightforward electrospun polycaprolactone (PCL) loaded with silver nanoparticles (SNPs)membrane fabrication process, in which SNPs were directly synthesized from silver nitrate (AgNO3) in PCL–acetone mixtureby gamma irradiation. The insolubility of AgNO3in PCL solution was solved using an auxiliary dimethyl sulfoxide solvent. As a physical approach, gamma rays readily converted silver ions into SNPs without the addition of harmful reductionagents, which reduced the cytotoxicity of the synthesized material. By avoiding some processes such as purification, solventremoval, or redispersion of SNPs, this method was more time-saving compared to other related studies. SNPs formation wasconfirmed by both UV–Visible spectrum (UV–Vis) and X-ray diffraction analysis. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM)revealed that the addition of SNPs significantly reduced the fiber diameter of PCL–Ag membranes compared to that of rawPCL. Uniform spherical-shaped SNPs incorporated in PCL fibers were observed under transmission electron microscopy(TEM). The tensile test showed that the electrospun PCL–Ag membranes exhibited good mechanical characteristics. Moistureeasily penetrated the porous microstructure of PCL–Ag, facilitating wound humidity regulation. Inductively coupledplasma-mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS) was employed to study the release profiles of SNPs at different time intervals. Overall,the PCL–Ag 500 ppm sample exerted excellent antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcusaureus strains and low in vitro cytotoxicity.

        Quantitative Trait Loci Associated with Heat Tolerance in Rice (Oryza sativa L.)

        A total of 310 BC2F2 lines derived from the cross of OM5930/N22 were evaluated for heat stress at flowering. Genetic map was set up with 264 polymorphic SSRs to detect linkage to the target traits. The map covers 2,741.63 cM with an average interval of 10.55 cM between two marker loci. Markers associated with heat tolerance were located mostly on chromosomes 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 11. The proportion of phenotypic variation explained by each QTL ranged from 17.1% for RM160 to 36.2% for RM3586. Four QTLs were detected for filled grains per panicle on chromosome 4 at the interval of RM468 - RM7076 and RM241 - RM26212, explaining 13.1 and 31.0% of the total phenotypic variation, respectively. Two QTLs controling unfilled grain percentage was also detected at loci RM554 and RM3686 on chromosome 3 explaining 25.0 and 11.2% of the total phenotypic variance. One QTL was detected for 1,000-grain weight located at the locus RM103 on chromosome 6, explaining 30.6% of the total phenotypic variance. Also, a QTL at the locus RM5749 on chromosome 4 was identified which explained 10.8% of the total phenotypic variance of grain yield. A single QTL at the interval of RM3586- RM160 on chromosome 3 was detected in conformity with the QTL findings for heat tolerance in previous studies.

      • The Influence of Tourism Motivation to Foreign Fourist's Intention to Engage in Vietnam Ecotourism

        Objective - The goal of this paper aims to investigate and uncover variables that influence foreign tourist's intention to engage Vietnam ecotourism based on Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and post - material assumption. A conceptual model incorporates environmental beliefs, attitudes toward eco-tourism, behavioral indications, in combination with materialism and general tourism motivation. Design/methodology/approach - In this study, the online survey was conducted using. This study tests the hypotheses by surveying Taiwanese potential ecotourists. The statistical analysis method conduct-ed in this paper is Factor analysis using SPSS 20.0 version software. Findings - Results indicate that "personal seeking" - type of tourism motivation influencing foreign tourist's intention to engage in Vi-etnam ecotourism. Research Limitations - the sample was limited in Taiwanese and sample size may not represent the population of potential ecotourists. Implications - People become more and more concerned about environment, so that the ecotourism industry will continue to grow. We hope that the finding would provide a basic for understanding ecotourism in Vietnam for strategies to enhance envi-ronmental attitudes, beliefs, and ecotourism intention and behavior. The results suggest that ecotour-ism marketers should aim actively to increase consumers's pro-environmental beliefs. These efforts likely create favorable attitudes toward sustainable tourism in the long run in Vietnam as well as the strategies targeting approach across cultures, especially for segmentation variables such as tourism mo-tivation.

        Diuretic efficacy and prophylactic effects of hydroethanolic extract from Musa balbisiana fruits against urolithiasis

        The use of herbs as prophylactic and prevent recurrence of urolithiasis was counseled. Musa balbisiana fruits have long been used folk in the treatment of urinary stones. However, there is no clear scientific evidence. This study was designed to investigate the diuretic and prophylactic effects of M. balbisiana fruit extract in ethylene glycol-induced urolithiasis in rats. In this study, crude extracts were extracted by maceration, hot extraction, and decoction methods. The extracts were examined in vitro biological activities of anti-urolithiatic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties. For in vivo study, the experimental groups of rats were given the extract for 7-day to evaluate the diuretic potential. In prophylactic activity against urolithiasis, rats were given the extract for 28-day on ethylene glycol-induced urolithiasis in male Wistar rats. The results showed that all extracts of M. balbisiana fruits exhibited in vitro anti-urolithiatic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant activities with the hydroethanolic extract by hot extraction presented the highest activities. The hydroethanolic extract at the doses of 0.8 and 1.6 g/kg had diuretic effect after 7-day of treatment. The extract at these two doses had significantly prophylactic activity restored the parameters in urine and serum to near-normal level. The histopathological examinations revealed that calcium oxalate crystal deposits in the renal tubules and congestion and dilation of the renal tubules were significantly reverted after the extract treatment for 28-day. Taken together, the hydroethanolic extract of M. balbisiana fruits had diuretic effect and reduced the growth of urinary stones showing its effect as an antiurolithiatic support agent.

        Antimicrobial Activity of Phenolic-Rich Extracts from Mango Seed Kernel on Microorganisms

        Replacing synthetic additives to preserve food products with natural antimicrobial compounds needs to be considered due to public health. In the present study, the phenolic extract from mango seed kernel (MSK) with the total phenolic content (TPC) value of 5300 ± 380 mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/L was used for evaluating the antimicrobial properties against five types of bacterial strains, including Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Salmonella typhimurium in vitro. This extract was also used for in situ method on the storage of Pangasianodon hypophthalmus fish fillets. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values for all tested strains were determined at an average concentration of 1325 mg GAE/L. Furthermore, the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values of E. coli, S. aureus, and S. typhimurium were seen at 5300 mg GAE/L, while the extract did not show eliminations in the growth of the remaining strains. The bacterial inhibition speed of the extract illustrated that the concentration equal MIC value eliminated S. typhimurium growth after 24 h, the 4 times MIC value had remarkable effects on S. aureus growth after the 9 h of incubation, and 24 h of incubation for E. coli, L. monocytogenes, P. aeruginosa. Additionally, the MSK extract could inhibit the growth of P. aeruginosa on fish fillets in 4 days of storage. These results provide important evidence for the utilization of MSK as a natural source of antimicrobial agents in food products.

        Bioinformatic identification and expression analysis of the chicken B cell lymphoma (BCL) gene

        Background B cell lymphoma (BCL) families play an important role in apoptosis as a growth factor, cell death programming, cytokine expression and immune-related genes expression. Objectives In this study, to investigate the roles of BCLs, we performed genome-wide identification, expression and functional analyses of the BCL family in chicken. Methods Chicken BCLs genes were identified and analyzed by using bioinformatics approach. Expression profiles and Hierarchical cluster analysis of the BCLs genes in different chicken tissues were obtained from the genome-wide RNA-seq in the GEO, and Cluster and Java Treeview, respectively. Results A total of 16 BCLs genes were identified from the chicken genome, which could be further classified into five distinct groups in the phylogenetic tree. On the other hand, the interaction among BCLs proteins and between BCLs proteins with NF-κB subunits are limited, indicating that the remaining the functions of BCLs protein could be investigated in chicken. Moreover, KEGG pathway analysis indicated that BCL gene family was involved in regulation of apoptotic and immune response. Finally, BCL gene family was differentially expressed in chicken tissues, pathogen infection and growth stages of early chicken early embryo. Conclusion This study provides significant insights into the potential functions of BCLs in chicken, including the regulation of apoptosis, cell death and expression of immune-related genes.
